Building a Campaign
Greetings all,
Is there any tutorials out there how to use the editor to make a campaign?
I'm starting from scratch here, so something that shows which buttons to press to load a map, to place units on the map, turns, prestige, events (new units showing up on map, etc).... would be very helpful.

Re: Building a Campaign
I don`t know if there are any tutorials. But I had made two videos. One how to make a campaign with PG2 suite (it is same mechanic like Open General Suite, but Open General have several other features).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbOEiwzG8mQ
I also had created a Open General scenario live. You will find the video there:

But both videos are in german.

@ Major Heinz
Can I ask you to share your experience with recording videos and OBS settings
Preferably in a new topic

Re: Building a Campaign
Just found out that http://www.open-general.com/mapx.php does not seem to have the map search working...
Can anyone check what's going on?
I got to the point where I need to load a map, but I got stuck because I can't make my map collection for the campaign.

For maps, mapfinder is the best place to go: http://mapfinder.gilestiel.eu/

OK, thanks.
90 maps for Poland, that is an amazing collection.
I have info to get going without getting stuck probably.
This will be fun.

Re: Building a Campaign
90 maps for the country of Poland - this is the current administrative division (after World War II)
However, maps from the interwar period and World War II are also available in the locations - Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania
Additionally - there are maps from these regions on a 5K scale (large maps 5000x5000px), but you will not find them in MF
If you are interested, please write
Edit
The database has been restored - XXL Maps (although numbers 50025 - 50030 are missing)

Re: Building a Campaign
Yeah, I'm looking through it and there will be Vilnius and a couple of others that used to be in Poland but are currently not.
This will take a while to write a storyline in detail and put all the maps in sequence, and then set the battles up.
I'll write something if I'm stuck.

Re: Building a Campaign
Next question - why are machine gun infantry units commonly classified as anti-tank?
They often have just 1 point of hard attack...

Re: Building a Campaign
Is this about the Gustlik e-file?
Then ask this question on the opengeneral.pl forum
There was a discussion about it around 2016 - if I remember correctly
I can't find it now
Re: Building a Campaign
Most likely the efile designers wanted the MG to use the AT-class traits. So the setting is not about the hard attack but about the inherent (hard-coded) traits of the AT class.RoyalBengalTiger wrote: ↑2024-08-14 01:50, Wednesday Next question - why are machine gun infantry units commonly classified as anti-tank?

But since you are working on your own version of the efile, you could change everything to your liking. Like putting MGs into an other class.

Re: Building a Campaign
Alright, so what are the special traits?
Is there a list somewhere?
And yes, this is how it was done in Gustlik's efile.
I'm already done doing some changes, but I'd like to know the reasons why some things are done a certain way before doing more changes...
I'll read the Polish forums too when I get a minute (OK, couple hours).

Re: Building a Campaign
Waldzios can provide a full explanation - he introduced the changes
Also in the cavalry - previously it was combined with horses (a unit without transport)
Currently there are two "cavalry" - the old one in the reconnaissance class, and the new one as infantry + transport (horses or horse-drawn cart)
Of course - by creating your own e-file you can change everything as Randowe said
Gustlik's e-file covers a long period of time - from the twenties to the sixties --> therefore the units must be more "universal"
If you only want to have the period of World War II, then you have an easier task ...
