Hi Urica, I jsut got a question about (one of your) maps and I think that it could be useful to have your reasoning public.

Argonne, map 1489 uses a strange roads. I understand that the serpentine paths are for gameplay reason, but I'm more interested in the way you design cities. What's the idea behind the starfish/spidery city roads? Is this just an aesthetical tweek, or does it have some gameplay application? I get that it simulates the city grid, but is it even useful for one-hex cities? Does it affect movement in any noticeable way?

I'm editing away these stars so that I got a homogenous design through the campaign, but maybe I should rather keep them in place and put them in the other maps where they aren't thus far. IDK their purpose, so I'm asking.

Thanks for info.

No, they don't affect the movement in one-hex cities (not that I had noticed, at least). But I still use them, because it's easier and faster when I'm making the .mapx file. I select one road grid with the shape of a *, and then copy/paste it in all the "town" hexes. It works very well in all kind of maps, and I don't have to waste much time thinking about which roads should exist in every particular city.

Wow, that's cool, I didn't know that there's this function in Suite! Now it makes sense... and it also makes sense to not waste my time deleting the stars, although now I'm close to done.

Frankly, I'm tired of making mountain maps. They take too much time and I'm not too good at it. Now I should make another one for the battle of Marasesti, but do you know what? F**k it. Tolyi used the map of Iasi for that battle, so if it was good enough for his campaign (FGTM), it will be good enough for mine, too. I need to take a break from map-making.

Kow the feeling. And your track record certainly gives you the right to do so.

Tiled maps could be another option, at least for certain campaigns.

I use a couple of tricks to hide the worst errors. Trees and forests are really good for that. The problem with mountain maps is that they take a lot of time, and I need to pay attention to a lot of small details. It's exhausting.

I did only one mountain map, and it¨s a snowy one, so yeah, I don't know how difficult the standard terrain mountais are. On snow everything is pretty easy, and most of things blend together due to the grey-white-blue-violet color of 90% of map. :-)
Now when i think about it, it must be a real pain to make the mountain look naturally and not cut-and-pasted, also color balance must be a nightmare... :phew
