Generally better known and acclaimed for his parts in the early 007 "saga" movies, his career was long and varied.
I'll bring out of the "memories chest" something that'll probably be much more in line with the main issue of this forum:

Yes, he was one of my favorite actors.
Best James Bond, but by far not his peak performance. I liked him better in Rising Sun, Medicine Man and Finding Forrestall.

Let's not forget this performance:
RIP Sir Sean Connery. It seems everyone is mortal after all (the jury is still out there for Keith Richards though)

Oh my @Zardoz images
I confess that James Bond are his only older performances i remember - from his "modern" appearances i liked:

for "Rose"... untypical (for Bond followers and no sexy chicks around) but interesting Connery. By chance i mentioned him and role few months ago - in historical talks - although father Jorge (Chaliapin - had to check - old Russian origin sctor) steals the show there and is the best played role ;

Well his last role was League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Which was a disaster, but only proved what a good actor he was. He managed to play a great role in a totally disaster of a movie...

Too awkward to say "nice pistol"...
Another one with a sword (despite being a secondary role):
