Now I understand what Luis meant, and why this seemed to work so nicely: Actually OG
deletes any and all units over 400
when you play the scenario!
Meaning they show just fine in the scenario, but when you play it, they're gone (right from the start)!...
I guess I'll have to avoid XXL maps -- The one I'm currently using has 204 enemy-owned hexes, among which a dozen VHs which would warrant some better protection, at least an additional artillery and an AA unit. That's around 250 static, harmless units just to prevent the player ripping through the map as fast as his troops will go, leaving me with only 150 AI units to slightly bother a (by now, scenario #8) over 90 units strong elite tank force... Clearly impossible.
Luis, please change the message of OpenSuite to clearly state that any unit over 400 will be deleted. Right now it only says "Player 2 has 413/400 units, won't buy new units in the game", which is just a very minor issue given it will start buying once the surplus has been culled.

Well, increasing the number of units allowed would be pretty easy to implement: editing a couple of lines and recompiling the OG.
But, that would break the agreement to keep OG stable: no new features/options, only changes to eventually fix critical bugs.
Luis, please change the message of OpenSuite to clearly state that any unit over 400 will be deleted. Right now it only says "Player 2 has 413/400 units, won't buy new units in the game", which is just a very minor issue given it will start buying once the surplus has been culled.

I'll change the Suite to warn clearly, that exceeding units will be removed when starting the game.

Yes, this would be a new feature - making as a new option is absolutely discarded - so it would break the agreement.
Anyway maybe you could solve the problem (when using big maps) by setting many towns with only flag (no owner) or without giving prestige, and then concentrate those 400 AI units in certain stronger positions instead of setting many weak garrison units which are anyway easy to destroy for an experienced task force advancing

Yes, you're right, but this isn't really applicable in all scenarios: Often the bulk of enemy units is spent in reinforcements. Of course I can try to give the AI lots of prestige to buy stuff, but those units will arrive piecemeal, much easier to defend against than an occasional massive attack of 8-10 units. Also the AI doesn't always reliably buy reinforcements, despite having lots of prestige (>1000p!), I never understood why.
Oh well.

I had an idee. If I remember right, it is that each player could have 400 units. If you take the player 4 , you could use it for the immobile garrisons, bunkers etc. The succession is Player 1, Player 2, Player 3(not used) and then Player 4. So you could have 400 + 400 units for the A.I.
I don't know, if this will work?

No, if you set 4 players, each player can have only 200 units. 800 units total is the real limit.

Too bad, just when I thought there might be a loophole...
I'd love to use big maps, after all I spent 2 years completely redoing my Equipment File to adapt it to bigger maps.

I've "improved" my existing Blitzkrieg British Invasion scenario (map #50001) to 550 (AI) vs. 200+core (player), I'm play testing it right now and it runs just fine so far, but then again that's just 150 AI units over the old normal.
I plan to add some more XXL scenarios later in the campaign, and for those I'd
really like to reach the 800 unit limit!...
Problem is the latest Open Suite simply refuses to buy more than the old number of units, and you can only go so far with copy/pasting/editing units.

That's great ... but which release of Suite are you using ?
Latest Suite 5.0.73.8 released 01/01/2024 should allow you to raise up to 800 units per player if 2 players ( 1600 units total)

Small bug (probably): Apparently scenarios built/edited with 5.0.73.8
don't display the scenario title in the campaign editor anymore.
In other words:
Scenarios edited with 5.0.73.7 and earlier = The scenario list in the campaign editor displays scenario titles and dates.
Scenarios edited with 5.0.73.8 = The scenario list in the campaign editor only displays the scenario date (that's why I know it
did recognize the scenario). It still does display the title for scenarios made with older Open Suite versions though, so apparently it's the way Open Suite stores the scenario title which has changed.

Slight inconsistency.
I want to load a map image --> Scenario - Map View specific Options - Load Picture file (png, jpg, bmp, or gif)
A window opens where I can only load a png map --> I can only select a png/bmp file from the drop-down list.
JPG files cannot be selected!
There's a workaround, of course... but...

Yes, of course if you replace ".png" with ".jpg" you can load a .jpg file, but yes, you are right, and I'll fix to be easier.

No, Suite doesn't download automatically missing maps when opening a scenario or save game, you need to use the "Check files" View (the initial view) to check missing maps in the campaigns or scenarios belonging to the efile selected, and download any.

I neither understand ... in fact I never get that message

I checked my config and I have enabled internet connection, that is anticked: "Disable connection internet"
I checked ticked and anticked and never get that message.
I'll check the code to find where is launched that pop up

Because it is trying to download maps from deprecated servers ...
I've checked the code and Suite needs a kind of overhaul regarding missing maps to work using same servers than OG and same routines.
And probably it needs also to update a few routines checking missing files too.
Btw, I yet don't understand how you can see the pop-up message just loading the Suite, I had to click on any button checking something to raise it.

This pop-up window doesn't appear every time.
I think it's related to scenarios/campaigns that were created for PG2 (they were based on .scn and .cam files). Although they were later converted to xscn files, this was in the old days --> currently converted campaigns, they no longer have this after conversion.
Additionally, the message I showed also appears in the game for a very short time (for campaigns converted from .cam and .scn files a long time ago).

This happens both in the Suite and in the game when loading the map (currently, after minor corrections and editing the H01 campaign - which is shown in the video --> in the new version of the Suite --> everything is fine in the game and in the Suite).

I think the reason for these issues is that open-general.com server is checked before the .pl one and since the las break down it is never reached returning a 301 HTTP error code, which is surely due to the internal mapping of the folder where the maps are actually allocated.

The og_repos file - was supposed to set the order --> it should be read first --> the pl server is entered there first...

Yes, servers are checked according to that list, but OG (and Suite in the next version) tries to access all the servers in the list first to set up the definitive list of available servers it will use to try to download any missing file required.

No server malfunctioning ... it was my fault
Luckily, Kowdar saved my day !!!
I forgot that open-general.com is using HTTPS instead of HTTP and I had a flag to avoid redirecting when trying to access maps in OG server
And that is also the reason that OG does not download maps lately
As soon as I tested OG and Suite DL mechanics, I'll release the fixed versions.

I am working out to fix an issue found out by Jaro.
When a unit is set to follow another one with a higher global unit number, and you remove one or more units with lower global unit number than the leading (kind of dynamic objective) unit, the link is broken between the follower units and the leading one.
I think I've found out the reason, and I am currently testing the several possible combinations to be sure the issue is fixed.

This is for modern campaigns.
In modern times, the period from prototype development to entry into service is often a dozen or so years.
For example: 'AH-64A Apache', prototype 1975, production began 1982, entry into service 1986.

Where can I find that updated Open Suite?

It is not included in the Core files, and on Luis' "tools" page I only see the download for the previous (September) Open Suite.
I won't download the whole full installer just to get Open Suite...

I always pass defender to my development folders before compiling, and then again before committing to the SVN repo.
Anyway, I've checked again and my MS_Defender didn't find any

Suggestion: Wouldn't it be an idea to include it with the Core update files, since now you always update OpenGen and Suite together?
As about the virus alert, it's clearly a false positive. I sent Open Suite through
VirusTotal and the result is telling: While Microsoft flags it indeed as "Wacatac.B!ml", the 71 other antivirus solutions (among them way more serious ones) don't find anything to complain about...
Problem is, everybody on Windows has MS Defender, and this alert will most likely worry less computer-savvy users.

- Suite doesn't consider attachments (recon) and leaders when displaying spotted hexes
- Is it possible to check all spotted hexes by all AI units?
Suite also doesn't consider attachments when display unit range - movement (maybe Leaders as well).
And maybe fire range as well (leaders)

Yes: With the "spotting" checkbox checked,
deselect any unit (click on empty terrain), and you will get spotting range for both sides, red for AI, black for player.

I've checked this and the reason is that Suite doesn't load the effective (efile, cam or scen) config files as OG does, and thus cannot consider attachments and other settings based on config files.
Leaders are used though, at least to increase the unit's spot; later on, I'll check movement and range of fire.
Anyway, adding config files management in Suite, is a very time-consuming work, and I'd say we can still live without that for a time, while I'm focused on the AI thing, isn't?

If you all want to consider attachments with default bonus/malus, that would be easier, but I think is better keep as it is now.
Regarding range of fire, only movement, only MARKSMAN is checked now, and so I am adding LEADER_BATTLESHIP, LEADER_BCRUISER and LEADER_CUISER

Yes, I'd vote "not very important" indeed. Once you know it, it's easy to extrapolate while placing units. I for one am used to it...
There are more annoying quirks in Open Suite, IMHO at least, like the fact every time you buy a unit you immediately land on the deployment menu - I buy with pauses because of AI settings, i.e. I buy a specific unit type (for instance one infantry unit supposed to guard a hex), quit the purchase menu, set its behavior (aggressive/defensive, anchored, turn it appears at, etc.), duplicate it with copy/paste to get the number of similar units I'll need (like the dozens of infantry units I'll need to protect the important hexes), then buy another type of unit (let's say an artillery unit), configure and duplicate that, and only in the end I deploy everybody, and change/adapt individual units as required... Spares me having to enter manually a hundred identical unit settings (Default AI setting is for AI purchased units, and thus always on "aggressive").
(Not a request to change, just saying. I assume everybody has his own work flow and thus his own pet peeves)

Luis, sure there are more important things than adding config files to suite to have a proper visibility range.
