the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
(written in april 2018)
in mind-march 2018, i promised you to have a new site before may, containing ALL things what we had on sf. unlike the kaiser (you know, who was obsessed with leaves falling from the trees), i fulfil my promise.
now i proudly pronounce our new site:
http://www.open-general.com/
it contains everything what we had on sf, and hopefully you can find much more things, like faq (i will upload them time to time) or opendat db
please don't stop finding glitches, improving its english, asking new features, sharing your thoughts, etc.

Re: the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
while working on the new forum, i've finally learnt an easy way to allow multiple viewing modes in the stylesheet of our website too. i really wanted to keep it simple (so there are no fancy js-controlled floating, swimming, pushing, etc. animated menus, boxes, sorry). i tested the result on my 5.0" phone, 9.6" tablet, and it's fine for me, i see something like these sceenshots (the db queries are wilder than the screen, of course, but can be scrolled):
anybody having smaller (=< 5") phone, would you check how the http://www.open-general.com / site looks like for you, please?
you can test this forum too, of course, but it has its own thread under the development board
(btw. forum and website are cross-linked now)
now i add a screenshot about unitpedia, as i promised earlier, but forgot later completely

Re: the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
it's a merely fyi "fun fact", there is nothing worrying about
i checked the protection of our site today (it's rock solid so far ), and i was curious from where the bad guys arrived trying to break-in. so i selected the top100 ip addresses (based on how many times they tried to break-in), and the result shocked me (ok, i know geo-ip is not fully reliable):

Re: the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
I'm rather weak with the technical issues, but they always say, that http is not as safe as https. Some browsers even don't want to cooperate with http.
And the adress of the forum seems to be http.
Am I correct?
Will it make any problems?

1. https is more secure, of courseBlitzstoper wrote: ↑2019-10-15 21:50, Tuesday I'm rather weak with the technical issues, but they always say, that http is not as safe as https.
2. if we were a webshop, we should you use https, but as we don't ask credit cards number or any personal information, it's not neccessary to use. the advantage for www site (where the installers and docs are stored) is absolutely zero, for the forum, well, it may be comforting for the users when they type their passwords
3. i checked the current prices, and it seeems there are cheap and simple ssl certifications for 8-9$ per year per subdomain (like "www" or "forum" before the "open-general.com"), and it's possible to buy only for one (the forum), then why not? in the past, the cheapest solution costed 40$, so i didn't think about it, but 9$ is worth to make the forum more trustable
4. HOWEVER! ssl certifications means only a 3rd party company verifies that we are we, and our server is legit, it will not stop the spambots or hackers attacking us, it's only pr and a good business for the certification providers

Re: the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
It's good to talk with someone clever than me. I didn't realized - and I should have - that it is not so important. I also didn't know, that it costs $$$
Thanks for clarification.
Also thanks for restoring me rank and my avatar. It's very nice to know, that someone remembered me

Please update heading and links!
http://www.open-general.com/documentation.php -> Overview -> leads to the Open General main page ( http://luis-guzman.com/OpenGeneral.html )
Here:
1) In heading "Current Official Version in installer is: 0.93.2.0" change in version 0.93.4.0
2) Remove the two links to JP's forum ( http://www.panzercentral.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=132 ) and replace them with new ones

Hello
I can not search for icons on the OG homepage icon database ( http://www.open-general.com/icon.php ) anymore.
Always get an error: network timeout. Anyone else has this problem?

Re: the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
I give a couple of random search and i had no problem. Give me what you search for and i check it. Maybe you need to clean your cache or delete cookies.
Re: the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
Thanks I just found out that i just have to klick on "try again" next to the error warning an then it works. I was confused at first because i never experienced that error before.

Re: the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
it works for me, though it's definitely slower, i should purge and tune the databaserandowe wrote: ↑2021-08-18 16:53, Wednesday Hello

Re: the OpenGen site: www.open-general.com
I think also back in 2019 there was the "Let's encrypt" organization giving away free certificates.lvjtn wrote: ↑2019-10-16 05:30, Wednesday 3. i checked the current prices, and it seeems there are cheap and simple ssl certifications for 8-9$ per year per subdomain (like "www" or "forum" before the "open-general.com"), and it's possible to buy only for one (the forum), then why not? in the past, the cheapest solution costed 40$, so i didn't think about it, but 9$ is worth to make the forum more trustable
The only downside is that it needs a script/bot to renew it every 3 months vs paid ones.
I think you should add it at least for the forum.
just my 2c
keep up the good work
