Hi, I am trying to modify an existing Units file, but I am having some trouble to understand how to create the adequate mappings in the ground transports, so that I can associate the right transports to the right units.

Besides this I am also trying to find more information about Fronts and Factions and what are they used for. Can someone point me to additional information about this?

What exactly do you want to know about ground transports? Basically the matching box has to be checked for both the transport and the ground unit that is supposed to use this very transport.

Yes, but it was not working, because I also had to set the correct Faction to work correctly. After some trial and error I think that I got it right.
