I finaly put the path of the KRIEGSMARINE BLITZ together. Yeah, that's the name i come up with at the end :lol
I wanted to play the "old" scenarios with ships too and so this campaign will not be completely new one, but basically it will be a navalized ATOMIC Blitzkrieg/Big Blitz campaign. So it will be part of the campaigns family and share many scenarios with the other two campaigns. Ther will be a handful of brand new scenarios though. Overall there will be 42 scenarios. All of the maps, except two, will be of the 3K size (3150 x 3000 pixel).
So in the next weeks i will try to finish the 6 missing maps for the Big Blitz and Kriegsmarine campaigns and then work on both campaigns simultaneously. Release end of summer or so...
In fact i already have played round about 20 scenarios of the Big Blitz and 10 scenarios of the Kriegsmarine campaign :cool

Just a little teaser :tasty :tasty

Initially i had planned to design this scenario for Mark's, Matze's and mine cancelled KAISER campaign "Rise and Fall of an Empire" and it's stuck in my head for more than 1.5 years now. Now i finaly was able to design it in a WW2 setting...

Current scenario: Dardanelles Breakthrough

At the beginning of the scenario the British, ANZAC and Free French are about to land north and south of the Dardanelles Strait. But in this campaign the player's fleet set sail to the Black Sea to take part in Barbarossa....
So the player will start in the very west of the map and has to chase the enemy, capture VHs at the beaches and recapture lost VHs to defend the neutrality of Turkey and keep the Dardanelles Strait open for passage :cool

With the new version of the efile and the ATOMIC Blitzkrieg campaign released later this month i can take a look into the future. With the addition of the Novgorod map the collection of 3150x3000 pixel classic style maps numbers 50 now. I will center all my future campaign plans around this collection big maps. Of course there will be some more. Since i started map making in 2017 i planned to retire from map making when i reach 150 maps and so there is still room for 14 more maps. And i guess all of them will be big maps.
In the second half of this year i will work on the Big Blitz campaign (see path below) and next year i want to create a Soviet campaign and both campaigns will share a lot of maps. And of course they will share some of the planned maps too, like big maps of Sevastopol and Stalingrad.

A Soviet campaign can use many maps twice as the front in the Great Patriotic War went from west to east and later back from east to west.

There are also 8 maps of North Africa and with additional two maps there will be a good base for a Axis Africa campaign i think.

Image

I am constantly dancing the unit limbo, deleting this unit to add that unit to the efile. Basically this means that the big nations get bigger and some small nations become even smaller or completely get wiped out. I want to add one more unit to Germany and USSR each before the release of the new version of the efile... these need also new icons. [EDIT: germany +2, USSR +1]

1..Germany.....961
2..USSR........715
3..UK..........711

Then, instead of making two big german campaigns (as i've mentioned above), i decided to merge the proposed Kriegsmarine Blitz and Big Blitz campaigns into just one campaign. There are now 55 scenarios planned and the player can use core ships in 35 of them. I'll try to use as many big maps as possible.

No problemo :) I meant just in case you want to play :cool

So today i finished the icons and added tha last units:

- Bf 109W-1, A floatplane version of the Bf 109. Some sources say 6 were built and used in Norway. Makes sense to me to use floatplane fighter for convoy defense, and patrol duties along the coast but i somehow doubt they were ever build. There are no photos.
- A proposed Me 262T-2 Eisvogel/Seeschwalbe all-weather carrier-borne fighter. There was already a T-1 carrier-borne fighter without AW special in the efile. I just edited existing icons and changed the color to blue...
- A Soviet BT-7 + Infantry unit.

You got mail :howdy

The new version is up for grabs :cool If anybody else is intersted in the new version of the efile and campaigns (most notably the ATOMIC Blitzkrieg campaign) and can't wait until it is available for download, feel free to send me an pm.

Just the latest news: I decided to change the Kishinev scenario in the aforementioned Big Blitz campaign for a new big Narva map. Then the player can use core ships too.
I am tempted to replace even more of the old scenarios and small maps as i have initialy planned :huh At the moment i am working on a big map of Stalingrad. I am thinking about whether i should name all the factories or not. For now i have only the Dzerzhinsky Tractor Factory and the Mamayev Kurgan Hill as landmarks in the city. And of course the nearby aviation school as an airfield. We'll see :lol

How can I get this updated campaign?
Should I download it here, or get it ingame?

I have finished Forward Comerade campaign at 100/100 setting few days ago and it was my first run with Atomic efile. My impressions are very positive and I like this efile. I took short path with early victory, but I plan to go again later testing long path. Range-3 KV-2 tank rocks :banana
I completed dozens of PG2 campaigns, but have very limited experience with OG so far. After long break I have more time for playing currently (my son started to play it as well, so we can go together and discuss things :lol ) - I plan to check many new efiles and campaigns, as well as (maybe) some older CCs which I missed due to my absence.
:clap Please keep your good work going and don't care about accidental critics. It's very easy to criticize, but much harder to do something worthwhile yourself.

@panzerdarek I like you enjoy the campaign, because I created it. Maybe you have recognized that it is a converted and updated (several new scenarios) version of my Vorwärts, Genosse PG2 campaign for the RSF that I also have let`s played.

Thanks a lot for your words panzerdarek :howdy Major Heinz will also be happy that you like his campaign :banana

You will find new campaigns and a truckload of new maps, 10999 units and units you have never seen before :lol.
I tried to make this efile player-firendly. There are tons of units, but for example, the infantry unit system is basically the same for all countries (except for unique/special units) so once you get used to it, it will be very easy to play with :ihope
Enjoy your stay and have fun with your son playing this and all the other efiles :cool

Hello CaptRIO :howdy

I sent the new version of the efile to Luis and Csaba and once it is uploaded at the Open General homepage, you can get it there (or simply klick the link in the first post of this thread (which now leades to the old version of the efile).
Meanwhile you can send me a pm with you email address and i will mail the new version of the efile.

Either way, the zip file will contain the efile and all campaigns and you simply have to delete the old ATOMIC efile folder within your OG folder and put the new efile folder in.

While i am working on the maps (Department Manche is nearly finished) i put the path of the Soviet campaign together and adjusted the Big Blitz campaign. In the Big Blitz campaign i want to get rid of Sedan so i will replace it either with Spasteurs big map no 1236 or preferably with a big map of South Holland :ihope
Kishinev will be replaced by Narva. One more scenario with ships :cool
As i have said before, many of the new maps will be used in both campaigns. The Soviet campaign will use only 3K big maps and battles should be all pretty big with many units involved. Only both Jassy scenarios and the first scenario will use smaller maps. I am not sure about the first scenario yet, for now i choose Minsk, but i may change that. The rest of the path is determind by the maps and should be pretty much the final version :yes There will be 30 scenarios.
In order to make all maps needed for these two campaigns i'll dismiss 2 planned north african maps.

With all the big figures that will appear from the big campaigns being made I went searching for the old spreadsheets from when I played AAW multiple times after I upgraded it.

So the challenge is set, in 2015 I played the full 47 scenarios with AI set at 500% and the result was
Total Kills = 6357
Total Exp = 157618
Most kills in one scenario(Zitadelle) = 260
Most exp in one scenario(Zitadelle) = 6217
Average kills per scenario = 135
Average exp per scenario = 3354

So will anyone accept the challenge, higher totals or higher averages for smaller campaigns?

Puma wrote: 2021-07-09 22:16, Friday with AI set at 500%
I assume the AI spammed the battlefield with endless hordes of cheap units. That's not possible in my campaigns. The AI never has an SH because i want to prevent exactly that.
If i had to guess, i think there will be something between 5500 - 6000 enemy units in the big campaign. We'll see. But none of the units will be bought by the AI.

I reworked the path this week and kicked out all the scenarios that still used small old maps. I had the first 15 scenarios tested but now i will start again. All maps will be 3150x3000 pixel now, with the exception of my Gdansk map. At the moment i have 55 scenarios planned and in most of them the player can use core ships. I also want to get rid of the term Blitz, so nothing reminds one on the historic campaigns.
The big campaign will be called 1938-47 ATOMIC WELTKRIEG now.
I have 4 maps in the pipeline and when i have finished them i'll start to design the campaign. Though i'll use my big map scenarios from the Atomic Blitz campaign when possible. There are also some more new units + icons i created in the last days. Still, i have to dance the unit limbo :lol Whenever i add a new unit to a major country i have to create a free slot and delete a unit from a minor nation that is unlikely to be used. So the overall number of units 10999 does not change.
I think, when i have a bunch of scenarios ready, i can release another efile update with new icons, units + big campaign scenarios. Maybe that will happen in 3 months or so. With the dropbox i can release updates more often :yes

Sorry for the inconveniences. Please go to dropbox and download the efile:

I have a query. I am playing now "FORWARD, COMRADE!" and i think that soviet units like T-34 or Katyusha (arty) are expensive. I thought that soviet units had the advance that they could produced easy and with less cost than German tanks. E.g. Panzer IVD is less expensive.

Edit: It is just a query. I don't want to suggest anything. And as i am so happy with all this magnifisent job that you have done, if you don't like to talk about your e-file, it is respected.
i ll keep you inform about my progress in this campaign.

Thank you :howdy have fun with Major Heinz' campaign :cool

Since economics and production capacity is not part of the game the economic strengh of a nation is not taken into consideration. The prestige prices are purely based on the values of each unit. If economic strengh would have an effect on the unit prices, soviet infantry would cost like zero prestige or US tanks and planes would cost almost nothing in the later war years :dunno

The T-34/40 is better than the Panzer IVD in all aspects but INI (at least in this efile. I once called it a fantasy efile so i don't have to argue with people about some numbers :D ) I also think that the speed of the T-34 is very impotant in this game.
Katyushas are mechanized (can move and fire!) and make a lot of soft damage, so the high price is justified in my opinion.

But yeah, i don't like to talk about the numbers of the units because i would not change anything anyway :lol :lol

I want to add to my previous post:

I can only test and balance the prices of a nations's units when i see the units in the buy window in the game. Only that works for me.
The efile has 10999 units and in the SUITE it is very hard to balance the prices (at least for me) because i can only see some abstract lists or selections of units.

Just to give an example, when 10 nations use the very same Krupp artillery piece, but with different designations i can not simply filter these 10 units by name. But when i use other filters i maybe also select other units as well. We would need two names for every unit. The original name from the producer and the name given by the individual customers/nations. But that is technicaly not possible. So it is not so easy to handle thousands of units. This was just an example, no discuccion needed :lol :lol

Since i spend a lot of time with the Blitzkrieg campaign and (test)played the scenarios over and over again, the Germans are the best balanced nation. It is also the longest campaign, which helps. But there is only one Soviet campaign and it's not made by me. And thus i spend only little time cycling through the buy window compared to the other campaigns.
Like the Soviets, Italy and the major allies should be okay too when it comes to prices, but i would need more and longer campaigns to tweak the prices (if needed).
Then, for example, Japan has more than 500 units, but has only been a minor auxiliary nation yet and i would need a long campaign to finalize the units prestige values.
But on the other hand there will never be a Japanese campaign by me because we lack big Asia and Pacific maps :dunno

Sorry if this is not interesting and not what you meant :bonk :lol :howdy

Exactly :twink
The unit price should be valued by technical aspects (comparing stats) rather than economic strength of nation which uses it. The economic situation may be easily simulated by amount of prestige provided for fighting sides during campaign by the designer.

...wasn't weapon's characteristic to fire-then-move (due to fear of counterfire) rather than move-then-fire. plus one squad/platoon had more support vehicles than launchers, they drove them unloaded to new position, then preparation for fire etc. etc. etc. :) .... on the other hand their characteristic to move after fire much more than conventional positional artillery, do have some "pros" for being mechanized ;

nonetheless just thinking aloud, not so important to me and made btw post not from home, nor really matters and to represent real characteristics in game on turns is hard. (and i like only tbs the most) have fun, glad you are enjoying game and tweaks like that, almost fresh :yes ... i'm more "swords and sandals" (rather armor) man so these are not really my primary subjects but on one thing I agree that many things in many historical stuff is fantasy, often question is raised of were dragons really able to move-than-fire or fire-than-move in medieval games for example :lol

also since mentioned for fun, one thing i really missed in historical "general" series (fantasy general from SSI aside) is something like development and research aspect they only included in that mentioned title... anyway, it's pure tactical game as is but having options of where you put money in research of some weapons or enabling more factories after conquest could have been there, but wasn't due to nature and to prevent players researching super weapons... was a moment of boredom so i put few lines, i'm not even playing much lately let alone participating in ww2/modern-war panels and details on weapons....) have fun, have audience and new players, most important for you.

Oh come on! You know how the game works. Fire and transport/move is what standard artillery can do, no?
And since we have the option to "mechanize = move and fire" units, which artillery unit is better suited than Katyusha and other self-probelled ATY?

...as long as they are not giving fire support to attacked unit it is passable :lol general conclusion is, yes it must be fun why not, though some armored assault guns are more appropriate for that "q" than weak and "need to run" Katyushas :) anyway - anyway... i'm more "sword and sandals" man, if i never said that.... have fun, i'm out and you are officially prime game designer alive from now on, here is a medal.... ooops, sorry :yes

Hello :howdy I don't know which camo icons you mean. I will add only few new icons to the efile since i am really bad and slow with icon making. I don't remember the exact number of icons in the equipicons.dat which came with the previous version and i am too lazy to research :lol but there will be around 40 new icons with the next update. Don't know if i will make more icons because:

I must admit i question myself every day since 1.5 years if it still makes sense to beat this dead horse game or if i should just stop creating content and walk away like the others. I am sorry, but i am pretty sure, there will never be a british or japanese campaign or any other new campaign beyond the german Weltkrieg campaign i am currently working on. And i am not even sure if i have the will power to finish this one... Still have to create 8 more maps + 2 are 99% done. Making the scenarios is rather easy, but designing the maps takes soooo very long.

Speaking about Japan: It's a shame, because Japan has more than 500 units in the efile and and of course, when i started with the efile i had a japanese campaign in mind, but we lack big pacific maps. We would need a series of around 25 big maps for a proper campaign in my opinion. Since i started working with big maps only, i just can't go back to the tiny old maps.

Sorry, that's not what you wanted to hear :o

I understand you, maybe you could convert some campaigns from other e-files, for example Rising Sun Campaign from OLG WW2, some campaigns from Gustlik E-Files etc . Speaking about Camos: You could fix some units that don't have camos, for example Dicker Max etc. What i said was just a suggestion. :)

Now i know what you mean. You mean the winter and desert versions of the icons. Well, we are missing thousands of icons.Thousands. But as i said, i really struggle when it comes to icon-making, so i make only the icons that (a) i am able to do and (b) i really need, like a blue naval version of the Me 262 or a open version of a old WWI truck.
Also, there is no collaboration or so. Evereyone is on his own. Same with maps, campaigns, etc.

Sorry, but i will not convert a single campaign in the future. I mean if its your (general you) favorite campaign, the go for it and convert it. I converted the Blitzkrieg campaign, but many maps/scenarios are new and others have been heavily modified.
Most of the existing campaigns are very old. The abandoned efiles are small and lack the variety of units and unit specials and whatnot. A lot of wrong maps are used. Maps are small, etc...
It would be much easier to create a new campaign from scratch imo. But then we meet all the other problems i was talking about. No big maps available, no collaboration,...

So, as i have said before, i will try to finish the 9 missing maps and the ATOMIC Weltkrieg camapign and in the next 30 years i will play this campaign over and over again :lol :lol because it is everything i ever wanted: Playing a long campaign with big nations/many different units on large maps.

At the moment i really really doubt i will create anything beyond this. (The only thing i could imagine to do in some years just for fun and for myself, is a Soviet campaign, because when i finished all my maps for the german campaign i would not need new ones.)
This is a forum and i am here for the community, but it's dead, so... run, run away and don't look back :P :lol :lol I have other hobbies, it's not like i don't know what to do with my time :lol

Of course i would like to be false with my assumptions and i it would be nice to see 10 active people making a comeback or join the forum tomorrow, but i better play lotto and win millions, which is more realistic ;) :D

The SUITE is used for everything, be it converting a campaign, editing a savegame or creating a new scenario/campaign or working on an efile.

If you want to learn it, i would suggest that you start editing savegames, thus it is possible to get a instant understanding what was changed when you play the savegame. Change the weather, add units, edit prestige, change unit locations, etc...
A savegame and a scenario are exactly build the same way, because a savegame contains all information of that scenario (at a given turn). The next step is to create a new scenario from scratch, then a little campaign of 2, then 3 scenarios.
Of course it doesn't help when i say that it is not so hard :lol You just have to invest some time :yes

Decided to start Atomic Blitz campaign. Would have preferred Big Blitz. Wonder if my slow campaign play will achieve to cope with the progress of the campaign developer in finishing the campaign scenarios. :) . I will post AAR. :grumpy

Madrid is easier then in some other campaigns. You just have to move forward desicively and because the weather remains fair 2 Ju´s will pave the way.

The dots are always there! But in most efiles they are colored grey and nearly invisible. As far as i remeber only KAISER use a yellow/brown dot.
The dots show that a unit has ammo and/or can fire for both, friendly and enemy units. I colored this dot red/orange to make the visibility better. So for example, at the end of a turn the player can see more easy if a unit was forgotten or you can see when a enemy unit ran out of ammo.

Have fun with the campaign! :cool If you want to post all AAR you may want to create a own thread. If you just want to post a AAR from time to time you can use this one. :howdy

PrinzMurmel wrote: 2021-09-10 08:35, Friday This looks like an awful lot of work :shock - and like you are really enjoy doing it :D
Was just reading this thread out of curiosity and wanted to say Kudos for all this effort (this actually goes to all scenario designers)! When I have time I will eventually test the campaign (currently busy with several others) :clap
Thanks for your words :howdy I must say, i wouldn't mind if somebody else would create some big maps :lol :lol
Narvik map is finished but i am not happy with the trees i used, so i will remove them and use other trees. But i will give that map some rest before i come back to it and decide what looks best. Started working on 3 others maps :lol
My plan is still to upload a new version of the efile and campaigns once the Narvik map is 100% finished and uploaded at mapfinder.

kind regards :howdy

Here are the newest icons for those who are interested. They will be available through the equipicons.dat with the next update.
The first 5 icons will replace obsolete icons, thats why they share the existing ID. When using equipicons the old ones will be overriden.
The Estonian and Latvian HQ infantry wear fictional uniforms (edited/taken from other nations). I could not find color pictures of the historic uniforms but i wanted to have the HQ/flag infantry in the efile because more modern HQ infantry looks totaly wrong in WW1.

:yes ...to continue my previous post:

Please keep in mind that i may use icons for other units than it is announced. For example the blue C.R.32 will be used for a german carrier-borne biplane. It just was the most fitting and most easy option to use a C.R.32 as template.
