Playtest No 2: Allied Invasion of Italy

As i have said earlier, i'll take the chance to play this campaign again before the next version of the efile will be released. So i can check if everything is still "okay". I don't plan to make changes to any of the scenarios but surely there will be small "technical" adjustments
This campaigns difficulty is set somewhere between easy and medium.

Current scenario: Operation Corkscrew: Pantelleria

The players core and aux units appear in the first turns at the western map edge. The mission is to fight down the garrison of Pantelleria.
Fighting does not end when all VHs are captured but when the enemy garrison surrenders. That means the enemy untis that ar still alive in the "last" turn will be withdrawn from the battlefield. So a BV is mandatory.

Recently i was checking (again) the possibility of a short Brazilian WW2 campaign with about 5 scenarios about the Brazilian Expeditionary Force in Italy. But there is only one map that fits 100% and two other maps that show parts of the areas where the Brazilians were engaged. The two other maps are already part of this ALLIED INVASION OF ITALY campaign. Eventually i dismissed the idea of an all Brazilian campaign and added one scenario to the allied one. So there will be a new (small) 11th scenario in which the Brazilian core units are introduced to the player and no other units can be deployed. Beforehand the Brazilian core units were given to the player in the "old" 11th scenario, so i changed that scenario accordingly. Overall there will be 15 scenarios now.

Current scenario: Operation Husky: Gela

The player gets some free core units and i bought another fighter, a 5.5 artillery and a combat engineers unit.
After all units got deployed at sea i approached the beaches around Gela and made landfall in the north and east. Gela was captured quickly and few units got sent to the northwest in order to capture the nearby VH. Most of the units moved northwards in the center and met a german tank force which was fought down. The recon took the last VH/leader trigger.
Meanwhile all the ships and 3 ground units were fighting against bunkers and entrenched infantry in the southeast and captued some flags.

Current scenario: Operation Husky: Sicily

At HQ i bought three units which i want to test: A 40mm AD in ground combat mode. A new unit in the efile and one of the rare AD units that can attack all typs of targets. Then i want to test a Churchill AVRE tank. It has high soft attack but is very slow. Normaly i would not buy a tank that can move only 3 hex. Then i want to test the AT infantry with high HA and low SA. I already used one in the Kriegsmarine campaign and was pleased with its performance.

I deployed my units in the southeast of Sicily and moved northwards on a broad front.

Then both of my core fighters joined the fight. They attacked an enemy Bf 109. The predictions both showed a 4:4 and i thought my fighters could at least damage the enemy plane. Oh well,... the outcome was a combined 12:1 against me and the enemy fighter ace gained a leader My damaged fighters then flew to parking positions for the rest of the scenario... The P-38 only came out to kill 3 units with only 1 strength point left.

In the very east i could slow down because the VH is nearby. In the center i had to capture one VH and then my central battlegroup took the road through the mountains and attacked Palermo from the east. My western battlegroup made a speedy advance to the northwest and my ships sailed along the coast to the northwest as well. In the finale these units attacked Palermo from the west and south.

I had two battlegroups, one moved northwards along the coast of Sicily and one crossed the Stait of Messina, made landfall and move northwards on mainland italy. The core and auxiliary ships provided naval support fire and both coasts.
Disembarking of the naval transports was a little bit slow because of the enemy coastal guns and by the time i had disembarked all units, the fight was almost over. The flak MG fired just one shot after it made landfall... and missed.

The SPARTY picked up the leader (trigger) and became somewhat "mechanized" due to the recon movement leader

Current scenario: Operation Avalanche

I got a infantry proto. At HQ i bought a tank, a flak and a bomber.

After deployment at sea i approach the coast south of Salerno. The auxiliary units have already landed directly at Salerno and more aux units will land in the next turns. My core is divided into 2 groups. One is landing the the south and the other group is heading for Salerno to assist the aux units and prepare the attack on the most northern VH. The enemy launched small counterattacks, which all got repelled. Then i moved out the the various VHs and flags.

Current scenario: The Volturno Line

First bought two mortars and a fighter. Later i bought an AT gun as well.

Then i deployed my units south and east of the Volturno river. The eastern battlegroup moved to the northeast and later crossed the river in the very north at the map end. The other bridge in the north got destroyed by artillery fire...

The southern battlegroup crossed the river and then got divided into two smaller groups. One group operated in the southwest and the other group took the road up the north. The northern battlegroups then attacked the VH at Mignano from two directions.

I had a hard time against the german armor. There is no allied tank that can match the modern Panzer IV yet and only the 17pdr is able to make considerable damage on the enemy armor. I should have bought two 17pdr eariler...

Current scenario: Operation Shingle

I got a night fighter (all-weather) proto and bought another AT gun and a seabees construction unit with amphibious transport and fast builder attachment. This unit built two airfields, so i could deploy and refuel my planes.

The scenario starts when the landing at Anzio has jst started and i quickly disembarked all units in the first turns. Then they moved out to capture the VHs that mark the outer perimeter of the beachhead. In the second part of the scenario german forces are attacking from northern directions and from the east. All attacks got repelled and i was able to capture some (not all) flags.
Again i could destroy the german tanks only after consecutive attacks with combined arms.

Current scenario: Operation Diadem

Got a infantry proto and bought two range-2 tanks, which finaly are available. After deployment in the southeast and east i approached Monte Cassino slowly with one half of the units while the rest drove to the west. Few units took the way along the coast, assisted by the ships.
After some turns Monte Cassino was encircled but the paratroopers defended the mountain abby tenaciously and it took more turns to capture it.
So at this point of the scenario i had left some units to capture Monte Cassino while theother units were already close to capture the western and northern VHs. The scenario was quite easy and i shortened it by 2 turns after i had finished it.

Current scenario: Operation Brassard

This is a small commando-style scenario with limited deployment. The player can not deploy planes and is asked to deploy ships, infantry, infantry mortars and MGs only. Of course i'll follow my own orders
At HQ i upgraded one infantry into a HQ infantry and bought some attachments. Then i deployed my 3 ships, one mortar and 6 infantry units at sea south of Elba. The task is to cature the island, respectively the islands VHs.

So i approach the southern coast of Elba. The aux planes recon the island and i keep my naval transports out of range of the enemy guns.
Then i land at the southern shores and my units are dispersed arcoss the island soon and approach the various VHs.

Current scenario: The Smoking Snakes

This is a new scenario in which the 6 Brazilian core units are introduced to the player. Two armored auxiliary units will assist the player in this little scenario. It is also possible to deploy the core planes.
The task is simple, just move to the north and northwest along the valley of the Serchio river and capture the 3 VHs.
The hardest part was to kill the enemy flak which was defending the VH in the north(east). I used most of my planes to weaken the flak and some got hurt badly.

Current scenario: The Gothic Line

Got a SPAT proto and bought another bomber at HQ. Then i upgraded a tank and a fighter. Tweaked attachments.
The scenario was way too easy and i stopped after few turns and made it a little harder. Just a little bit.
After my second run i also shortened it by one turn.

Deployed my units in the south. Most of them in the center, the Brazialians and few others in the west. First i had to clear the area in the center of the map, then i entered the mountains. There is a lot of hilly terrain instead of mountains, so i was not bound to the streets. The map is not that big, so i could scout the whole battlefield with my planes and plan my moves on the ground. My new bomber instantly gained a recon movement leader

Current scenario: Operation Roast

This scenario is again some kind of special operation. The player is asked to deploy light units (infantry, MGs, mortars) only.
The mission is to clear the spit of land that divides the Comacchio lagoon from the Adriatic Sea from german units.

So i deployed my two mortars, MG, two HQ infantry units and some infantries in the south of the map. Then i just advanced northwards.
The mountain infantry was to slow and could hardly keep up with the other units. Should have bought a fast speed attachment

I was busy with efile, icons and maps this week, but now i finaly found the time to play the last scenario of this campaign:

Current scenario: Spring Offensive '45

I got a fighter proto and sold it. Then i bought an artilley and upgraded some infantry units. Tweaked attachments.

The task is to attack northwards into the Po Valley and capture Modena, Bologna and some other VHs. So i deployed my units in the south an moved them in several battlegroups along the roads out of the mountains. Once the terrain got clear i dispersed my units across the map.
