This is not a problem for the installer but it maybe a problem for players, because those single png files will remain in the local OPENDAT folder probably forever, as the installer never removes any file from the local drive, it only adds and replaces files. So for those guys copying the icons in their local disk, they will load those local icons forever, as single icons from OpenDat folder and checked before loading the global and equipment datfiles.
The option was really implemented to allow designers to test new icons in game before including in the datfiles.
It is always better to include a short EquipIcons.dat which is easier and simpler to remove by players

Anyway, I hope the official OpenIcons.dat could be updated on time for the next official version or else wait to release until done.

I use AI 2.0 for all my campaigns, because, to be honest

, we never got information about the features of AI 3.0 and the differences between 2.0 and 3.0. And we never got the information that it is save to use AI 3.0 now or that 3.0 is now officialy released.

The game's version i currently use is: 0.93.3.99.RC10

Speaking about the icons. Yeah, it's just one medical truck and two german paratroopers + AT gun i want to create. So from my side there would be just 3 new icons. Dont't know about others like Leon

I do not use icons from the efiles OPENDAT folder yet. I just wanted to ask about it and learn what is better

New 0.93.4.33.OGX available at my site.

This version fixes the issue with large roundel.png files (like EFILE_OPENAK), not loading due to lack of dedicated memory in the video card (this file width is more then 8192 pixels).
Now the file is resized in memory before loading into a surface, so even roundel files for 254 countries can be loaded with 8192 pixels

yep, neither d, nor u specials

+1 another, maybe related bug: towed guns can't mount on gtp and move after deploying them, the related savefile is on its way

edit: it may be related to the "moves left" value. i checked the savefile in suite, and when it's zero, the unit can't be moved, despite of the gtp could move

Hello

Yesterday i encountered a bit of a strange situation. A ocean hex got "blown".

The situation was as follows: I had a destroyer which had put a minefield. At the end of the turn, the destroyer sits in that minefield. In the following AI turn enemy capital ships shot at the destroyer and the ocean hex got "blown".

Is that within in boundaries of "normal" behavior?

I have no savegame

(I know with "bridges over any terrain" the possibility of broken ocean terrain is needed, at least to have "broken roads/terrain", but a minefield/ocean hex become "blown" is a bit illogical?)

if it's basekorp (or a derivated) efile, then yes, that's normal. there can be a a cfg $var managing this behavior

edit: it seems the "blow_any_terrain=1" allows this behavior

In my Efile's cfg the $var blow_any_terrain is set to 1, while the opentxt_sample says with 1 set any terrain except ocean,... can be blown

I also just tested with a infantry unit with the ability "bridging", so it can enter a ocean hex. And the $var set to 0 or 1 had no impact on the ability of the unit to blow an ocean hex. In either way it could not blow the hex. Does the $var mean blow a hex by barrage fire?

imo the readme is false, at least as i remember correctly, Brian asked this feature, so imo yes, barrage, etc. can also blow up an ocean hex with this setting, but wait for Luis explaining it better. i never used this $var

Ocean terrain (as well as rivers and shallow) should not be blown when $blow_any_terrain is set to 1.
There was a time that shallow could be blown with a value 1, but nowadays, shallow cannot be blown either.
So definitively it is a bug.

In order to make my searching easier ... do you remember if the capital ship killed the destroyer, or just the minefield blown up when fired by the capital ship?

Effectively there was a bug allowing units, having bomb-size, firing to enemy units located in a sea-mine to blow up the hex.
Actually this can happen as far as the scenario allows blowing terrain and the unit is lucky with bomb-size check, despite the terrain is Ocean, Rivers or Shallow, and regardless $blow_mask and/or $blow_any_terrain is defined or not.

It is fixed using OGX 0.93.4.35 available at my site.

The destroyer got killed, but 2 or 3 cruisers shot at the destroyer in the AI turn, and i don't remember if the hex got blown at the same time the destroyer got killed. Sorry

I am so into the units that i am often an inattentive player and overlook things or don't mind and later i stumble and be like "Wait, what??"
I also often do not create savegames because i don't want to use them anyway

But as far as i remember it is the first time in all the years that a ocean hex got blown, so it is a very rare event.

while doing sports today i suddenly had an idea of what happened:
- i downloaded OGX
- at the same time, my antivir was scanning my external hard drive (actually, the scan had been running a while already)
- when the hard drive is connected to the PC, downloads go there
- the hard drive hadn't been scanned for a couple months
- i went away from the PC for some minutes and when i returned, the download and the scan were complete
- the report indicated several files, and since it was late (i wrote at 14 o'clock local time, but the scan was done the night before) i assumed it had something to do with OG

I have just read the report again and the OGX.zip was not among the reported files.

Open General version 0.93.3.99.RC12 is available at mi site (will be available in open-general-com tomorrow)

Summary of fixes since version 0.93.3.99.RC10

Units embarked in NTP no spotting enemy units and not having enemy none VH in the shore, didn't move toward the coast
Alt+M didn't allow mounting/dismounting
Renaming units from HQ has a glitch yet, now is fixed
Unit Dialog (right-clicking unit in map) after doing in another embarked unit, was showing bad icon and stats.
When scenario allow blowing terrain, units having bomb-size, attacking enemy located in a gnd/sea-mine, could blow up the hex, despite terrain is Ocean, Rivers or Shallow, and regardless &blow_mask and/or $blow_any_terrain is defined or not.
Units didn't mount to move, but got the transport allowance
That same bug, made towed units not able to move unless mounted manually
Ocean terrain could be blown by barrage fire
Roundels will be resized to 30x25 before creating the surface+texture
Fixed sequence to show MAIN, GTP and NTP
Some units with all strength suppressed could fire yet
Game was crashing when playing AI vs AI

I can not send a link, because the address always stays the same but when you are on Luis' site, you klick on "Open General" on the left. That is the 3rd little banner.
Then hoover your mouse over "Install/Update" on the top and klick on "download". Then there is a "RC version: OpenGenRC.zip"

Recently downloaded the latest openicons.dat and ever since i get this error when loading Alexandria scenario (map 1473):

This is a 3k map - smaller maps load without problem. It only occurs 1 time, so for example if i go from Alexandria to Port Said (map 1058, also 3k) the message doesn't occur a second time. But if i quit and restart OG, then load Port Said, the message occurs.
(sidenote: Port Said currently has only 2 units, both very old icons

)

I have no idea why OG cannot find map 0 (it is in the map folder) or what else this could be related to - as said, it seems to be a map issue, but occurs since icons.dat update. According to search engines, 12007 is related to bad internet connections, but i can browse at the same time and all images related to the 2 scenarios are there

EDIT:
Usually there would be a popup "do you want to stop connecting to internet until later" or so, if OG actually tries to connect to the server.
This doesn't appear with the above error.

RC is "release candidate": basicaly the next official stable exe, waiting for playtesters, players confirm it is stable and bug-free enough to be announced

as the last official stable Og version was announced in 2019, there are so many fixes and improved things (like AI 3.0), that it's worth to use it, though it's not necessary

Thanks, I am fine! Still need some visits of different doctors but things are quite good.
I even returned to the net and updated my things like DevArt and plan to update my e-files as well or at least summarise where things going now.
And I will definitely try these RCs as it may fix some rare bugs (mostly how AI works when set offensive).
Also, Suite sometimes give me some real headaches since switching to strategic view (I think this how it called) from real size it freeze or crash half ot the times. To be more specific do it with maps larger than 3840x3840 since I have no problem with smaller ones. Mayhaps videocard memory issue or Win7 is a pile of sh!t, dunno...

I just noticed that, when i inspect a unit and hoover the mouse over one of the units specifications, the header is sometimes wrong.
When i check Naval Attack, the header says "Fortress Siege" and others are wrong too. It happens with all Efiles.
I don't know how long this issue already occurs, because i only pay attention to the values because i know what the pictures mean

I don't even know where this "Fortress Siege " comes from

Does anyone else have the same problem?

Btw, Luis do you have plan for a date, when the next full official installer will be released? I see people play all with different exe files. Some with different RCs, some with latest full installer from last year. This is just a question, no request

Did you switch between Efiles, without restarting the game after the switch ?
I remember there was some display issues if Efile 1 had Custom Names, Efile 2 not: after switching, units in Efile 2 would display empty "()" as if the game was trying to read the Custom Names. Restarting fixed this.

(BTW: Artillery uses Ground Defense, not the Ranged Defense Modifier - if the Efile is still actively developed it would be nice if you could contact the Efile keeper)

Since i noticed the issue yesterday i restarted the game very often to check whats going on. When i start the official OG exe from last year october, the issue does not appear. When i use the latest RC, the issue always appears no matter what i do.

But thats also why i asked about an potential new full installer, so everybody can use the same version again.

I can not contact any efile maker because, as i had said, i don't even know where the wrong lines come from. Even when i delete all efiles except one, the issue appears. But i don't know what you mean anyway

I was not talking about ground defense and ranged defense. For example when i hoover my mouse over the air attack symbol, it says naval attack, air defence says naval defense

These two and the two in the screenshots are the ones that are wrong.

But since nobody else seems to experience this issue, i think maybe my installation is corrupted.

I checked in our e-file
I am using the Polish language version
I saw that all the correct names are in Polish, and incorrect in English -> finding an incorrect signature - does not translate into Polish (leaves an original)

No expression/name - Air Attack and Air defense
They were replaced by - Naval Attack and Naval defense
