...Ah! Come in, Hauptmann. I see they give regimental command early these days. The war is killing us off... The General Staff has increased the pace of recruiting for the war. Recruits barely learn to hold a rifle and a gas mask, and they are sent to the front. With your regiment, the case is different. Your task is to teach your men loyalty for the Fatherland and the love for victory. The regiment you command is the first of its kind: it is reinforced with a Panzerzug. You will undoubtedly have a chance to use it for daring action in the future. In this battle, your armored trains will remain in their depots as ranged defensive support. You will note that the 77mm FlakWagen has a dual role: use the MOUNT command to switch between air defense and ground attack roles. The same will be true for many ground units in the campaign: be sure to check if some posess various dual roles!
Your first mission is a regimental training exercise just outside Berlin. Your "enemies" will be represented with captured British, French, and Russian uniforms. The first phase of the exercise is an offensive operation. The "enemies will be all around but you must capture the city objective in the alloted time.

Oh Herr Haupmann there is no BV here as this is training. It would be wise to use any prestige to re-strengthen any weak units as the next training excercise has limited deployment (core only).

Your second mission in the regimental training exercise is also just outside Berlin. Your "enemies" will be represented with captured British, French, and Russian uniforms. The first phase of the exercise is a defensive operation: you must stop groups "Aramis" (French) and "Charlie" (British). As soon as you receive an Austrian cavalry brigade as reinforcement, you must charge SE to defeat groups "Igor" and "Boris" (both Russian) and take your objective.

This training exercise will provide you additional use in employing a new weapon: the Panzerzug (Armored Train). The Panzerzug is a powerful combination of speed and firepower. However, its operation is limited only to railroads. Thus, you must be both bold to strike deep along railroad lines but also careful not to allow the enemy to completely surround your Panzerzug.
In this training mission, you will face troops in Russian uniforms. Your first task is to knock out group "Tzar" from their defensive positions at the junction of two very important railroad lines. Once your forces are united, send them to outflank the Russian positions to the NE and to strike at them from the rear.
Use your Eisenbahntruppen reinforcements to follow the breakthrough along the railroad line. As soon as they have reached the rear of Russian positions, send them to assault the Russians from behind.
Intelligence reports that a mobile group "Kazak" is somewhere in the area. Try to avoid prolonged fighting anywhere not near your objectives.

We are counting on your regiment and its Panzerzugs to achieve success in this mission. Remember: we must not fail to stop the Russians! Kowel is our last fortified line of defense. The front must stabilize.
HQ expects you to succeed fully in this operation. Therefore, you will be receiving no additional commendation for capturing your objectives. If your forces manage to expand the line farther into outlying villages controlled by the Russians, the command will be pleasantly surprised and will award you prestige for some of your conquests. You will be fighting alongside the Austrian 2nd Army.

It's an epic, but at the same time annoying and boring battle for two Danube crossings spammed by the AI with numerous units. Every free bridgehead hex has to be laboriously fought for so that own units can move up.01/09/1916 The Danube Operation

Your regiment will be attached to Army Group Danube under the command of General Mackensen. The Army Group is composed of Bulgarian, Austrian, German, and Turkish units. It is charged with the task of destroying the 3rd Romanian Army at Bucharest. The railroads in the area have been severely damaged, and your armored train will see only limited deployment: perhaps some ranged support across the river.
You are expected to succeed in capturing both bridgeheads on the Danube. The HQ will award you for raising the German flag over Bucharest. General Mackensen's plan is to perform a wide sweep of the Romanian flanks and to enter Bucharest from the NE. Do not rush to capture the closest bridgehead over the Danube.
Be aware of disturbing intelligence reports that a crack Russian corps is being assembled somewhere to the east of Bucharest. You must reach the city before the Russians have a chance to fortify the Romanians' positions!
Herr Hauptmann you may want to consider a Breckenpioniere as there are two bridge crossings and only one Breckenpioniere in Army Group Danube.

I abandoned the first attempt halfway through the turns. The opponent attacked my VH (Rasas) west of Riga, destroyed many aux units and I saw a big problem to recapture it. Things were not looking good on the other front lines either, the losses were considerable.01/09/1917 Riga Offensive
Oberstleutnant, the Russian city of Riga holds a powerful position on the Baltic Sea and guards the easiest approach to St. Petersburg. After the failed summer of 1917 offensive, the Russians have completely lost the initiative.
The German 8th Army's commander, General der Infanterie Hutier, has devised an unconventional plan: to outflank the Russian elite troops entrenched in Riga and to surround their positions. The flanks of the Russian 12th Army are guarded by troops with low morale. Many of these have gone through numerous Bolshevik mutinees. A quick strike across the Duna river SE of the city with support of bridging engineers is at the heart of the plan.
Your role in this assault is to lead the first echelon of attack--along with the newly-developed Stormtruppen. As soon as you gain the opposite bank of the Duna, be prepared to receive motorized reinforcements of the 1st and 2nd Guard Korps.

I didn't like this scenario because, again, only limited lineups are possible. Also, I am unpracticed in using the deep naval transport of several of my units - I don't know if they can attack other units. And I can't unload them because there are no rail tracks. Also, planes were constantly buzzing around me, reinforcements were arriving at unexpected positions, and the cannons of enemy forts were destroying my ships without me being able to see them. The assault on the last Russian stronghold of the Osel Islands is about to begin. We have assembled a fleet of colossal proportions. Ten dreadnoughts are ready to participate in the attack, escorted by cruisers, destroyers, and an airforce.
Intelligence reports that the Russian Baltic Fleet consists of a fleet of pre-dreadnoughts, three submarines, cruiser escort, and a large destroyer escort. The greatest threat, however, are the guns at Fort Zerel (SW part of Osel Island) and Tagaa Bay (the immediate landing zone). So far these fortifications have essentially denied the use of the port of Riga.
Your division has been assigned to the battlegroup under the leadership of Admiral Schmidt. The Russians are fielding a full division of three regiments on the island and are supported by the formidable Baltic Airforce. You must capture all of your objectives. Negotiations with the new Bolshevik government of Russia have again broken down. The ceasefire of November 1917 cannot be maintained. The Bolsheviks have tacitly rejected the German government's terms, so you must lead your men on another offensive.
Our supply lines have worn extremely thin. All hope lies on your rail-transported division. You must break through the Russian lines. Your objectives are the city of Narva itself and a village on the rail line just beyond. In addition, you must capture Slantsy to the south. Our intelligence reports that the Bolsheviks have retained control of the former Imperial Russian 42nd Corps. In addition, they are amassing loyal sailors for a counterstrike from Narva. These aggressive intentions must be checked if our terms for the ceasefire are to succeed.
Under our protectorate, the Estonian nationalist movement has declared its independence. Colonel Landoner has begun training the 4th Regiment at Narva. He has requested that he assist you in your offensive. We have yet to see what kinds of allies the Estonians will prove to be...
HQ deems it necessary to capture Narva, so no additional accolades for you are expected for taking this objective. The capture of any other village or town held by the enemy is bound to bring you necessary supplies and merits from your superior command.

Herr Oberstleutnant,
Your division has been transfered under the command of Count Rudiger von der Goltz. Your forces are instructed to embark on a fleet and sail to the Finnish port of Helsinki. You will have to place your armored train into a depot until you return to the continent.
The Finnish Civil War, which has just broken out, is a bloody conflict that warrants the intervention of German troops. The Bolshevik government, which has just signed a treaty of non-aggression with Germany, continues to secretly support Red Finnish mutineers.
The landing of your Freikorps units in conjunction with a strike by German and Finnish Jaeger units is aimed at capturing the "Red" Finnish stronghold of Helsinki. In this scenario you will be able to deploy a limited number of your troops: some may be deployed with the Jaeger division in the west, some at the landing site directly SW of Helsinki, and a reserve by the hydroplane carrier in transports. You can also use the carrier to deploy any airforce support your troops posess.
The "Red" Finnish forces are represented with the Soviet flag for clarity. Although the defenses of Helsinki are well prepared, the poor organization and lack of experience are serious drawbacks for the "Red" Finns.
The Finnish command has promised to reward you and your troops for every village you liberate from the Bolsheviks!

The Sofia Mutiny of Bulgarians soldiers from the Thessaloniki Front is threatening to overwhelm the capital of Sofia. This presents a serious threat to us in this late stage of the war, because the British, Greeks, and Italians have begun an offensive in that region.
You will support loyal Bulgarian troops and a few German regiments of the 11th Army to repel the assault and to put down the rebellion by October 2nd. You must capture the rebels' den at Radomir. The logistics of your troops' transfer do not permit the deployment of your armored train.
HQ will merit your achievements for capturing Radomir and other outlying villages that may not necessarily lie along the path of your offensive.

In the wake of the cease-fire, Polish nationalists have begun inciting the local populations in the Posen (Ponzan) area. The government of Austria-Hungary has failed to intern and disarm their Polish Legion units. Now, they have found their way into Poland and are threatening Germany's national integrity.
The rebellion has already begun. The garrison troops in Posen and its surroundings may not be able to hold the Poles off for much longer. You must rescue the situation.
The rebels have obstructed and mined many roads and railroads in the area. Be watchful as you advance toward the city. Your decisive action will carry you to victory.

Although I don't like landing scenarios, I was pleased with this operation. The battle was undecided for a long time, neither side could gain advantages. If one had made a dent in the defense, enemy reinforcements came again with the next turn and filled the gaps. Well timed turn limit.21/02/1919 Libau Landing

The Entente command has authorized Germany to intervene in the Russian Civil War on the shores of the Baltic Sea. You will lead a landing party at the port of Libau and capture it from the Soviet Latvian Riflemen division. You will receive support from the local White Russian and Latvian nationalist forces. Do not depend on them too much: their fighting abilities are inferior to the Freikorps.
You will face an enemy superior in numbers. Try to avoid prolonged fighting and focus on your objectives. The capture of their supply lines will dampen their fighting spirit tremendously.

Herr Oberst, the Baltic intervention operation--which started with your landing at Libau--has yielded some important successes. Riga has been captured by Freikorps forces, and nearly all of Livland is now under our control. However, the Bolsheviks refuse to be routed. It appears that their numbers have only increased, and their organization has improved. Red Comissars have stirred up the local Lithuanians and Latvians to fight against our forces.
The Red Army has chosen to blunt our advance at a railroad junction to the South-East of Riga: at Panevezys. Forward elements of the Baltische Landwehr have captured this town, but they face an overwhelmingly stronger foe in an uneven defensive battle. You must relieve their defense and perform a bold counter-strike to defeat this grouping of the Soviet South-Western Front.
A Brilliant Victory is improbable in this difficult battle. You will face numerous flank attacks, so divide your force wisely, Herr Oberst. The capture of villages away from your primary objectives will yield you extra resources.

At HQ, I improved INF and ATY.11/05/1919 Posen Offensive
Herr Oberst, your next assignment is of unique diplomatic delicacy on Germany's eastern frontier: the Posen region. Following the Polish uprising in December of 1918, our troops have been unable to resist the onslaught. Having fortified our units in this disputed region, the Polish army seems to be awaiting some sort of a diplomatic move by the French. You must act decisively to interfere with these plans.
You will command your Freikorps in an infiltration operation beyond the Polish lines. The local Posen Landwehr has formed to resist the Polish rule and to assist your troops. You will initiate an uprising among the German population. Following these actions, the Reichswehr 66th Gen-Kommando will initiate its general offensive to come to your aid and to recapture Posen. The army planners feel that as long as the Reichswehr moves to protect German interests in the disputed region, the action can be classified under the same rules of engagement as those you have followed in the Baltics.
You will be facing a well-armed army with extensive cavalry and armored train forces. Use the element of surprise in the opening phase of the conflict to secure favorable territory. Expect the Posen Landwehr to mobilize soon after your troops enter the region.
Note: in order to simulate the delayed entrance of the Reichswehr into action, the bulk of your troops start behind a minefield. Await the arrival of mine clearers to join the battle.

HQ: no activity in the first attempt, but I aborted it after a few turns. After that I used the prestige I saved and upgraded the INF to the current model. With that it ran better.22/06/1919 Battle of Cesis
With most of Latvia free of the presence of the Red Army, Herr von der Goltz has begun negotiations with the Entente and local governments to build an expeditionary force to send eastward against the retreating Red Army. Goltz has insisted on retaining supreme German control of such a force.
Herr Generalmajor, there have been some disturbing developments in Latvia. Despite the Freikorps' efforts to battle Bolshevism in Latvia, a faction has split off the government friendly to us and has begun organizing an independent Lettish army with the help of Britain. This army refuses to co-operate with our command and has summoned the forces of the Estonian Army to their aid.
Although it is unclear who has fired the first shots at Cesis, the development is serious. The Estonians have dispatched their Soomusrongide Diviis against us. You must stop this upstart rebellion if our gains of the first part of the year are to hold any permanence.

I also aborted the first attempt after a few turns. I noticed that the battle will be decided in the north and therefore I have to delegate my best units there. After I quickly lost the VH in the first attempt and all attempts to recapture it failed, I managed to recapture the VH in the second attempt directly in the first counterattack and hold it. This allowed the very early BV.03/07/1919 Goltz in Riga
Herr Generalleutnant, despite our efforts at Cesis, the Estonians have overwhelmed our forces. The Esierne Division has begun its retreat to Riga.
The rebel troops have now secured the assistance of the British navy and airforce. In addition, Fort Vecaki to the NE of Riga has been captured by Russian troops loyal to the rebel alliance. They have begun a bombardment of Riga and are receiving supplies from the British fleet.
You must relieve the Baltische Landwehr defending Riga, and you must sweep the area clean of all rebel troops. This will be the most difficult task, but von der Goltz holds faith in your troops.
You will receive assistance from the VI Guard-Reserve Korps and its supporting vessels and airforce within a few days.
