Been playing Genghis Khan II on my DosBox recently. One of the timeless classics.

since Radoye mentioned it - yes, was interesting but must praise you and all capable to not want to look at something like "Total war" series insted, loyalty or whatever - and as rounding on own words (and end here which doesn't mean maybe somewhere else i'll mention) i first read Tamerlane comments on battle some 20+ years ago and since then never had bad opinion about Mongols (or quasi-Mongols as his army). Re: What other games do you play ?
generally, not a bad idea giving Japanese games & devs some respect historically where it is due internationally... PG and series is good example, with most people giving all credits till today for "formula, gameplay and style" to SSI, while their devs themselves where explicit in stressing huge influence and borrowing from Jap "Daisenryaku" series... but i talked it in another place already. Other great non-gaming example is Kurosawa writing to Leone something to effect of "your movies are great but they are mine movies"
west is west, we are we historically (like or not both) but really i think i doesn't lack some respect to eastern Asian cultures, Japanese maybe the most in last circa 200 years (and do not start about wars, crimes and all))

Apart from my beloved Open General, these are the games that I usually enjoy:
-IL2 Sturmovik (The best experience on flying simulators).
-John Tiller Games (excellent stuff despite their poor graphics).
-Strategic Command (Perfect to play WW1 and WW2 under a grand strategy focus as the tittle says).
-AGEOD games from time to time.

Re: What other games do you play ?
thumbs up, Juankar. serious gamer there - most of us will agree that PG/2/3 is "lite" compared to some titles you use - so i comment in late hour after checking videos and titles ...just because there is a lot of unknown to me so worth sleeping till 11 on sunday and if i didn't check it now, maybe i never would
honestly, closest i got is Battleground serie in antic times and very few, content-light in recent times (grabbed some title "Drive on Moscow" and such, almost unintentionally). Not good at those things generally and feel like complexity is killing me, seen by some "relaxation" by comics like RPGs, but post is gold mine for collection maker and TBS searcher, thanks really

Re: What other games do you play ?
Well, PG2/OG are focused on a more tactical-operationall point of view, so any of the ones (except the ones by John Tiller) could be compared. Thanks to Luis and all the community making quantity and quality stuff over these years. The options, the level of complexity paired with an easy learning curve, the level of immersion, historical accuracy (with orders of battle, detailed maps etc) we get on Open General, it's deeper than other commercial competitors like Panzer Corps and the recently arrived Panzer Corps 2 (which I find very good games anyway). Well, forgot to mention Order of Battle WW2, but here I feel overwhelmed wit that 3D baroque design, adopted on many games with the aim to attract younger potentially customers.
Probably the handicap of OG could be the aged unit graphics, but I adopt personally here my aim to improve the game on this aspect, as my tiny contribution.
Forgot to mention above the ARMA3 first person shooters, they are perfect to play at a squad level, giving and receiving orders in a very realistic combat environmet. This kind of games are perfect to clear mind after a hard day at work.. The bad thing is the story focused on a close future instead of historical events, anyway there are mods out there...
All kind of wargames as you see, not interested on any other genre...

must say not considered PC 2 as option for now, for few reasons. positive word by you means a bit on how to look at it but still not priority
anyway, surely will not comment on every post by everybody though it's clear that i like reading gaming content, grateful for pointing something unknown again... but just for humor, no way that some of Ageod games could be compared to OG and previous versions, that just from some screens and videos concluded, be honest those are mama-games my memory on BG series alone is one of "why do you write that scen has 20 turns when it is around 120 with preparation fire, defensive fire, offensive fire, movement phase...etc". not denying fun factor in any of them, even as kid played some
in all honesty - and talked it already as well, guess there is some "had enough" factor with subjects and can't be surprised and completely satisfied with killing Polish tank, even Polish tank without any magical powers and not from distant solar system ....have fun, thanks for input as generally some of your favs do not gain much spotlight and notice, checking still "catalagoues" and will surely take something to test skills at least

Re: What other games do you play ?
Well I started with Allied General long time ago (last century) and sticked to SSI respectively its ingenious successor OG. Played Silent Hunter, Fighting Falcon and European Airwar when I was in Simulation mood.
Also played Strategic command and the much more sophisticated Hearts of Iron II to IV.
But there is nothing better than playing PG/OG against human opponents in PBEM.

Its a sort of game isn't it?

777 pieces, screen at 70% complete, already exceeding 50 hours.
Its a custom jigsaw, cut by the game from a picture from somewhere in the net.
Pictures originally available are actually of an "anatomically explicit nature", if you catch my drift...
But if we can have it cutting our own jigsaws why not try other themes?

Total War series - especially Empire Total War I've played tons of hours
combine turn-based strategy and resource management with real-time tactical control of battles

Re: What other games do you play ?
Shogun Total war - btw story - must be one of the latest games I bought before stopping following gaming market what i did as teen until some late year 2000 and that title... we had some specialised printed publications following games and computers in general through 90s although country seemed far from modern times. genearally so every time interesting strategy game was presented i was buying them, which wasn'rt easy but had some strategy collection. Around year 2000 i stopped and it lasted until some 5 years ago, now i again check interesting (or personally acceptable) titles, though not constantly. Back to Shogun - in times i tried it 20 years ago i'd never guess in what kind of monster series would it evolve, didn't even like first title then that much... already talked about my "troubles" and distaste for real time battles.... beside mechanics also disliked fact that they lacked troops progression in games with campaign structure (not TW series)... but again to main comment idea, who would say how far would "Total war" go, interesting personal gaming story....
so... something else since i'm in here and i'm "obligated" to say - due to kindness of some persons I was able to try some games from Ukrainian designers I mentioned in other place in comical fashion (Panzer strategy, Strategic mind) and can say that they are not so bad and might be interesting for any of us, lovers of "PG/Daisenryaku theme", even though i said to Juankar i "had enough"... though not satisfied with content for a price + i couldn't care less for gigabites of Hitler and OKW animations + they are more "bomber strategy" than ground troops strategy and buggy etc. etc. but generally not junk and had some strategic challenge for me ) if anyone ever think about them for lower price (or no at all))

I was never attracted on anything other than Rome Total War and Medieval Total War 2. Those I played extensively, but the rest seemed to me sacrificed on the altar of graphics when it comes to immersion and gameplay.Golothin wrote: ↑2020-10-07 18:55, Wednesday Total War series - especially Empire Total War I've played tons of hours

Yes, like these, or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBxdTkddHaE
Anyway, elsewhere on the forums i announced a new Let's Play thread.
The game i choosed is Jagged Alliance 2 with (almost) up-to-date mods . It is a turn-based game which offers lots of other stuff - i won't go into detail but straight for the problem.
The game immerses around all the decisions one can make ("unit" decisions/assignments, inventory management, actual combat, etc). However, while watching actual LP videos to save me some time on testing out features, i realized that writing up all that decisions would create a freakload of Wall Of Texts which would annoy everyone to death. In short, i am struggling to figure out how to present the game.
I could do a frequent summary of "what happened the past X days/hours of ingame time", and maybe add a few important screenshots to each posting - that is "global screenshots" like introductory stuff and the world map (putting together character attribute or item changes into screenshots would blow the thread, just like writing up AARs for the 100-200 battles - probably more).
However, as said, the game's actual immersion wouldn't be captured via this method
Anyone interested ?
Re: What other games do you play ?
Yeah, keep the texts short and add some screenshots. Your Codename Panzer threads were just, i'm sorry, but: tl;dr...
I have JA2 on my laptop too and i use some mods that add more of everything too. More mercenary traits, more weapons...
I'd recommend to start with some basic screenshots like the map, and your mercs. Then there is the inventory and weapons which is very interesting.
Show some interesting or funny battle screenshots, but it is not necessary to explain everything in detail as you will fight many many battles.
When the basics are explained in text and screenshots, just go on and post every now and then about the most interesting events or sectors you captured, free mercs joining your team and stuff like that.
You can also show the progress of your "own" merc and how he/she evolves throughout the game... gets some strength points, marksmanship points etc...
JA2 is cetainly one of the best games ever and i am looking forward to read/see your Let's Play

Goodie
Shall i:
- do a listing of "game basics" (like "CTH depends on ATTRIBUTES and OCTH/NCTH etc" ) or just list mod features, or just list "i decided to have features X+Y active but turn off A+B"
- also list (some important) ini changes i made
?
I guess some of that stuff could be interesting for players, but explaining those could lead to a Wall Of Text (at the thread start only, but still).

I can't even ask that question about own interest, medieval murders and love stories so i answered your question out of courtesy, no constructive propostition on how you do it... guess one of periods when other interests ocuppy me, have fun Mytho!

It's just my personal opinion, but i'd like to read a interesting and fun story about your mercs and the gameplay and not so much about technical details and ini tweakingmythos wrote: ↑2021-01-05 18:09, Tuesday Goodie

Re: What other games do you play ?
Yes, the initial learning curve can be a little steep (especially with the newer "v1.13" mod which introduced dozens of new features).
I try and see if/how i can include some strategy and stuff.
I still have Vampire: The Masqerade flying around somewhere - that was "medieval murders and love story" times 2
Thanks Ale
Sort of a Role-Playing Game-Log ? "Today we 'safely' arrived but, man ! That pilot sure was trying to get us to our graves"
I'm crazy enough to do this, but i'm afraid i wouldn't manage to keep up the writing style till the end. We'll see
Re: What other games do you play ?
"Man, the pilot was flying so low, i had to look up to see the squirrels"
With fun stories i meant the most interesting events or tactis you used. Maybe i used the wrong word
You know in the original game it was possible to hide behind a wall and wait for the enemy come around the corner one by one... That's not possible anymore with 1.13
I am also using the 1.13 mod, paired with Urban Chaos. One of my 6 "own" mercs was always some kind of Ninja with good agility and night vision, stealth, hand combat and melee characteristics. It was fun to sneak around at night
Have to give it another go one day...

Re: What other games do you play ?
Yea, the game's dialogues are probably the best part of it
Thus i needed a couple weeks now to dig through all the stuff the modders built into the mod the past years
Night Ops AEs/IMPs ( "own" mercs) sure are the stuff of legends. I cannot even name my favourite... the knife thrower or pistolero or martial artist or as you said a ninja - 1.13 even added spies to the mix and there might be some i forgot. There are a lot of options to heat up the night
Though i have to confess that at some point i started prefering daytime combat - the sight ranges are very short at night and with 1.13's higher number of enemy soldiers: if things go wrong they tend to go really wrong very fast
I think i never created more than 4 IMPs for a single campaign. I like the little chit-chat some of the mercs are doing, like Spider starting to hate Buns or (was it) Gus (?) complimenting Biff - though i sure prefer if everyone goes along well with each other and you miss out on that when you pick a larger amount of IMPs.
Indeed i thought about playing Urban Chaos or Deidranna Lives, but as it has been a while since the last time i completed the game and because i want to see "in length" how some of the new features work, without having to worry about new quest and faction alignments, i will just add an item mod.
I am currently going through settings a last time and then go over to the team selection (as said, i rather like to see buddies than mud-fights) - i should start playing this week
No, all good - just the usual "babylonic language confusion" of international forums
The last time i played 1.13 was r4870, thus some time in 2015. I tried getting back to it a couple times, waiting for a new "stable release" with tested features and balanced settings, but since that never materialized...

Re: What other games do you play ?
My installation is quite old and i always feared, that it will stop working when i change something or i never get it to work again when i reinstall the whole thing. Actually it is pretty stable but later in the game i sometimes experienced crashes to desktop or black screen which sometimes ended the game because i could no got past them. But at that stage of the game i usually was perfectly equiped and my soldiers were war machines and i didn't mind the crashes much and just stopped playing. But it's been a while since i played the game the last time. Maybe i give it a try once you finished your Let's Play.
I always prefered night time combat. Especially at the beginning of the game when your soldiers have a hard time hitting anything with their broken pistols.
Later when you you have a good sniper or two and have the best guns from Bobby Ray's, you can shoot across the whole map and daylight is not a problem anymore.
Also, with night visions scopes you'll have a hugh advantage...
Since i play the mod(s) i always create a full squad of 6 IMP. I try to create unique charakters, so not all of them are walking around with assault rifles.
- I usualy have one teamleader with assault rife. He has lots of strength so he can carry a lot of gear and throw grenades over a great distance.
- Then i have a female ninja with great agility and dexterity, stealth and good meele, small arms and martial arts traits. She uses silenced SMGs and knifes, swords and throwing knifes.
- Then i have a female sniper with a powerful sniper rifle and a small gun for close combat. I love the AKMSU
- There is also a technican who can open every door and repairs all the gear and stuff. He carries an assualt gun.
- A bombardier handles explosives and bazookas and grenade or rocket launchers to destroy the enemy tanks which you face later in the game.
- the 6th spot is either occupied by a doctor or a scout... or something of both
... but yeah, of course there is some diffecene every time i play the game...
But one thing is for sure, i never ever hire any mercs from AIM. I like the company of the free mercs you meet along the way like the ice-cream-truck driver (or postal-truck-driver in the mod)
But i guess we can talk about all of this once you started playing

Same for me, however:randowe wrote: ↑2021-01-07 00:39, Thursday My installation is quite old and i always feared, that it will stop working when i change something or i never get it to work again when i reinstall the whole thing. I save every now and then in different slots - the suggestion is that once a crash happens, go back 1-2-3 saves, do something different like pick a different travelling route or talk to a merchant/named NPC or such (especially: if the crash occured during defense of a sector, load that sector (go into tactical map) before the fight). Often this prevents the later bug.
The game now has 5 auto-save slots, saving every 12 hours (once the 5th slot is full it cycles back to the first), thus helping in the matter.
Also, restarting the game every 3-4-5 hours shall help.
A different thing, i had the impression that the JA2.ini (screen resolutions) is a little buggy. Example, i had flashes of Windows UI into the game (like the clock in the lower right corner) and the GUI/Font looked a little screwed in resolution 1280*1024, as if this was a wrong resolution for my monitor. After changing the game resolution to 1280*768 these grafical glitches disappeared - mind you, i don't have a widescreen monitor
I guess i will add a "game basics and superstitions" section to clear some things uprandowe wrote: ↑2021-01-07 00:39, Thursday Especially at the beginning of the game when your soldiers have a hard time hitting anything with their broken pistols.

When i play with only 1 IMP (plus Ira and later Miguel) and the rest hired from AIM + MERC, it takes a long while until i can finance orders from Bobby Ray's - but i prefer "living of the land" playstyle anyway
Well, to clear it up: i prefer NCTH over OCTH, because the latter puts a lot of emphasis on scopes and long range combat (and snipers) - all of which is hard to come by for a while (unless "drop all" is active) - while NCTH is more about mid-range combat (and auto weapons / MGs). Though you do need a couple more characters for NCTH (like: 1-2 ammo carriers).
That's a matter of preference of course but it does change what characters one likes to bring along and how to resolve combat.
I am currently leaning towards the 6 IMP approach as well - just i always have a hard time to create "truely" unique characters: i am a "min-maxer", i don't like too much micromanagement (which means: bring too many mercs along and handle their actions and inventories), thus my IMPs tend to become highly "streamlined" to their roles. Maybe i should pick OCTH for this first playthrough after such a long time, but i'm afraid i remember better how to play under NCTH
Whoopsy...you are right, i should have created a discussion thread by now

Old Chance To Hit
New Chance To Hit
2 exclusive CTH systems. OCTH is closer to vanilla gameplay with its long range combat, while NCTH added/reworked several factors (like bullet drop and overall accuracy) creating a different CTH model - generally favouring mid range combat.
Some people prefer the old, some the new system.

I usualy act very cautious and spend a lot of time in real time mode to wait and sneak around and cover all directions with my soldiers waiting behind corners while the others approach the enemy. I often just click my turns away to wait until real time mode to maneuver the mercs.
In combat i usualy use all aim-klicks available. Unless i need to keep some actions-points to run away or so...
My Ninja tries to approach the enemy from behind and punches them down to the ground. Then they are unconscious and can't move in their turn. But that works at night time only. If i can not get to the enemy the Ninja uses throwing knifes which the enemy never take notice off.
But yeah, it's just for fun to play like this...
Btw, do you train your mercs by exploiting some "features"? Like punching all the cows on every farm or operating dozens of broken and jammed guns. Carry a lot of weight into the next sector and abort the travel, then let them travel again, abort, travel... ?

Re: What other games do you play ?
Today, after a pause of many years, i played my favorite 3D-Shooter online again. The game is called Vietcong and aims to be a very realistic 3D-Shooter about the Vietnam War.
"Game Spy", providing the ingame server list went down years ago and then the game and community was almost dead, but yesterday i discovered a website with direct connect informations to online servers and i tried it out. And what can i say? I still remember everything about the game, tactics and every single map After so many years i still know every hideout and secret place

Far from much worry about realism, and in the example played in a completely out of context map.
The Enemy Territory Vietnam mod was the only vietnamish thing I ever played online.
Solo campaign I played one or two dedicated titles but none I can still remember the name.
Re: What other games do you play ?
This past weekend i discovered a forum dedicated to modding one of my old favorites - Star Trek: Birth of the Federation, where they released an unofficial patch that makes the game compatible with modern operating systems. Somehow the weekend just flew by
Re: What other games do you play ?
I must add to my post that Vietcong is from 2003/04 and i guess it is as realistic as they could design in 18 years ago. But still, you have to take the gun up and use the iron sights to hit anything. Of course online it is often more like "spray and pray" tactics
Star Trek: Birth of the Federation looks interesting and it is up for grabs at myabandonware so i might give it a try

Order of Battle WW2...
This game I have for about a year and never touched it until 2 days ago. And I cannot play anything else...
It has been a long time since I encountered a panzer general remake which is this good. I might start a thread about it.
Started with Kriegsmarine campaign and I am at scenario 6 (Op. Torch).
I also started today a campaign with Japan in China (at scenario 2 for now).

Great game, definitely feels like old 5 stars titles but its also definitely different.
Its an opinion, of course.
To me it felt more or less the same in terms of appeal.
But without over strength, a different way of working with some classes (Artillery, AT), maybe above all the core management and in particular the Command Points system.

...liked to spend some time with WH themes since 90s, must say did not try Gladius yet, thanks for mentioning/recommending. Might be demanding for by desktop comp not best of tech ; but doable at decreased settings... like to look at newer titles also myself.
among those installed on comp i have Caesar 2 and Xenonauts... first installed last year for nostalgic reasons to hear that legendary but irritating "need more plebs!" line not for much play, and Xenos played last time more than year ago. anyway, since posted i'm doing lots of fantasy and medieval things lately but less last months. And some cartoonish Rpgs... nothing new completed to recommend, last game i fully finished last year is some 15 years old title "Fantasy wars", got it almost free, hex battles, 3 ten scens long camps and only one of them gave some headache with some reloads at normal settings... moderately fun and cheap if you into subjects appropriate for my age

Re: What other games do you play ?
You mean Warhammer Fantasy inspired turn based strategy game? I wanted to play that but the campaign options were less. Maybe i will try that. Also you should also try Gladius, it's more like Civ but without diplomacy and Gladius' multiplayer is enjoyable. At first I did not want this game to be bought but after I bought this, I like this game, especially the multiplayer. About Xenonauts you should download XXP Expansion pack on Steam Workshop. It's a overhaul mod for Xenonauts, adds more units, weapons , vehicles and new enemies, and better ai. Or you should wait for the sequel. If my Computer was better, I would play X-com 2 instead of that . Anyway, at least i can play with low quality graphics. Until I buy a new computer, unfortunately I will handle with that.Ale wrote: ↑2021-03-21 14:07, Sunday ...liked to spend some time with WH themes since 90s, must say did not try Gladius yet, thanks for mentioning/recommending. Re: What other games do you play ?
No! it's not WH fantasy theme based game, just mentioned it BTW as last I finished - not from that universe so do not get it if looking for their stories.. just pure, but fun, game with low content though based more on old SSI "Fantasy general" ideas. Proper warning not to be said that I mentioned it in relation to your post and subject, so it's more like "King bounty" than WH related...
looked at Gladius pages right after your post, it is must try yes, I agree much time with Xenonauts is probably "not priority" now (i think i have some mods since few years), with sequel close and so many fun options, but game is good with mods even better...
about comp - it's not only economy - I'm 40+ and not investing much trying to catch all those new games last one which worked decently in that sense and new graphic style is recent Fanatsy general 2, but experienced need for lower resolution, less details etc. as you know. good thing is that there are really lots of old games, or even new but 2d, to compensate for lack of "beast machine"..... thanks for Gladius again, almost would miss it, have fun. (any x-com was personally good, X-com 2 as well from my point so try definitely once...)

Re: What other games do you play ?
I tried Xenonauts some time ago. It was nice but it just doesn't have the same vibe old X-coms used to have.
Otoh, ET: Extraterrestrials is a remake & side sequel of X-Com 1. It has no connection with other remakes but it has the same feeling of X-Com, with some improvement.
Back to previous post OoB... I finished the campaign with Kriegsmarine. Very good approach, the game is entertaining, but it lacks the depth of PG2 or even Pacific General equipment and some of rules of the engine are odd to say the least.
Now I am playing the Morning Sun campaign, Japan v China. On third scenario, Shanghai...

Re: What other games do you play ?
more for talk, another post and fun than out of some necessity ;
anyway humor aside, there is enough confusion with titles from series and of that universe, there are those from 90s, 3 x A UFO titles, 3d x-coms, this one, some open source UFOs, Xenonauts etc. etc. so correcting that line is also for clarity ; ...must say, unlike "3 A UFO" (as i call them) i missed this one and this evening looking to complete some titles, together with that UFO: Alien invasion open source project, which sadly died some years ago*, but will look at it... thanks for mentioning.
confusion is as big to me not following everything gaming related in last 20 years, almost as big as with Warhammer titles and Total war ones, or NFS (who likes driving sims) etc.
...as for film I watched it in cinema back in something looking like ancient times, as under 5 kid and it was some impression at that age and something unforgettable...
* so - welcome to talk about other games if you wish like i like to do and will continue to do, but don't forget to try and support (non material, you can just join forums)) OG project, Luis and other responsible for games this forum is dominated by... if you like other games or "hobbies", welcome as well
our pal REDrake here meant UFO: Extraterrestrials, of course not Speilberg classic movie ; .... becaaause, if you kill ET: Extraterrestrial you would make many kids and adults alike around the world very sad and angry ...and that is exactly what is required from you in UFO: ET and other titles of its sortOtoh, ET: Extraterrestrials is a remake & side sequel of X-Com 1. ...more for another post than belief that it's for probable age and interest of publics here, but you never know and why not
recently finished this game [url]https://www.bloodwillbespilled.com/[url] and do some platformers generally, testing own finger speed/reaction and skills after amny years (never played them even before)... had fun with it, turn based gunfights and platformer combo. Battles were OK and easy winnable (aim for the head) but had frustration moments with platforming part of the game especially with "defuse dynamites from the bridge mission" almost breaking monitor after 10-15 unsucessful tries and running out of time... managed in last second in final try and finished this ; ... nothing serious, maybe for kids, but if you ever feel easy minded, childish and bored (and get it cheap) wasn't bad fun for few weeks, depending of play minutes...
also doing now game Zombotron (on steam), another fun action/platformer 2d game but without anything turn based there and needing fast and good aim and speed in movement ;
have fun whatever you play, this is of course passable but not bad simple fun, who looks for that sometimes... Slovak and Russian games btw with no replay value like many platformers, but just coincidence that they are both EE made games...
....might come back to own gaming thread for some reviews maybe, as some sort of presence here but maybe ;

Re: What other games do you play ?
My wife bought Wingspan few months ago, and it's a blast. It's everything I ever wanted from Magic the Gathering (cool combos, nice art, easy gameplay, etc.) without most of its negatives (like stress, being a money sink, etc.)
I definitely recommend this game, be it tabletop or electronic.

...more for breaking silence than any forum need since i checked this thread for some recommendations, another post...
regarding my last post about "retrying" some new platformers and arcades after some 30 years of not even trying must say though their pure fun value and need not to use much of brain (usually) i am hopeless at them, wasn't good 30 years ago now probably even worse... safe to say that except maybe some rare racing game anything needing "fast fingers" and good coordination between them is not for me despite my wish and liking of graphics style... couldn't beat even one of first bosses in action-platformer game i mentioned (for now)
anyway, getting some newer and older titles periodically plus trying to look at what's in the making but rarely dive deep even if i get something (with few exceptions i wish to go deeper into). So i got few titles recently and finally old Fantasy gen. strangely enough i think i never finished that in the 90s, strangely too original PG and PG2 was able to do relatively easy even on hardest levels as kid practically... so i started campaign at medium as knight-marshal dude and reloaded as soon as after 3-4 battles probably toughest from 90s general series, but not for military history disciples ;
also got Warhammer game our friend above mentioned, few newer titles with cartoonish style i like recently as graphical style (sign of mental debilization as getting older?? just joking)) - Urtuk game, Wyldermyth game, Battle brothers, Banners of ruin and few others i didn't even start for now, mostly TBS...(in deals i'm not some spender)) you are free to pirate them if poor as well. so that's what i'm doing beside some OG and alien killing and por...political ones (for wife/ves) - sincirely doubt i'll have time for even "scratching" them properly, maybe someone will like something. Have fun nonetheless whatever you do and feel free to recommend something if new or game collectionist.... might come back periodically + life is hard in our US candidate )

Hello, i have playd maybe some hundred videogames during the last 25 years but almost all are removed from my pc , except Peoples general and Fantasy General from SSI. I have playd Duke Falcons Remake of the game FG and other Remakes. Now i have started the original FG againe and its the same great fun like 20 years before. Glad we had the days of SSI !

Re: What other games do you play ?
too bad you did it, you would be perfect than to give some recommendations but you are probably right, there are so many fun games outhere and life is short and sometimes sh*tty, sadly... only fast look at 19 titles mentioned in this article i got as first list via google https://www.pcgamesn.com/best-turn-based-strategy-games shows me that i have only 3 out of 19 for now including free game "wesnoth", solid fun if any reader never tried it, since i mentioned. but not as many mods as OG ;
personally never played almost any PeopleG see that you had great modding material once - anyway, have fun with FG, me also really want to finish it but it may take year/s as camp is very large ; (looked at some old walkthrough maps not to miss hero locations when chosing battles)... also great nostalgic feel after starting it, something rarely felt so deeply when i try older titles. Music theme is also used in recent FG 2 - and to finish with that, while many people do not like "3d" here i played it some time made great advance and than after some 20 scens I realized I upgraded my units wrong and bahhhhhh... Hope i want give it another try 25 years later i.e. around 2045, no time for that ...as i type plan to waste 1-2 hours on some of new titles i mentioned in above post but realistically what is an hour or two... have fun all.

Re: What other games do you play ?
not answer to "what other games you play" because huge majority i never touched ) more for fun lets look at TBS list site above posted, totally unimportant and it was first answer on google as I said... of course i disagree and it is more for "newer generations", there are games from 90s or early 2000s much better than some there - personally think that even "never popular" PG3 from SSI is better than some titles here not to mention some HoMM style games or King bounty style, even low content and cheap Fantasy wars i mentioned is recommended etc. etc... but again for fun on this forum, used this rainy saturday for reading and looking at videos of titles on their (unimportant and subjective) list for eventual collection entries... i have 4 only, if you like some of mentioned and dislike my comment, don't mind that's just my impressions... have fun, forum doesn't have much daily/weekly content anyway so any entry on any thread is welcome as is you, dear reader if you join - always remember this is in central part OG forum - can't talk much about "our forum games" anymore, looking at same screens for 30 years can be depressive and like "Groundhog day" film, same apropos same sport teams, movies or anything from "entertainment" branch.... enough talking, my "reviews" of some list
Gears Tactics: looks too hardware demanding for my older machine, maybe not bad game
Panzer Corps 2: plan to have it once, but really what's so important difference compared to "our" games so not first wish
Unity of Command 2: have this one, a bit demanding and "complex" without playing much myself, puzzles and unclear how to play effective, personally
BattleTech: looks decent and concept is fun... dislike many cinematics and size in any game. think i like what and how it offers with chosing battles yourself
Battle Brothers: have it, hardware undemanding. bit disappointed after just little time, too hard sometimes and not what i expected but have some fun factor
Wargroove: good old Japanese style, looks simple and fun. one also have to respect fact that Japanese games influenced PG and PC and all
Frozen Synapse 2: looks complex and puzzle solving more than else, doubt it is for me
Warhammer 40,000 Battlesector: looks alright though, i like WK style and games, but nothing new here and not much content
The Battle for Wesnoth: well, i already mentioned it, free and OK although sometimes hard to me in few camps i tried
XCOM 2 War of the Chosen: i have this also, from few years back. fan of series and theme. but too cinematics heavy and in size, one can have fun with 2d titles with same theme. have it only because i like all games of the type
Möbius Front ‘83: looks hardware undemanding, but sadly also hard and puzzle-like not free tactics and upgrade style like our known games
Space Hulk Tactics: again WK and again something more chess and puzzle like, but fan of subgenre as said
Phoenix Point: looks alright, X-com/UFO clone and i like that people say that it runs smoother on weaker machines
Corruption 2029: hw demanding, but looks fun and simple for change (and "Mutant year zero" from them)
Six Ages Ride like the Wind: text based, not for me
Crying Suns: looks alright, but no much battles and strategy
Narcos Rise of the Cartels: no idea how this made it to the list of any "best of", people say you put "squad" but you can move and use only one unit per turn and finish whole game with one. ridiculous and avoidable, i really liked idea of killing some violent bandits instead of far away aliens which never did much harm to anyone, yet gaming and film industries picture them as evil
Invisible Inc: looks hard and puzzle like, don't doubt quality design but questionable is for me...
Into the Breach: this game is on many lists, looked fun and simple but sadly also hard and puzzle like, not fun battles I demand...

Re: What other games do you play ?
Its strange and funny how history repeat itselfs. I have reached the 3. Continent and stuck in the same way as 20 years before. From here the scenarios become verry long and hard even though i play on the easyst level. So i will stop againe ( maybe for 20 years againe ).Ale wrote: ↑2021-10-05 14:37, Tuesday
personally never played almost any PeopleG see that you had great modding material once - anyway, have fun with FG, me also really want to finish it but it may take year/s as camp is very large ; (looked at some old walkthrough maps not to miss hero locations when chosing battles)... also great nostalgic feel after starting it, something rarely felt so deeply when i try older titles.
I must confess i dont have the time anymore to try a scenario hours and hours againe to win.
So after 30 years of videogaming Peoples general is the only game what is left to play for me. But i hope this will be a livelong relation.
Have fun everyone !

Re: What other games do you play ?
how about this strategic situation?
but do not worry - I have grenades, they don't! (i think) playing "Arma Tactics" game as we speak, so decided to say hello 2013 tbs, squad battles with 4 team members. Much worse than many of the type, totally not good, bad mechanics and camera, uninteresting, low content etc. but got it almost free (1-2 euro). gift really. It's 3d, but undemanding for my machine, runs fast + i had to reload some scens, this is my second try of pictured ; Too bad newer games had to move way past this hardware demand, becoming unplayable sometimes for me this is detailed enough if it had to be 3d at all, but for newer generations "bad graphics" ;
have fun, just btw post, if you can get it for free, maybe you will kill few hours with it but OG much better

Re: What other games do you play ?
so Darkest Dungeon 2 went out in "incomplete" form.... have first one few years, rarely can play much but must say probably the game(s) with gameplay, atmosphere and artstyle which impressed me the most in whole life. Well done to makers for managing that in such simple form and simple (but hard) game...
second part is good example of how you don't need to change much - sadly hardware needs don't count while important - but you change enough to have new-old game which just looks and plays fun... now your heroes are driving "lovely" stagecoach (driving simulation as mini game) through "lovely" scenery, you chose own path and is very different... thumbs up. As said not for military history people around, but for any average gamer/reader (and any of you if you even lightly into such things) my warmest recommendation on that games. personally love both (second still to try) - too bad had no time to play enough...
