Re: The Obligatory YouTube Music Video Topic
alright, this is now on my party mix don't listen to much of traditional music (epic is modern) but this was great and refreshing play of medieval tune by Czech "band" Krless Czechland is country - on many levels and reasons - I should have been born in, but ancestors came from there anyway some 1500 years ago.... I use this chance to apologize for any eventual wrongdoings of Lazarević and Branković knights during Hussite wars on Sigismund's side ......mind, like SRV "going down" this one is also not their but old medieval tune, but like the version and it awakens my known "medieval side"
https://youtu.be/EdvOtmXw35E
btw, don't listen personally but ran into tune and band in free turn-based game if one wants to check, given by its also Czech designer.... not worth much as game (but is gift) and i'll try to finish at least ; http://www.rakeingrass.com/game_styrateg.php Enjoy either music or games.

Re: The Obligatory YouTube Music Video Topic
apropos my previous input - no matter if you like medieval sounds personally or not at all, song is superb. I played it to some people and I see that many are tricked by language... of course it's clear from youtube name in link, but to those less careful - language in song is not some archaic Czech, Slavic, Germanic, Viking or whatever - it is just good old Latin of course i am able to recognize it instantly having some years on it. They just mixed in "medieval tavern" sounds and atmosphere
great fun, i'd take them for music score in some movies long time haven't heard something as primal and inspirational (of course not as Alexandr's input)) Personally great. Almost like party song 700 years - great with some pre-battle knightly drinks or just rakija or scotch, in times usual practice we lost one of biggest medieval battles famously due to being too drunk- and not religious one. But added post about language for people never faced Latin...

Here in this corner of Europe we get, of course, sort of eclipsed in the genre by the presence, "next door", of one of its biggest "luminaries" worldwide , Jordí Savall: https://www.google.pt/search?sxsrf=ALeK ... ent=psy-ab (some discography)
Our most notable figures, to my knowledge, will be the group "La Batalla" assembled and directed by composer/performer Pedro Caldeira Cabral (who works on other things besides medieval):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCnY8xT ... io=1&t=159 Saltarello
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDY2bZe ... 4Y&index=2 Ai flores do verde pino (actually "flores" is the modern form of "froles")
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgH2AEGbUMA Ay eu Coitada
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ol5-ykCGIU Trotto
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSdc9HResUM Cantiga 322
But "froles" is still used in Mirandese language. Portugal's second official language, spoken in "Terra de Miranda", a frontier region (long ago it was Leonese).
They have music there too, of course, so I'll bend the post's theme a bit (Spanish members may recognize a few words):

Re: The Obligatory YouTube Music Video Topic
Perhaps the rock band my brother listened to more often in his old days of, mainly, self teaching guitar.
So, I,ve listened to massive amounts of Led too back then...
Surely one of the reasons why I rank them very high among my preferences but only return to them occasionally.
The other one should be that I prefer (even best) a different brand of rock.
Speaking of which, what about this title coincidence:

Re: The Obligatory YouTube Music Video Topic
Special edition on the Portuguese Guitar.
First, basic history and technical details:
Portuguese Guitar (Guitarra Portuguesa, fado guitar) - what is it? How is it played? In English!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxf4ASHqVMs
Since the 19th century the instrument is associated with "Fado" (in English that would be "Fate").
Actually, "Fados", plural, because there are two distinct (enough) forms according to geographical origin.
Lisbon "Fado" born of night life so of a more popular fashion, and Coimbra "Fado" with a very close bond to the city's university, hence more refined.
Plenty of examples of Lisbon's "strain":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN0vT_eDNqA
And also a good deal of Coimbra's "strain":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG40DAp ... A2781327DC
(Although my purpose is just to give an idea of how the thing sounds feel free to listen to all the long hours if its not hurting)
At some point, I think already in the 20th century, some people began to compose for the instrument in a more "erudite" manner, thus porting it from popular culture to chamber music dominion.
Much like Piazzolla made with the bandoneon...
Among them, the most acclaimed came to be Carlos Paredes (himself son, grandson and great grandson of portuguese guitar composers/performers):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpZCh9iGo-I
(Some of these concert "numbers" were composed by artists from other areas and/or were performed with them)
Few other names from among that "movement":
Armando "Armandinho" Freire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i6M-DwulgE
Alcino Frazão produced material for a single "album" in his short lifespan:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRRgqftzFdo
Mário Pacheco:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZHc-8lhy_8
José Nunes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNuSgltVvLQ
Carlos Gonçalves:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxhBHNgp868
I close with perhaps the paramount name from the most recent generation, Marta Pereira da Costa, who seems to be bringing the instrument onto yet newer horizons:

Since there is no fireworks allowed (in my country at least) and fireworks are made of metal, how about ending the year with other kinds of "metal" stuff
Gloryhammer - Live at Wacken 2019
Dropkick Murphys - Live at Resurrection 2017
Frog Leap - Live at Wacken 2019
EDIT:
The band has been presented already, but there is no such thing as "too much Alestorm"
Alestorm - Live at Tilburg 2019

A new year, another flashback to being a teen in the 80s. Finally someone put this on youtube. They did not win that year's huno's rock rally (competion for new bands), but they should have.

Digging further in the 80's. Just found out that King Koen passed away 4 years ago RIP He grew up a few towns over.

Re: The Obligatory YouTube Music Video Topic
i like the tune and music guys created (magika, 2 steps from hell if you do not want to look at link)) but reason for laugh is that video i.e. link I posted some, some time ago to tune here was deleted recently. Even i joked about it, unintentionally... it was called "tribute to Rome imperial" by Italian owners and had Russell Crowe as gladiator and some 3d models of ancient Rome with Meta Sudans, Forum, Arch etc. Liked it and watched it from time to time - liked thematics and music...
i have no idea, there were some comments and "youtube trolls" (like everywhere) i guess (to quote Eco, everybody can talk today as much as he/she like but...) AND really, really hope reasons for delete were not political nor anyone being offended by "evil Romans" if that was the reason, well no comment except that we are going towards hyper paranoid societies... sadly video is gone, liked for ancient inspiration and nice combo with 3d models - though "Gladiator" is full of faulties, but Russell is always welcome in my film - posted to tell the story and here's (just btw) longer but remixed version

"In memory of the singer Alexi Laiho, who died in December 2020 at the age of 41.
Children of Bodom were founded in 1993 and are known worldwide for their unique Melodic Death Metal. With musical flair, uncanny energy and a lot of humor, Children of Bodom fought their way to the top of the international metal scene during their career. With the album Halo of Blood (2013), through which an icy touch of Black Metal blows, they returned to their musical roots.
Here the brilliant rhythms of Power Metal combined with the harmonies of Symphonic Metal and the aggressive vocals of Death Metal to form an explosive mixture, which unfolds its full effect in bombastic melodies."
