I open the suite, go to scenario/savegame, new scenario.
The efile is the ATOMIC, i gave a name to scenario/
I did not wright the intro text yet.
Then i download the map and add it.
I choose Player 1 main country Germany and sup country Italy and for player 2 main country UK and sup Greece.
I left the options as it is (i ll change them later) and i set the date at 1/9/1943
And now i don't know how to choose units.

You need to open Units Setting View (gun icon on toolbar) or the Map Settings View (next icon to Units in toolbar), and then click the typical "Purchase" icon to pop up a form to select units to add.

I add some units and try to play but all the units move eveywhere with the same way, like a clear area, even to the sea.

When you do not select a mapx file when you start the scenario, then you have to load the mapx file later.
The mapx file contains all the information about terrain and roads etc.

Load scenario and go to Map Editor View and load 1472_rhodes.mapx

I did it but nothing changes. Maybe i need to make eveything from the begin?

No, it should work like this. I do this often when i change a map for a scenario (e.g. change to enlarged map) i have to load mapx file like this too.

Load the mapx file, save scenario and quit Suite. It must work

Ok i ll work on it now, i guess i will have a lot of questions.
But the basic question is: The enemy will be aggresive, so it can capture my flags, then my main army that arrives from far, will have to recapture theese. How i set theese flags so i don't loose?

Which victory condition you want to use?
Capture [number of] VH or Hold [number of] VH?

Both victory conditions are possible. With "hold VH" you may loose all VHs and recapture them later. The scenario will only end after the last turn.

With "capture VH" the enemy might capture all VHs and wins the scenario and the players loose. (Technically it is possible to add a hidden VH that is in possesion of the player and the AI can not capture it, but that is maybe not something you wanna do in your first scenario)

I prefer Hold. I want 4 VH and some flags to airports. For the moment i will not add air transport, so enemies and my army that will arrive to recapture the island will only have naval transport. I have to choose Naval transport or not?

In a standalone scenario (scenario that is not part of a campaign) you only have to set naval transport when you want the player to embark units at a port. I guess that is not neccessary in your scenario. So you don't have to set any naval, air, train, helo transport.

So you set 4 VH (for both players) at Map Settings view. Then you go to Scenario Summary View, like shown in the picture below.
Klick on [Victory Conditions] which is marked in purple color.

Tick [Control #VH] box and set the numbers you want. For example hold 4 VH for brilliant victory, 3 for victory and 2 for tactical victory.

Then set turns for each victory. It has to be the same because it is "hold number of VH victory condition".

I load your scenario Operation Sonnenblume and copy scenario options. I also make a choice so ports will not be supply. I think i am ready to start place units.

Question: Lighthouses are not in German-Italy army?

Lighthouses, radar bunkers and all sorts of fortifications and bunkers are in "all countries".
Go to buy screen and choose [all countries] on the right and fortification class on the left. There you will find the lighthouse:

OK my problem is that AI is not smart at all. He moves to captured VH and leaves 1 VH that has no guards. At other VH don't even try to attack.

Have you set the VHs for both sides?

Other frequent reasons why AI is not moving its units is:
- a unit has some entrenchment. AI don't want to give up a (good) entrenched position and loose entrenchment points.
- a unit has no or a bad transport. If AI units have a good (tracked) transport, they are more willing to move.

When a unit is deployed on the map you can embark them to planes using [embark]. Then choose transport from the list.
When building a scenario, this even works when the unit has, for example, a truck transport that is not able to use air transport.

Great, anyway for the moment prestige is not so important. I found the way way with turns and days, but i want some units that i deploy, to show up next day (like reinforcements)

After this i believe i can finaly play the entire scenario. Then i liked you to play this (and maybe and other users) and tell me my mistakes.
I also start to working intro, so the player to know what about is this battle, and some infos about enemy etc.

PS It is harder than i thought, but it is very interesting.

One more question:
How when i test the game can i see enemy movements? I wonder if there is a choice so i can see enemy but not enemy can see my units.
I thought to buy a temp unit with spot 200 but i am not sure if this will work.

The best is to put a radar bunker with 255 spotting in every corner of the map. You still can not see every mountain and wood hex, but there is no better option as far as i know.

First, you have to set an owner for every flagged hex, supply hex, victory hex. See picture 1.
In your scenario you won't get any prestige because all flags and VH are in your possession at the start of the scenario.
But you can set turn prestige. You can eiter set prestige manually for every turn or set a global prestige amount for all turns. This works the same for player 1 and player 2 (AI). See picture 2.

When units should appear as reinforcements in a later turn you can set this in map settings view or unit settings view. Just enter the turn number when the unit should appear. In map settings view you have to confirm with pressing TAB key. See pictures 3 and 4.

I make some progress ( i think).
I ll send you and if you have time and try it, i ll be gloud. I am sure that you will find 12389473 mistakes but it is my first try, so it is good to learn from a great designer as you.
I sure need to add more air units but i can't wait to say me how this is loook.

Got the scenario. I will play it tomorrow

Okay, i already played some turns. here is the situation after the 7th turn.

In the northwest my torpedo boats crashed into the enemy submarines and i triy to navigate the naval transports around the submarines. I plan to land at the northwestern coast.

In the very south my para recon and a aux units recaptured the airfield VH. In the west the paras also recaptured the VH while the rest of the paras is on their way to the east.

In the north i am about to loose Rhodes city. The enemy battleships are powerful and i had to evacuate some units a little to the east, so i might save them.
My destroyers were able to damage a lot of enemy naval transports though.
Now my own ships arrived and i will try to sink the enemy battleship with the submarine.
My fighters got shot down and the bomber is damaged.

In the east my position is bad and i don't know how long i can defend against the enemy.

I did it a little better than you, because i read the message to wach out enemy subs

I find out that if you edit the scenario (e.g. i added more reinforcements) you need to play from the begin. That is a little annoying. Anyway, i continue and i believe (for the moment) that i have no more questions. Thanks again!!! I believe that with your screenshots will be a lot easy for new designers to start.

There was no message about submarines

Why i see and the intro and the turn messages? Is in differnet file?

Turn messages and intro text are in seperate files. You sent me the scenario file only. There should be more files named "Rhodes" in your scenario folder.
We can add your scenario to the efile, just the title and intro text have to follow the conventions. You can take a look at the other standalone scenarios to see how it looks. I can also create a intro picture

Before i continue playing this evening, just some general thoughts not only for this scenario:

- When all units in a scenario have the same experience i know the designer was lazy So it is nice to have some variety in experience.

- Add some leaders to each side.

- Add a base strength for enemy units, so they won't replenish to full strength after they had been damaged. (When AI has the prestige to do so).

- Don't deploy units in massive blocks. Have them dispersed a little bit. That looks much better and more "natural".

- Deploy enemy units disperesed, so they do not attack all from the same direction at the same time.

- In scenarios where the AI has no airfield, you can give some additional ammo to enemy planes.

- A good poetic scenario intro text is always welcome, but also tell the player what he has to do.

This was a good scenario and i enjoyed playing it very much
From the look of the scenario i would not know that it was your first one

You saw my positions in the previous screenshot. Now i continue: My navy sank the enemy ships in the north and then i disembarked all the naval transports along the western and northwestern coast.
The enemy managed to capture Lindos in the east in the 13th turn, but by that time the south, west and north were completely under my control and a large force of german reinforcements was on its way to Lindos. In the 17th turn i destroyed the last enemy ground units. I even was able to shot down the enemy fighters in the next turns with my MG units. So the final turns i just had to click away because the enemy had only the submarines left.
Two of my units gained leaders. I see in the after scenario report that gained exp is only marked for the reinforcements My best unit was the italian tank.

Some observations (additional to my previous post):

- 3 italian entrenched infantry have 0 experience.
- The Lindos VH is on the port hex and i could not refill my ships because of the entrenched infantry.
- The german ships/submarine in the southwest have only little impact on the scenario and you may delete them. Only the battleship would shell the enemy ground units and without it will just be a tiny bit harder.
- I guess you can cut the scenario by two turns.

I very much hope that you will continue your career as a Open General scenario designer

I have a lot of work more. Sure i will add various exp to units, some leaders and change enemy posistions.
I haven't play it to the end, from the file you have i already make 4-5 times changes. Imagine that every change i make, i have to play for about 1 hour.
For the moment i will not look to learn about pp.
Is there a chance to make enemy units to focus in one target? e.g. I want some enemy paratroopers to go and capture 1 airfield?
I believe tomorrow i can send to you (and everybody likes) the complete scenario.
PS About intro: It supposed that you don't know how big is the attack. So i have many messages in turns, that give infos to the player. As i said i believe tomorrow i will be ready.

You can add a objective hex (OH) for the paratroopers. They then will move to this hex.
You can enter hex coordinates or choose from the drop down menu.
You may or may not release them some hex away from the OH.

But make sure they do not crash (and get surprised) into the players planes that are deployed above the one airfield.

So i believe this scenario is 99% ready. I'd be gloud if you give one more try. I make a lot of changes, i gave o lot of time to the infos before turns to player.
I ll send you email all the files this time, and i hope and other players to ask to play this. I hope you like this and add it to your scenarios.

Would it be good to add Rhodes to the Weltkrieg campaign? As a bonus scenario after a tactical victory at Sidi Barrani?
Of course i had to change some things, so some core units can be deployed. Maybe limited deployment at the ocean, so the player has to use Navy and paratroopers. What do you think?

The campaign is yours and is your choice. As i said, it is honor for me that this scenario is in your e-file.
I had in mind, the elite troops of the commander, to be some of the core of your campaign. Also Bismark etc....

I am a little sad because all theese years i just play. Off course without your help i could not make anything.

It would be a good opportunity to make use of the Rhodes map in the Weltkrieg campaign. I don't remember if this is one of the maps that were requested by mythos but which he never used, like Mallorca. But i didn't use Rhodes myself yet. It would be nice to have it in the campaign. And it doesn't really matter if there will be 70 or 71 scenarios

I remember my self that Rhodes was in your Italian campaign that you finaly don't use. I was asking you where is Rhodes and you said me that it was at your plans but you never use it (if i remember well, respect to my age )

Yeah, you are right. I conisdered adding a Rhodes scenario to the Italian campaign, but i thought it would be not logical to fight the german allies after so many victorious scenarios and i had no better idea back then.
Maybe just Mallorca and Malta maps were requested by mythos and i made Rhodes for other reasons. I don't remember. Anyway, i am glad we have the maps

You have plans for more scenarios? campaign?

I always liked (as i remember said again) a great Soviet campaign, but in my mind is your mini campaign in Africa, with the same map. I have so good memories. This campaign with core units, could have 60 scenarios with 20 maps. Huge armys, not much upgrates, hospital units (go back to resuply e.g.), and lot of things that is in my mind.

I understand what you mean. Having basically a unlimited map from Tunisia to Egypt, cut into seperate maps for the various scenarios.
It is very interesting but nowadays it is almost impossibel to get so many new maps. The maps, the maps are always missing

Anyway, for a "first" campaign, i would suggest a campaign with around 12 scenarios, so it is not too long.
But making a campaign is not very complicated, compared to scenarios. A campaign is just a row of consecutive scenarios.

I am at the end of the 9th turn in the updated scenario. There are much more units now and the beginning was a little harder. But now my reinforcements are about to join the fight and i even got some fighters and a Stuka
In the north most of my units got destroyed but i was ableto hold the airfield. The enemy ships are all sunk or damaged. Once my submarine arrived on the scene i could fight the enemy battleship while my own battleship took care of the enemy cruisers.

I lost all VHs but was able to quickly recapture the VH in the very south with my paratroopers. As you can see my fleet of naval transport arrived at Rhodes and in the next turn i will start to disembark my forces. The enemy is currently sending its units down the coastal road along the eastern coast, so the north and west will be wide open...

I enjoyed playing the scenario very much

Towards the end it became more and more easy since i had a big numerical advantage when more and more enemy units got destroyed and my german reinforcements arrived on the battlefield. I was able to destroy all 96 enemy units.

The lighthouses maybe need to change country from Germany to Italy? I also had the feeling that the 500exp unit were too superior compared to the 150exp units. Maybe some more variation with the exp (for all units) would make things more even?

It is a great scenario and i am happy that we have it amongst ATOMIC standalone scenarios
