An alternative interpretation for the fellow in front of the queen and left of the flamingos. Yes, Prince has some logic. But taking into account the colour of the garments it could be King Crimson.

The scissors left of the Smashing Pumpkins have already been indentified as Scissor Sisters, but I can add the Pink Flamingos and als Crimson King to the list. We'll see later what is right and what is wrong.

Also found the page of a fellow who presents and comments the quiz, including link to his own list of "74 solutions".
But what I found the most interesting is the fellow opinating the image includes extra quiz references.
Maybe the image was used by Virgin Records, not purposely produced for the quiz.
For instance, the fellow pounding the pumpkins is using a "Sledgehammer" so he could easily be Peter... Gabriel of course.

I think the hints are very direct. Otherwise there would be hundreds of possible matches.
For example the zombie could then be The Cranbarries, The Zombies, The Hooters and many more.
We will see at the end which ones we got right and which ones not. There are some pictures floating around, showing the solutions.

Since nobody posted any more suggestions, I'll post the solutions. Let's see which ones we got right and which ones we missed. Seems there are only 70 bands though. (Spoiler codes do not work (to hide the pictures) or I don't know the correct command)
