Nah, no additional options needed. I just asked to make sure i didn't overlook something. In the given scenario the AI has around 180 units and 20 of them are aggressive. Now i would like to give all defensive units some entrenchment, but the aggressive units would not need any entrenchment.
(I could give entrenchment to all units of course, but i don't want give entrenchment to the aggressive units because the more entrenchment a units has, the less it is likely it will move, me thinks

So i will give it to all and remove for the aggressive units manually)
Anyway, no problemo

actually, if that filter can be added, that would be useful to check / verify whether the desidgner made everything correctly. of course,
IF Luis can do it easily, it's not that important to waste Luis' precious time

Finally, I found a place to add a new combobox, so the "stance" filter is added to OpenSuite ver 5.0.72.17, already available at my site.
This version also includes:
- New option to clear hexes giving prestige, in menu option: Scenario/Savegame | Mapview specific options | Global changes to map data"
- When exporting a map to PG2 .map format, only the names included in the exported area will be added to the .txt file

Hello Luis, is it possible to show in the suite whether a unit is assigned a UNITPEDIA record (pic and text)? That would be very helpful to identify the units that do not yet have an UNITPEDIA record.

Finally it was not possible to add as new sort entry
But I understand that the only use for it is to check for missing pedia related files, so I've added as a new report instead:
Report for .jpg and/or .txt missing pedia files
which checks the pedia files for the items filtered in Equipment View.

Hi Luis, thank you very much for the quick response.

The solution is perfectly adequate. However, the report sometimes does not work and ALL units are evaluate without a UnitPedia entry, although some units have an entry.
And the values in summary "x items checked .. y equip items missing some pedia file / s" are not correct either.

Does it look like this? Then you simply have to untick the PG mode.

The suite stopped working, it won't open, so I installed the latest version and it still won't launch.
I haven't changed anything on the computer and am still running Windows 10.
Anyone had this problem before?

There are still two annoying (and IIRC old)
refresh bugs with tiled maps in the "Map Editor View":
Create a new scenario, chose "tiled maps", keep the suggested size (60x71).
Go to the "Map Settings" view and, as expected, you'll see a nice map all covered with "clear" hexes. So far, so good.
Now imagine you actually wanted an all-water map (all "Ocean").
I switch to the "Map Editor View", and surprise: Here my new map is invisible (just gray background)! I have to switch the view to "Strategic View", and back to "Real size", to finally see my map.
Note that if you go directly to the "Map Editor View", without stopping at the "Map Settings" view first, the map does
not appear, whatever you do. You need to stop at the "Map Settings" view first. But that's not all.
As I said, I want to turn all those "Clear" hexes to "Ocean", so I fire up the "MAPX Editor" menu, chose "Global Changes to Map Data", and change all 13310 "Clear" hexes to "Ocean". The "Map Globals" window acknowledges this change, but what I
see (in the "Map Editor View") is still green "Clear" hexes...
This time even the "Strategic View"/"Real size" trick does
not cause it to refresh: I first have to switch to the "Map Settings" view and back for the strategic/real switch to work (or do that switch in the "Map Settings" view).
So,
to resume, the "Map Editor View" doesn't refresh after global changes if you don't stop at the "Map Settings" view first, and even then it requires some help (switching between strategic and real view for instance).
All right, it's no show-stopper if you know about it, but it will be utterly confusing for people not knowing it and trying to create a tiled map... I was wondering myself for a minute or two what I had done wrong, fortunately I have made enough tiled maps to remember tiled maps don't always refresh correctly.
(BTW this thread's title isn't up to date, I don't have a DeLorean, and yet my Suite pretends to be
5.0.73.3 (July 22).)

We can easily upload a 71x60 hex all ocean pictured map if you need one.
Unless you want to use tiled maps for that scenario/campaign.

Thanks but an all-water map already exists, #112. It was just that there is no real need to use a picture for something as featureless as a stretch of ocean, and that scenario was just about testing an idea anyway.
Anyway the OpenSuite issue does exist, this was just how I (re)discovered it.

This issue was raised a few years back...
Tile maps in their idea allow us to play when we do not have a picture, but only the .mapx itself.
So what is the problem? --> making mapx in a tiled environment - defeats the purpose --> you should make mapx using the normal method (for example, using a background with the size of the future map for an image) --> it has to do with how the OG engine builds a tiled map -- > changing one hex will examine all neighboring hexes and replace them if necessary --> but most importantly --> changing one hex will change the whole picture (recalculate all hexes!) --> so you need a very, very strong and very, very fast processor --> the bigger the map - more time is needed --> the process may be unstable

No, for me the point of using tiled maps is to draw the map on the fly: Not so pretty, but faster and perfectly adapted to very specific needs. Else I use the maps you guys have made, I've downloaded almost the whole Gilestiel map archive to be able to chose locally... (Big thanks to all you map makers BTW!)

That's okay, I'm not on my old, nay, ancient WinXP computer anymore, now I'm using an Alder Lake-H i7-12700H with 32 GB of RAM and a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti (8 GB), that should be beefy enough for OpenGeneral...

refresh bugs with tiled maps in the "Map Editor View":
Create a new scenario, chose "tiled maps", keep the suggested size (60x71).
Go to the "Map Settings" view and, as expected, you'll see a nice map all covered with "clear" hexes. So far, so good.

I switch to the "Map Editor View", and surprise: Here my new map is invisible (just gray background)! I have to switch the view to "Strategic View", and back to "Real size", to finally see my map.
Note that if you go directly to the "Map Editor View", without stopping at the "Map Settings" view first, the map does
not appear, whatever you do. You need to stop at the "Map Settings" view first. But that's not all.
What you see as a "refresh bug" is nothing else than the fact that Suite allows you to work both with the scenario map and also with a different mapx file.
When you are in scenario map (Map View) and click the "MapEditor"
button the scenario map is linked to be edited with the MapX Editor but if you go to MapEditor view using the toolbar icon directly, the Suite doesn't "copy" the scenario map into the mapx editor, so you don't see anything.
That is, you can load the map embedded into the scenario file in the MapView while you load a different mapx file into MapX editor,
or you can edit the scenario map both in MapView and mapX editor, if you use the MapEditor button from MapView
Be aware that the scenario map is not load (either from png or tiled) until you do not enter the MapView.
So, to resume, the "Map Editor View" doesn't refresh after global changes if you don't stop at the "Map Settings" view first, and even then it requires some help (switching between strategic and real view for instance).
You are right, to force a redraw can need to switch to an other view and then go back to MapView
I'll try to fix sometime before you disappear again, but my time is lately really limited.
(BTW this thread's title isn't up to date, I don't have a DeLorean, and yet my Suite pretends to be
5.0.73.3 (July 22).)

I see, that's fiendishly clever, but admit it's nearly impossible to guess, besides that doesn't explain why it doesn't refresh when you use the "Global Changes to Map Data" feature... Or does it?
Anyway, as I wrote this isn't a show-stopper, just an annoying "what did(n't) happen?" moment. Fix if/when you got the time.

Thanks again for OpenSuite 5.0.73.4, but I have spotted another bug...
When you open a savegame, go to the Map View and check "UnitRange" to display range circles, AI unit ranges are all displayed one hex larger than they should.
Exception, if the AI unit has a leader, it displays the right range circle. Seems range is processed differently when the unit has a leader, maybe due to the existence of range-modifying leaders?
This only happens on AI player units, and only when opening savegames. Player units display their ranges as expected, and while editing scenarios both players are fine.
How to reproduce: Open any savegame, go to "Map Settings View", select any AI unit, check "UnitRange" to display the red "range" circle. Compare the red circle's radius with the unit's actual range.
Best visible on infantry, which usually has a range of 1...

I've tested with different efiles and savegames and I cannot replicate what "I understand" you say
I understand that you mean the "range of movement" but maybe I didn't got well as you say that infantry usually has a range 1
Could you post a screenshot to enlight me ?

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough... I meant "range of fire"!...
BTW, ranges (of fire!) are displayed OK for a third player, if he exists (at least when he is allied to the human player).

Whether there is a leader or not --> the red circle(range of fire AI unit) is 1 hex and is correct

BTW, why do your savegames have a "scenarioname

I see.
Well, since you're using the same versions as me (except Windows) the plot thickens: So it's clearly a Heisenbug, probably only happening because of something in that specific scenario.
I'll have to check when I have a little more time to fire up the Windows computer and do some more research.

Okay, I'm leaving for the train station now, but I had the time to check an ancient savegame (fortunately I'm keeping all old playthrough savegames), and indeed, the ranges (fire!) show in old savegames as they should.
It might be due to those scenarios being
made with older versions of Open Suite? Just a wild guess, it needs some more testing I haven't the time for today.
What I know at this point is: Scenario made/edited recently by Open Suite v.5.0.73.4 (7-Feb-2023): Ranges (fire!) +1, while scenario made back in the time: Ranges (fire!) are right.
To Do: Edit an old scenario, play, save, and check if the ranges are still displayed right. The Equipment file has also been (extensively) edited with the new Open Suite since that old savegame too, so I need to also check
old Equipment file + new scenario and
new Equipment file + old scenario.

I checked, and actually it doesn't happen, except once, during the playthrough of that campaign: While playing scenario #3 (last September), it somehow happened, and since then
the problem inherits to all following scenarios (I'm playing #18 now...).
Here is a ZIP with the start save of scenario #3 (everything still OK), and the last save, just before I step on the last VH, at the end of that scenario. There is still one enemy unit left, on the lower right, and it has the wrong range... Note the scenario is meant for the new version of my E-File but should work with the old one, so just copy them into \OpenGen\EFILE_NOKORP\SAVES and open with Open Suite.
I have no idea what happened between the "HQ" save and the "turn 15" one... All I know is that whatever happened, is inherited since from scenario to scenario, for the whole campaign.

How can I make a new, blank dat file? I use the icontools to remove old items from an existing openicons.dat then refill it with the new icons but that method is time-consuming at best... Is there any other way?

Put all png icons on a folder, then run IconsTool, click DatTool icon (2nd from the left) and use 5th icon from toolbar: "Repack to ·Repack to new Dat file"

You can report how many times the units defined in all scenarios (from a .xcam or *.xscn in a folder) are used,
... but there is no option to report all scenarios using a given efile's item

OpenSuite updated to 5.0.73.6
* Added option to report all scenarios using the selected item in menu: Equipment | Unit's usage tool | Report scenarios using selected item
So, must go to Equipment View, select the item you want to check, and use the new option, A log file will be created with all scenarios using that item.
I've done rather quick, so maybe there is room to improve it...

(Right now when you try to buy your 401th unit, the purchase button is greyed (actually yellowed) out, and doesn't work anymore.)
Yes, I know, I know, but by now we're well past the tiny 2k original PG maps, and an "XXL" ("50000" series) map does require that amount of units to be properly covered -- not to mention reinforces...
IMHO the (already existing) warning when saving the scenario should be enough to tell the creator that there are caveats at >400 units. Preventing him from buying is sort of heavy-handed, forcing him to copy/paste & edit units to be able to put everything where it should be.

I think what you are really asking is to increase the number of units allowed in OG. Allowing to increase the units to one player in detriment of the other players is a bad idea IMHO.

No, not at all!
For me it is just fine like it is now, I have several scenarios where I have given the AI player more than 400 units, and those scenarios work just fine.
My problem is just that
setting up those >400 units is tedious, since OpenSuite
doesn't allow me to buy more once I have hit the 400 units limit. So I have to add more by cheating, which is slightly annoying. The resulting scenario works though, so is it please possible to remove that OpenSuite buying block, it isn't very useful after all: There is a warning about those >400 units when you save the scenario anyway, that should be enough for any scenario creator to know he's treading on thin ice.
That been said -- would it be a lot of work to increase the overall unit limit from 400+400 to (let's say) 500+500? Just a honest question! 800 isn't a variable length I'm familiar with, so I guess these must be dimensions of arrays inside OG and whatnot.
One thing is for sure, all my scenarios with over 400 units work just fine, even on my old XP computer, OG can handle them just fine.

Guys, guys! Please read what I write...
Those >400 units are
for the AI player, so 1.) all towns on the huge map (XXL maps!) you try to conquer are defended (even if just by one infantry unit), and 2.) the AI player can counterattack a couple times, else the scenario is just a tedious, boring long walk across the map collecting towns and VHs.
I
never intended the human player to have that many units!
And even for the AI player, around 300 of those units are always inert, tied down ("anchored") defending towns and Victory Hexes, or they are future reinforcements not yet active. The AI units which actually move in a given turn are
never more than a couple dozen, way under 100 anyway...
The issue at hand is that the human player is cunning and the AI is predictable and dumb, so to add any kind of difficulty you have to raise the enemy ratio, because 1 to 1 would be ridiculously easy. Especially in later scenarios when the player's units have become experienced.
Also, a defending AI needs to be spread all over the map, so even if the player only faces a couple enemy units at a time, there are hundreds he didn't reach yet, all over the map, waiting for him. Hundreds and even more if the map is huge... Q.E.D.
