i played the first scenario twice with predefined tank leader and with an edited tank leader too (it was also good for practicing a bit ) it seems the first option is the rule, so i continue this run

1. sesena - ltbv (held 3 vhs) +1 leader (mtc not counted) + arty proto

after killing the the first falangist inf, Kapitan Kris returned to south-east, the recon (with the help of my airforce) took the western cities, the tank supported by hq inf eliminated the nationalist counterattack

got a nice arty proto, used elite replacement for the tank, green for the recon, and purchased the recommended stuffs

hi Björn! i strongly doubt it. the new talents like Para, Clemens, etc. are very good players, and my skills are rusty. but it's so much fun to play an lxf campaign with ai 3.0 as an unofficial cc, so i couldn't resist the temptation

3. khalkhin gol - ltbv

i completely ignored the losses (the prestige is very friendly at 75%), and focused on creating the best positions for the at the end, my core suffered significant losses, but my tactics worked and the beast ruled the battlefield in the north

used green replacements for everything except Kapitan Kris' tank, and purchased the recommended units (cheap recon tb, medium arty, best recon and another cavalry)

4. grodno - ltbv +1 tank proto (sold)

the new rcn took the north-western vh, a temporal para (with the help of my airforce) dealt with the south-eastern vh, and the red beast tank led the attack against grodno and overran almost everything there. once again, i ignored the losses, it seems to be an expensive tactics, but after all, the soviet high command is interested in the results, not in the costs!

so i had to sell the proto tank to finance my spendings: purchased the recommended 2nd fighter, os-ed fully Kapitan Kris' brigade, and upgraded the 2nd arty

advanced slowly to keep my guns fully surrounded. it meant i couldn't use the red beast tank as much as i wanted, but i can't complain, it was a very effective spearhead of my core

6. vyborg - ltbv +1 leader and a tank proto (sold)

ok, i restarted the scenario immediately and upgraded two cav to para instead of purchasing a temporal arty. these vdv guys flew to the south-west and helped to clear the city around bv-2. the red beast operated in the north, but later could kill lots of inf on the western bank of the bay, while the slow units advanced in the middle of the map. a few inexperienced core took the southern vhs

after selling the proto, i had enough pp to upgrade both tanks and fighters. let's see what can i do during the next mission...

7. bialystok-minsk - ltbv (10 units escaped) 1-1 temporal inf and rcn

that was a huge pain in the ass. not because it was hard, i found a very good tactics to win, but it was soooooooo slow, i hardly could wait the allied p-3 a.i. to move, and it usually did terrible job (maybe the last official version is a too old exe for a.i. v3.0 ), i had to reload last autosave (after gt-5) 4-5 times to win in gt-6. sometimes p-3 a.i. moved enough units to win before i could play my 6th turn, sometimes it completely refused to escape and refit its units around the minsk vh, 3-4 hexes away from two empty eh finally a.i. "understood" what i wanted, and escaped one and only one unit letting me win in gt-6

the battle south of białystok - minsk road was especially boring: the germans succesfully blocked p-3 a.i. which never reached the escaping zone there. i played this scenario for 4-5 hours at least fortunately today is a national holiday in hungary, so i haven't give it up

so what was the winning tactics? here you are:

1. restarted the hq session, sold the proto and cannibalized my core: sold the 2nd recon, 2nd ftr, and recon tb
2. purchased a big aa gun to protect my fighting core in białystok
3. purchased 7 cheap and fast rcn + 1 cheap and fast inf (hadn't enough pp for the 8th fai recon car) they, and one embarked para went/flew to minsk asap
4. upgraded the red beast to a t-34 and the second tank with 3 bars to a combat support tank
5. spent the in-scenario prestige to buy more and more guns and refit my damaged units around białystok whenever i had to
6. i also purchased 1-1 cheapest inf and recon inf at the end of the scenario to use as baits for the 21 cm german mörser. the beasts had to be fed
7. my big guns hunted for the german guns and Kap. Kris launched minor counterattacks then returned to the turtle defence formation

after all, this tactics worked, the białystok vh and its airfield held on, but now i had to repurchased the sold units with only 35 exp point i hope they can catch up experiense soon, and i never have to use this tactics again

well, it's possible, that was the most important point. the extra 15 kills is only the ice on the cake

8. yelnya - ltbv

when i saw the battlefield, i was worried about my small and inexperienced core, so i chose the simplest "brute force" tactics: deployed the best and strongest units (including the hq tank, the red beast, two guns, leadered recon) at the north-western region, the rest operated in the south-west. my "elite" battlegroup rushed to the center of the map, but i took the central airfield in gt-5 only, while auxes couldn't launch a frontal assault as the entrenched german vhs were well defended. fortunately, after clearing the western-central region, german defense became disorganised, some units started to retreat, so i could took 4 vhs in the last bv turn

aroung gt-3 luftwaffe sent its strongest bombers, so i was lucky my fighters covered core guns, and the german bombers attacked the aux guns. i purchased 1-1 temporal ftr and recon tb

after the scenario i purchased the recommended 4th arty and had enough pp to use mostly elite replacement

the shortage of the prestige can be a problem very soon, i barely can purchase the recommended core with frequently upgrading + reos-ing the but the party of the soviet workers and peasants wants to give Kapitan Kris' brigade the best available equipment : thud i also couldn't resist and upgraded my fighters to decent british l&l planes. fortunately, the guard inf is cheap and has very good stats, so i downgraded my inf

10. 2nd kharkov - ltbv (killed 65 units) +2 leaders

the new t-34/76b with its +2 ha was worth for every kopeyka it costed. supported by the "commissar tank", it became a true killer machine (well, at least i think that until i see Para's stats )

as the north-eastern deployment worked well so far, i deployed the red beast the same location again. after clearing the bridgehead, it turned to south and west, and helped to take the airfield. then the german counterattack killed 5+ auxes, so i changed my stance and defended the airfield and it perimeters. it was a hunting season for Kapitan Kris' brigade. Luftwaffe gave me some headache, so i purchased a temporal fighter, and the aux aa gun could intercepted a german bomber too

finally picked up new leaders, though only on inf

edit: the new airacobra is an excellent fighter at this stage of the war

11 voronezh - ltbv + 3 leaders and aa proto (sold)

deployed the stronger half of my core at north, weaker one at south, only auxes defended the central region between the rivers. till the 6th turn, everything went smoothly, my big guns defended my core, the red beast counterattacked frequently, my planes and flaks slowly evaporated the german air superiority. from 6th to 9th turns there were 3-4 challenging turns, when the long range german guns arrived and started to decimated my defending troops, even a few core guns damaged badly. but i held on, and during the last two turns, i could launch a limited counterattack in the north and pushed back the wehrmacht by 2-3 hexes (which sounds a small success until you play this scenario )

however, my total losses were high, especially my fighters bled out, and i had to refit a few weaker core units in the south. again, i barely had enough pp to refit my core w/o losing exp, and i had to forget upgrading anything that was a pyrrhic victory, but Kapitan Kris is a (inter)national hero of the communist party, the komsomolskaya pravda wrote a long article about his brigade, how they could improve their killing records by x% after reading the great stalin's latest instructions, so i had no choice but let this brigade to be a hero again, no matter of the costs

it was a nice, easy-peasy intermission, unfortunately my beast ran out of the ammo during the last turn, so i missed 3-4 more kills

i followed Björn's map, i don't think there would be too much other winning tactics possible

i purchased a couple of cheap temporal recon planes as it were lots of snowy turns when i spotted so few hexes

after the scenario i decided to sell / not buy 3rd recon and 3rd tb, and upgraded both experienced recons, at guns and the leadered fighter instead. let's face kharkov again!

13. 3rd kharkov - ltbv (held 6 vhs) + range-2 tank proto

first of all, i had to reload the last turn 8-9 times to get a bv, and it was absolutely irrelevant, as the problem was retaking zmiev at 26,16 in the east, while my operated in the south. as you can see my screenshot: ihad lots of units there, planes, guns, etc, and fortunately my airforce blocked the resupply of the german guns while it snowed, so i could clear the perimeters of this 6th vh, but the entrenched inf was a hard nut to crack, i could do it with only that much reloads

holding my lines (worst position is the blue line on my screenshot) wasn't a problem at all, though germans had lots of range-2 units, they were mostly low-ammo stugs and marders, which could be easily knocked out when they went out of ammo, and i had plenty of auxes to sacrifice. i also used my two combat support units heavily (one in the west, one in the east), and around gt-7, i launched my counterattack. Kap. Kris' brigade bypassed the front, and overran the german guns and flaks behind the lines easily (again: after making most of them out of ammo by suicide attacks of the auxes, i lost 54 auxes here, which is 1/3 of my total loss of the war so far)



got an excellent proto, what i keep an consider to be my 3rd spat otoh: keeping the proto means my core is smaller than the recommended composition: 2 bombers and one recon are missing, but i'm very happy with my core

ok, i gave you ten days to catch me up, but now it's obvious, my competitors learn to play from my aars

14. kursk - ltbv

it wasn't that hard as it looked like. basically patience, arty support fire and concentrated counterattacks gave me the bv. after trying a few deployment compositions, i chose the safest path, and deployed Kapitan Kris' brigade in the south with Kapitan Luis' battery, and they cleared the south-western area, then turned back to north-east and helped liberating the eastern, south-eastern vhs. my main core (including brand new range-2 vehicles and two cs units) fought in north-east, they held on, and waited for the auxes coming from north-west, and launched a counterattack only agter gt-6 and crushed the german defense in the centre of the map

despite of using mostly the auxes (and i sacrificed lots of them, maybe 80 auxes died here but the germans often went out of ammo ), my losses were high, and i could purchase all the recommended new units. of course, the red beast got the best tank

nice and easy mission. my recom bombers and aux sub sank enough axis ships (maybe 1 or 2 escaped), the red beast led my attack on the central front toward the fartest airfield in the west. this time Kapitan Kris' brigade lost 3 os points against the bunkers, but they delivered the victory what the party was expected. i hoped the t-44 would be a great upgrade option, but it's not worth the money. i purchased 2 attachments instead (+ammo and +speed compensating the malus of the +ammo). i also had enough cash to upgrade one fighter

the red beast cleared the western perimeters of the white city, then turned to south and fought its way to beldrade from the south. a few core bypassed the serbian capital and outflanked it from north and took the airfield and the vh there. actually, i had to purchase temporal bombers to support them, as the germans around the last vh (east from belgrade) were harder than expected

19. székesfehérvár - ltbv + fighter proto (sold)

very crowdy map, so the red dragon could kill a lot. axis side had no real chance, used 4 or 5 paras to take most western flag hexes and they also helped to neutralize a few guns. a german reinf made me a bit harder to take one last vh, but i had plenty of options to get a comfortable bv

upgraded the tank again, and this time i had enough pp to use mostly elite reinf and upgrading last two fighters and another inf to cs unit

20. vienna - ltbv

this wasn't a scenario, but a hunt. i chose a perfect unit for Kapitan Kris' brigade: its speed was very useful when one mp left to resupply my tank which could overran a lot despite of the fast speed advance what my leading core should perform. after thinking a bit, i ignored the south-eastern zone, used my bridging flak and tried to reach the escape hexes before the germans. unfortunately, 25-30 units escaped (cca. half of them on the north-eastern bank of the danube). having four cs units was also very helpful

now i swam in prestige. so i used mostly elite replacements, upgraded a tank, and os-ed hq inf. it's time to finish the war in style

it's an excellent scenario very interesting design it was also one of the rare occasions where teleporting reinf are absolutely correct. two of my core guns damaged badly because of them, bud i had plenty of prestige to refit damaged units, so the costly crossing of the river was compensated

now it's only a few weeks (or months) to see how satisfied the party can be with Kapitan Kris' brigade. anyway, the high command wrote their commander's promotion and also deported most soldiers' family to kamchatka and yakutland. the wrong decision will be erased by the correctors of the politically acceptable history studies
