1. Tulemajoki

The initial battle was like a walk in the park (no real fight due to good tactic). I went through frozen river and marched on its east bank towards enemy single VH. I saw Russian forces ran at opposite side of river directing south towards mine unguarded VH. Luckily I arrived first and after killing one arty and pushing defending infantry out of VH I took it in turn 6 (was rewarded with fighter prototype). I don't suppose the following battles will be similar to this.

2. Ilomantsi

It's not easy but interesting to explore unknown areas. I have never played this campaign before, and in addition CC archive doesn't contain single AAR for 17th chapter (I will try to fill this gap). That means I should expect surprises - and mistakes in army composition and battle plans are inevitable. :dunno

I wrote sentences above after lesson taken in the first failed attempt to pass this battle. I was surprised by sneaky attack from behind, as well as learned that my equipment is incomparable with Russians. In such circumstances I should go with quantity instead of quality trying to balance the obvious advantage of heavy Russian tanks and artillery. Here they arrived with 2 KV-1 and 2 R-5 152mm guns. :shock

In the second try I increased numbers of my units, buying cheaper equipment without transport or with horses. I was able to organize defensive positions in the western bank of river in the city, as well as blocking the bridges on the south (using faster units). My forces were under pressure several turns, repaired from time to time, but didn't allow Russians to breakthrough. After killing main attackers on the south :phew I could start counterattack towards last enemy VH on the southeast. Another several turns were needed to take it, so I missed BV by two rounds scoring regular Victory. :twink

3. Koirinoja

Small limited deployment scenario with only four units allowed. Speed was essential, as there are only 4 turns for BV and long distance to travel. I did nothing at HQ and deployed tank, recon and two motorized infantries. For my units BV was out of reach (I don't suppose it could be possible with available equipment). Objective was taken in turn 7 – regular Victory three turns above BV limit. No real fight here, just eliminating some low strength opponents, under enemy planes activity.

4. Kostomuksha

Before the battle purchased another bicycle recon and horses for mortars. Upgraded free arty to 122mm and all AT guns to slightly bigger model.
This battle on Nordwind map was definitely most difficult so far. First attempt was stopped early due to wrong plan. The second attempt went better. I advanced with my forces straight to the east, and when passed central area of the battlefield turned to the south, directing Russian VH. From that point fighting became more tense, with many armored units like T-35 or bunch of BT-7 tanks. When approaching enemy VH one of my AT guns was surprised when going in transport and killed. Couple of turns were needed to defeat Russian defenders and cut the way to VH, which was captured in the last moment for regular Victory.

5. Suvanto

Before the battle I sold one mortar, and upgraded tank to BT-7, three arties to 122mm and 2x 76,2mm K36, purchased 45mm AT and two 40mm AD with horse transport.

Now difficulty seems to increase from battle to battle. My first attempt failed – I soon learned that quick advance will be not a solution here.
In the second try I decided to play defensively, so prepared my positions on the perimeter of southern city (known as the first objective when playing Suomussalmi in Blitzkrieg). After many rounds of fighting against Russian attacking forces (mainly BT-7 tanks, BA-10 recons and infantries) I had impression that the worst passed, so I started my advance towards enemy VH on the north in two groups on both sides of central lake. During this advance enemy still found some opportunities to counterattack, slowing me down. Finally I reached the last VH area, but that was defended very well and there wasn't any chance to capture it even in TV limit. I will accept this loss and will go further (which is allowed in most of scenarios from the beginning). I lost two units (recon and infantry), but I don't want to replay it for better results, which is doubtful, and I'd rather keep my new leaders for 2 infantry units. By the way, I'm disappointed by my air force performance against Russian I-16 or even I-153 fighters – it is very poor.

6. Lieksa

Before the battle I sold one AD, purchased another BT-7 tank and new infantry to replace lost unit, upgraded weak fighter.

This war becomes more and more difficult with each battle. The Loss may be common result in this CC, at least till it doesn't lead to campaign loss. I was able to take two of three objectives here (southern and south eastern) – the northeastern left in enemy hands. I'm afraid of pushing too hard with such inferior equipment, as it leads to heavy casualties. Long range artillery can stop every advance. At least another 2 leaders arrived.
It's really annoying, when you need to fight with 12/12 or 13/13 Russian fighters – you cannot finish them to 0 in one turn, so they return at full strength couple of rounds later attacking your weakened planes, which couldn't be repaired due to limited resources.

As I said before, without reference point (that means other players AARs) I don't know if my results here are below expectation or pretty common. I will not replay battles ended with Loss until it is necessary to reach another step in CC.

7. Vuoksi

Before the battle I sold one AT gun and upgraded two R-3 122mm arties to R-5 105mm.
The losing streak continues. :thud
Very long battle with slow advance due to mountains. I tried to stay in mountain terrain longest possible - to avoid early spotting by enemy. 35 turns for TV looked achievable, so I planed to leave rough terrain's cover just before final attack on Russian VH on the east. Plan worked well and I arrived on VH perimeter with about 7-8 turns in spare for TV, but soon occurred that it was not enough for heavily defended objective. :banghead After making backup savegame I tried to capture it several times with slightly modified approach, but every time I took significant losses and didn't succeed at all. Finally I decided to fight carefully to the end, but avoided desperate attack and got another Loss.
During the battle I lost young tank, but got three new leaders (2 on arties), so I didn't try to replay this scenario for better results

It does not look good.
Unfortunately, I do not remember the campaign and can not give good advice.
My general recommendations: Keep a good eye on army costs and cap, and try to use turn and map prestige to repair your units during the scenario. Losing experienced units is impossible to compensate and ends in a spiral of failures. In any case, you should always try to get the victory bonuses and not exceed the cap. Give full overstrength to free core units if possible.

Yes, I use a lot of prestige for repairs. I don't panic, as playing to the end (last turn TV or Loss) provides bigger amount of prestige and allows to train my units. That may be necessary in the future, when Loss will not be acceptable any more.

8. Juntusranta

Before the battle I purchased new tank and upgraded two 76mm arties to 105mm with trucks.

Finally easier battle for a change. Advance along the road from the western deployment area to the eastern VH. Limited deployment, but 18 slots just fit to my army. No airfields, so my fighters left undeployed. Good reinforcements – 2 fighters, 2 bombers and auxiliary German contingent, which appeared later not far from Russian VH.
Russian artillery placed on both sides of planned route was less dangerous than could be, due to many turns of rain at the beginning (limited spotting allowed to avoid bigger losses). Enemy planes ruled the sky – all 4 aux airplanes were grounded – but defensive lines around the objective were not tight. I was able to break them rather fast with Germans attacking them from the back. Only one green core infantry was lost during that final attack. So my second BV one turn before the limit, together with nice arty proto.

Result: BV (-1T)

9. Petsamo

Before the battle I purchased another tank (instead of lost infantry unit). Remaining prestige was spent on OS of two best arties and tank.

More complicated battle with four objectives to take. Interesting fighting all around the map. I formed two groups, as deployment hexes suggested. Left flank group directed central VH, and then westernmost objective. Right flank group directed closest objective on the east, and further went to the northern one. Fast tanks were moved in between groups several times when situation required. Finally I was able to win the battle in the sky, grounding three fighters and two bombers at cost of auxiliary G.50. All VHs were captured, the last northern one just single turn above BV limit. Another pack of leaders came.

10. Algajarvi

Before the battle I purchased additional AD gun, downgraded 150mm arty to 105mm, and spent all remaining prestige on overstrength of arties and leadered tank.

Big attack was announced in scenario introduction, so I took it seriously and formed defensive combo around the VH city, deciding to wait for enemy hordes. I was hoping that strong artillery contingent will be a key to success. Generally I was right, repealing attackers gradually, when my positions were never at risk. My 15 sp tank did great job, finishing softened enemies with use of jump and hide tactic (18 kills).
When attacking waves ended I directed my forces to northern objective, and later detached fast group with a task to take the eastern VH. I had no margin for mistake, as that furthest VH was captured in the last turn of TV limit.
Another two leaders arrived - my artillery combo looks promising now and gives me a hope that I may finish this campaign successfully, despite many difficulties encountered on the way. :ihope

11. Tornio

Before the battle I sold AD gun and spent all available prestige on overstrength of 2 arties, all tanks and some core infantries.

It's something wrong with this scenario, which supposed to be different from standard template and tricky. :huh Due to limited deployment I choose two foot infantries with leaders, as well as two best arties to defend my VH area. One cavalry to escort civilians from the west, recon with best tank and motorized infantry to support 2 civilians in the central route, and finally two remaining tanks to secure last civilians going along eastern shore. With this setup I have to play this battle three times to achieve any kind of victory. :no

The first attempt. I ran with escorted horse carts and truck towards airfield (as suggested into text). In the meantime VH defenders killed attacking group of four enemy units. All civilians safely reached airfield, and several enemy attackers were killed. There is information before each turn: “Win by taking any flag” - but there wasn't any flag to take. Turns limit passed and I lost. :doh
The second attempt. After lesson from previous try I withdrawn my defending units closer to VH, leaving the airfield undefended. I was hoping Russians will take its flag, so I can recapture it to fulfill winning condition. The plan didn't work, as enemy units weren't interested at all in that side flag, focusing on VH only. :doh
The final attempt. I decided to left civilians traveling on their own and directed escorting units against Russian units running in pursuit. I found out the only possibility is to kill all opponents on map. That plan finally worked well and I got BV in turn 4 when last Russian Cavalry died. :yes
From now the loss will be unacceptable in this campaign. :grim

This can happen in old campaigns that were designed for PG2. The message appears when one side has no VHs to capture. Then it will win by taking any flagged hex. No VH but any flagged hex!
In OG the victory condition "hold x VH" can be used when one side should not have any VHs but of course no old campaign got updated.

Unfortunately there was no enemy flags at all. Initially I thought that a trick with late appearing VH will be used (when enemy units reach a hidden VH, invisible for player), but it didn't happen. My attempt to give up for enemy my flagged airfield didn't work as well. Luckily the last described above option worked for me.
This problem, as you said, most likely may be caused by switching from PG2 to OG without proper conversion. Jan (Pzmaniac) has been one of most experienced players, play testers and campaign designers/converters at the time, so I don't believe he overlooked such mistake. :dunno

12. Hyrynsalmi

Before the battle I upgraded SFK to Pioneeri and spent all remaining prestige on overstrength.

The battle was serious and chaotic. My first two attempts failed, as plan of fast advance towards all three enemy VHs at the same time was wrong, due to difficult access to western objective behind the river, which couldn't be taken fast enough to avoid massive Russian counterattack.
Modified plan worked better. I captured quickly central and northern objectives, leaving the infamous western VH unattended. Instead I started defensive battle against two waves of attackers, coming from west and east. Only after defeating majority of enemies I detached several units with a task to take the last VH. They traveled southeast on both banks of the river and with strong support of 4 arties my Cavalry captured it just single turn before TV limit.

13. Liinahamari

Before the battle I upgraded some horse transports to trucks and spent all remaining prestige on overstrength.

The battle was very long due to difficult terrain. I advanced gradually in two groups, the first one (consisting best tank, 3 arties, 4 infantries and AD) along the shore directing western and northern enemy VH, and the second (consisting 2 tanks, 2 arties, recon, cavalry and all auxiliaries) going strait towards eastern VH across the mountains. The battle was rather intense due to many Russian units placed in unexpected locations around the map.
Both tanks of 2nd group got leaders on the way, which occurred to be less difficult than expected – my contingent arrived VH perimeter to fast and was surprised on the route by Russian reinforcements which appeared from nowhere, just before planned attack on enemy objective. I had to roll-back my action to save game made couple of turns before and replay with modified plan. This time I prepared defensive combo and was able to win the battle against newcomers first, before starting VH siege. It was captured several turns before BV limit.
The first group traveled slower, harassed all the time by I-16 fighters. I managed to kill two of them, at cost of auxiliary plane, but remaining four had busy time during whole scenario. After long travel and unexpectedly long siege I captured northern VH at the last moment to score BV. The main problem with enemy VH/SH are 120mm mortars which appear, usually in pairs, just when you are close to the objective. That makes infantry attacks less effective. Finally I won some reward – 150mm arty for the second time.

14. Raate

Before the battle I spent all prestige on overstrength.

In my first attempt I learned, that usual fast advance is not a good idea. Surprised by massive attack from northwest I decided to restart.
In the second try I advanced gradually, in steps, keeping defensive setup with good artillery coverage all the time. The closest enemy VH was taken straight on the way, then I formed three groups. Couple of auxiliary units supported by 2 arties moved fast along western edge of map, then prepared defensive combo on the line of three cities, trying to entrench deep and waiting for mentioned enemy attack. The second group of foot infantry, tank, recon and three arties directed east, with a task to capture southeastern VH. The rest attacked further to the north, taking central VH.
Generally battle wasn't very difficult, but careful advance is needed to repeal enemy counterattacks. However, with max. reinforced arties and tanks I never was in real danger – even strong KV-1 tanks with leader were overran easily. The last northeastern VH was taken one turn before the BV limit. Now it's time for a final episode of this campaign.
