And the less serious request...
I'm missing some smilies
The new one is too large
and the old one bows more often ! Also: blue is more submissive than yellow
Seriously, with the new smilie i get naughty instead, see:
The new is pink
and lacks the laugh
Because i say so ?
Maybe i will get used to the new one
The ambigousity of this one is mindblowing:
- rofl
- just kidding
- stop kidding
- *doh*
- you don't say
- yeah, i knew that
- yeah, i knew that, can i still have cookie ?
- that's crazy, dude/tte
- whatever
and more. So if you don't want the other one(s) to know what you mean, or maybe even if you yourself don't know what you mean...

smilies were collected from the web in march 2019, when jp was offline. since then i never cared about them. if anybody misses anything i ask you to send me 1. the gif file (animated is preferred!) 2. the code ( ":" + "whatever") one gif can have multiple codes. i definitely will not hunt for emoticons

As said, the smilies are not serious. Everyone has his/her preferences, and if we collect all, then we would end up with a ton of smilies nobody can sort out anymore.
I suggest keeping it as is, and if someone wants to use "own style" there is the (img) code

i don't see any reason why we can't add a few more if necessary, that's much more easier to do than editing the styles

made some changes as asked:
- blue ":bow" has been reinstated:
- ":lolnod" and ":naughty" are separated:
- ":what" & ":fused" and ":ugh" are separated:
- added ":winkgrin" for wink + smile:
(imo the pink ":wink" is better for wink, well, because it justs winks and doesn't smile too)
but missed reinstating the old smile (it's not animated) and the picasso face (too meanings = no real meanings = too much possible confusions
)

Thanks a lot Csaba - especially for the
smilie which wasn't included in the official request

updated 18 emoticons (just to make Chris
), now more smilies have the same style, more of them are animated
and also added a new one, just in case you want to thank Luis something:
i'm looking for more optional updates for the static ones like 'i hope', 'neutral', 'bullhorn', 'yuck', if anybody can recommend a good site with animgif emoticons, don't hesitate to share its location

I use smileys from these pages:
http://www.greensmilies.com/ - Unfortunately, this page has not been updated for 5 years
https://www.smilies.4-user.de/ - Updates take place in a rhythm of several months

I like those icons ... although we could drop the Steve's one, because I don't think he is going to join us here
BTW isn't it the "2cents" a bit too big ?
+1 i'm not sure the
is a nice joke or too offensive. should we replace it by something neutral?
Maybe we could add another one for a "sweet" wife

Men have very different ideas about the ideal picture of a "sweet" woman:
Version 1:
Version 2:
is indispensable. This smiley is amusing me and reminds me of my dear "house dragon" when I play OpenGeneral too long like today.

ok, i'm adding one
and now
is animated (i made a very-ver simple 2-frame gif), because there is no decent cc aar without mentioning him and his style. he is a legend, participating here or not
the most important thing is that i can prioritize my tasks, like editing less important gif files vs. adding more faq entry
edit: made this
for "phew". is it acceptable?

Imho, not every smilie needs to be animated. Animations take up bandwith, which can slow down handheld and wlan devices. Also, some things just aren't animated (like crossed fingers)
Suggestions (suggestion != request):
- yes, we had this before, but [; + )] is currently also [: + wink]. I doubt that anybody will write [: + wink] for this basic/standard smilie. Otoh, [: + wink] had been [: + winkgrin] on JP's for ages, thus for simplicity while writing, could the winkgrin part of the command be restored to wink please ?
- the pirate ship [: + arrr] was great:
- what do you think about adding a salute smilie ?

smile without teeth, teethy smile & "lol" style.... about some animated, well honestly not fitting emotion/expression sometimes like that "yep" somehow too nervous looking, but not important enough to me as subject, as probably visible rarely go through emoticons sets myself .... liked the ones I assigned to Byzo-Greeks in my "de administrando imperio" story back at JP's
(as unimportant example how they can change the words if added)

apage satanas!
the more animated a smilie is, the better. who could keep alive the sweet 90s besides us?
most of us spent our sexually active years in 1990s and 2000s, and animgifs bring these decades back. don't dare to criticise them
could the winkgrin part of the command be restored to wink please ?
but we already have winkgrin

something smaller than mr. schwimmer would be beter, e.g. about 20x20px
+1 i need somebody translating what Ale wrote. i know, i shouldn't have opened the third bottle of wine today, but i simply don't understand a single word about his post
+2 after reading Ale's post 1000 times, the only thing i got is the same thing what my ex
said the last year: i'm personally responsible for everything bad happened during the last 1000 years including g**gle, sicherheitsdienst and global warming, and somehow i screwed the emoticons. that's obvious. but i still miss the details, if they matter at all
and if i may have any chance to fix something (no way, i shall lick mr. stalin's balls on odd days and mr. hitler's balls on even days in the hell for sure till the eternity expires)

Don't panic. I'm not a devil (i swear
) just old school, retro, antiquated. Also, i did
not say "0% of smilies shall be animated". What i said was "not 100% of smilies need to be animated", 97% are sufficient don't you think ?
Example,
is totally fine without animations.
lvjtn wrote: ↑2019-11-13 19:52, Wednesday

What we have now
= [; + )] and [: + wink]
= [: + winkgrin]
On JP's we had
= [: + wink]
Maybe it is just me, but i doubt that people will write [: + wink] for a smilie which is quicker to write and known in every online community as [; + )].
My suggestion is: instead of reserving a smilie code in a place where it will be never used, free it up for a smilie which we know and which had the code in the past
lvjtn wrote: ↑2019-11-13 19:52, Wednesday

something smaller than mr. schwimmer would be beter, e.g. about 20x20px
It was the smallest picture i could find
(in 15-20 seconds)
On a more serious note, i wanted to make clear that i mean the "handwave" greeting.
I have looked at some smilie collections, but generally speaking the salute smilies look either
- like something different but not a salute
- or as if the smilie was indicating "give me a beer/wine/vodka bottle"
Maybe it is just me, but here is an example for the latter:
As for actual suggestions, the top candidates are imho:
-
i'm not happy with the "yes sir", because it restricts the smilie's role into a confirmation - whereas the salute could also be a greeting, a goodbye, a show of respect, a "reporting for duty", and surely some others i am currently unaware of.
-
-
My personal favourite.
Sidenote, until know i wasn't aware that some smiles don't have transparent background, sorry

but winkgrin is a wink + a grin, and a wink is a wink, aren't they?
i think the current smilies are the correct ones, jp version was like air zoc in pg2: a mistake
- what do you think about adding a salute smilie ?
the problem is i haven't found any salute smilie in the used stiles, and what you posted are absolutely different. i made 4-5 smilies by combining a few existing ones, but this time i have no starting material, and honestly, i really would focus on other things a bit. of course, if anybody can find a good smilie in the current styles what can be used or easily modified, a salute smilie definitely sounds good for a war game forum

Yup, i spent about an hour trying to find fitting smilies, this was the closest i got.
