Motorsports fanatic here. If it has 4 wheels and races i'm into it.

I also watch soccer - i prefer internationals to club competitions though, because there's only one club that i care to watch and they'll never win anything so i don't care about the Champions League, Premiership and all that jazz. Too much money involved for my taste.

Basketball - used to play (very badly :lol ) when i still had knees. Can't say i'm a big fan nowadays but i do like to see a game every now and then.

I'd watch occasionally wintersports, NFL/CFL, baseball, volleybal, tennis etc etc but i don't really care much about them.

When it comes to motor sports i watched Formula 1 (Damon Hill back in the days :yes ) for many years but it became very boring and predictable in the last years, so... i watch it rarely when i have nothing to do on sundays :lol

I am a huge cycling fan since the days of Jan and Lance. French champion Richard Virenque was one of the heros of my youth. Now i cheer for Slovak Peter Sagan since almost a decade. But he seem to have lost his mojo lately. There is also a lot of negative racing in road cycling nowadays and most riders play the waiting game... Hope it ill change eventually. I like the attacking riders more :cool

I also voted for NFL which i follow for quite a few years now. I try to watch it every sunday and sometimes i also watch college football on saturdays. Well the season is short... ;)
After the years i still have no favorite team. It is hard to pick one team to be a fan of when you have no relationship to any of them. I guess i have to run a poll about it :lol

Track and field/Atletics, Swimming and Winter Sports also got my vote but i follow a lot of other sports as well from time to time.
It also depends on what is on TV. I wish they would show NBA in free TV here in Germany, but at the moment i have no chance to watch a single game.

You should diversify. IndyCar racing has been quite spectacular last 10 years or so since the reunification of the series in 2008. and especially since the introduction of the new car in 2012. There's some great racing to be seen in the lower rungs of the F1 ladder (F3 for example, with the future stars), Japanese SuperFormula, sportscar racing (protorypes and GT), touring cars... There's always something going on.

I too, like the calssics more than the stage races, where everything is about waiting and marginal gains nowadays :lol
In the classics you can still watch 100 or 150km of racing, if you are lucky. I visited Valkenburg twice :cool It is also a very beautiful city, for those who are not so much interested in road racing ;)

My favorite sport is football (soccer) although my favorite team 1. FC Köln is on the last place at the standings at the moment. This sport I follow since 1990 then I was 9 years old. When WM or EM is I watch as many games as possible.
I also watch Formula 1 although I regret this in the most races. Formula 1 is nowadays boring, because stupid decisions were made. Only Hockenheim this year was really funny :D
I watch Formula 1 since 1999.
In the same year I began to watch cycling. Every year I try to watch as many Tour de France races as possible. I am not a fan of sprints. I like mountain arrivals the most. It is always funny to see when a big group arrives the last mounain and one after the other falls back. This year Emanuel Buchmann were sensationell! Luckily Ineos were not as dominating as the last years Sky was then the fight of the Tour victory was very boring. Besides Tour de France I also watch Vuelta a Espana, especially stages that took place on the Costa de Almeria, Desert of Tabernas, Granada, Pico de Veleta and Alpujarras. I was in these regions three times many years ago and I love these andalusian landscapes and it is always nice to recognize places in which I was. Last year I visited twice the Deutschland Tour. I watched live the sprint in Bonn and at a hill in the Eifel.
My fourth favorite sport is Biathlon. This sport I watch since 2002. But I like more to watch the ladies. Normally I am a big patriot and support germans and I am sometimes really annoyed if a german did not win :irate , but in Biathlon it is also ok if a nice non-german lady wins :rofl
When big events like Olympia are I also watch some other sports like athletic sports or ski jumping and Nordic combined but this I do not follow regularly.

when it comes to other sports, my interest is opportunistic these days i.e. if there is something interesting maybe i'll watch (basket, tenis, even waterpolo)).... liked F1 racing before, must admit do not follow it anymore. But only football every week, knowing results and standings in all important competitions. Don't worry Major, being in top of 2. BL is interesting too )

question is why is that really i.e. football always wins in importance - i don't know really - except game mechanics and rules and tempo - but probably passion, humor and "tribalism" of the fans is personally interesting (violence & criminal aside). In that sense while my club has smaller fan base in city, it is more iconic i'd say objectivelly :) and was always glad father & grandfather belonged to its base.... support some smaller dating to start of XX century, but that's realistically without any importance in competitive way.

If they would show it in TV over here, i'd give it a try. Same for NASCAR. But IndyCar or NASCAR are never on TV in germany.
As i said, i'd like to watch NBA too, but i have to rely on what is on free TV.
Sure, maybe there are low quality streams, but that is not the same ;)
Major Heinz wrote: Last year I visited twice the Deutschland Tour. I watched live the sprint in Bonn and at a hill in the Eifel.
The Deutschland Tour was going through nearby where i live too. I was really exited when i found out about that when the route was announced.
But then i decided to not go to watch the riders passing by live. It only takes seconds and i thought i get a better overview in TV and i also could watch the final sprint in Halberstadt in TV.
I am a big cycling fan, as i wrote before, but in my life i visted only 3 races live. Two times i was in Valkenburg for the Amstel Gold Race and the World Championships and i visited a ladies Bundesliga race long time ago. It was in the days of Team High Road. They had a ladies team too and it was fun to see riders of such a big team riding the same hill than we did on our training rides and there was High Road rider Emilia Fahlin in her Swedish Champion jersey too.

oh, what a match... no, not Barcelona-Real, talking about Frankfurt-Köln derby! :lol

i told you Major, strong as "male-goat".... i'll give it a break now (and German/any sucker talks generally) not to make Major feel uncomfortable, but surely will eat my hat if they make it to top 4 and think twice before messing with such power again : )

Yeah, it was an awesome game. But I am not happy right now, because Köln is known to be the best Sparrings Partner for Clubs who have a crisis like Werder Bremen. If they lose at weekend the two victories will become meaningless, because they would again donate points to a direct opponent. And Köln still needs some points right now, because the first games in new year will be against very strong opponents.

Snooker.
It calms down my mind and it represents the rules of applied physic so freaking well. To bad that O'Sulliven plays less and less these days as he has a certain character. :cool
Biathlon, mostly because of Lisa Vittozzi :bonk

Yes, O’Sullivan is snooker ;)

I watch Biathlon as well. All the years people thought that Fourcade is not from this world and then the younger Bö appears! The King is dead, long live the King :lol I follow Women's Biathlon as well, but like in most sports i don't really know who to cheer for. As long as the race/game is exciting, i don't mind who is winning. If i had to choose, i'd say Öberg of Sweden.

Super Bowl tonight :cool But of course i'dont know who to cheer for. I follow NFL for some years now and still i have no favorite team :dunno

Image I guess the Kansas City Chiefs, but I don't have a favorite.

Today's men's final of the Australia Open was also great cinema. I was hoping for Dominique Thiem (he was the outsider), but Novak Đoković was able to prevent the defeat again after 4 hours of play and won for the 8th time in Melbourne - which is outstanding!

Yes, I give him the greatest chance. He plays the most consistent performance of all the younger players. But it won't happen today or tomorrow.

Haha, I went to bed at 11 p.m. and got up again at 0:30 a.m. for the national anthem. But not because of the national anthem, but to check whether the recording of the program on my TV hard drive has also started. It worked and I was able to calmly look at the recording this afternoon (after my office work) and skip the many breaks through the commercial clips.
To keep the tension on the result going, I avoided the internet and news all day.

Para is a miner, but he calls it an "office" :lol

just joking out of boredom, of course. if there is some vacant place i'm in :) ...anyway, age is Thiem's "enemy" but also stronger side if he reaches right level soon and keep rivals like Stefanos Achilles, Medvedev etc. below it. ) not so important anyway, just age angle... i don't see something like those 3 repeating soon, as like

talking point today is - since Para mentioned Đoković, Thiem and sport few post and months ago - Dimitrov (Bulgarian player) catching corona (he'll be OK) while part of some non-competitive tournament here, Thiem was there as well as Zverev.... summa summarum, maybe he didn't catch it here but it is possible considering totally abandoned rules of prevention here since some time ago.

do not blame Đoković, although for someone as public figure as is he should be more responsible, blame our government for very unserious approach - namely, we were state with very tough restrictions, tougher even than many worse affected countries at the begining and "martial law" at the begining of "corona panic" and then suddenly and totally out of mind all restrictions were lifted and everything is allowed here, even public in sport events, all travel etc... banana state and behavior :) Đoković just shot himself in foot in a minor way, but not to be blamed exclusively. It is unimportant how one looks at virus and is it really as dangerous, but some rules like more serious Germany or other countries should have stayed in place at least for sport events and big gatherings, this way politicians and state sent (again) very unserious message to the world, seen report on BBC at all, Đoković more "victim" of such behavior :lol

btw, glad for some big football leagues back, makes weekends more interesting

Here, it sure provides a welcome shift in main theme of conversation, particularly for those we call "doentes da bola" (sick for (foot)ball)
And due to the accumulated delay rounds are taking place at around 4 days from each other.
On top of that the two first classified from first league have the same amount of points...

But retaking first league football here was, seems quite obvious, an economy driven decision.
Pretty much everything else in sports was summarily shut down and there isn't even talk about a next season...

of course, "big business" in Europe (non-banana one)) uncomparable to nothing else in that field probably... anyway, with one of your countryman being one of the most famous "products" recently you know that better than me, no need to waste words :) in banana part of Europe not so much money nor interest so even fans allowed in situation as is, sound more like pleasing everybody or El presidente's kids. but forget about it, talking serious places for a minute...

however money aside apropos big leagues, in some instances - like Italy from somethings i read without really knowning nor going into is it true - people said that they just had to resume it as they had 2 options i.e. no winner or giving title to Juventus, so some decided to "keep it clear" not to give chance to anybody to say that Lazio hadn't chance. Maybe one of motivating factors but can't confirm nor Italian to comment

and for the end (for now) really surprised that Portugal for all the years didn't attaract "more" money staying (although richer) pretty much similar to some leagues like in my banana with 2 main enternal competitors... but yes of course, in this case size of country does matter ;) but not some trouble as even "powerhouse" like Germania just asks when will Bayern fall from time to time :lol so not a big deal if it's Porto or Benfica :yes

in fact, addition in sport sense...

while watching Lazio game - the one i waited for 3 months, without some reason - must add that although Juventus is typically and naturally club with fancy and prefered colors, hence friendly, this time Lazio gets all sympathies and best wishes. It's something like "more iconic but smaller" club from Rome, with cool name and badge :) nothing with fans and friendly status, but sure most are fine folks ; ... useless to talk anything as Italians are not members around, naturally

primarily wanted to add something similar to Benfica - sympathy as many Partizan players got chance there recently, but one can't say they where some big successes, some even back here before reaching 30 :lol

well i guess most had enough of my "serious history" evenly about Sarma-Rome-Middleages so lets change subject as sporting history can be sometimes interesting as well... besides, some can run about some question in a sport quiz or like, i sometimes do them so why not telling ;

it is clear from my words but maybe not so, then to make it and add something to read. So, why my mentioned club wear black-white combo - the answer is Juventus and one of the Agnelli i.e. their president once giving sportswear to Partizan after some match. It was long time ago, when Puskas was a thing or even before :) Since Juventus derivate colors themselves from English club (big one now) Notts county, could be said Partizan by logic as well had colors from them - typing from head hope i didn't get facts wrong ) Second part of history is - why i say "iconic" except iconography and big Al, in broader sense - well it was first club from bana... pardon east Europe to reach final of "champions cup", lost to Real. But it was also long time ago, when others couldn't even play and even England was good in that sport :lol

:p but not bad subject

since i touched subject of fans in football - certainly important part of sport subculture - for real finish in this block... i'm the last person to spread some anti-Italian bias and such :lol so this video - if one has time and will to look - of Köln fans few years ago here against some club, not Partizan. Physical damage to stands, pyros and even thrown in opposing crowd etc. etc. and some picked by police for "talks" :) ...s.summarum, it is not Serbs, Italians or English (those blamed even for farting in stadiums) those are from richest German region. But of course, most are fine folks in German clubs too nor (except mentioned dangerous acts) are these extremes from Germany.

final thought is, while as said violence & criminal is not option nor anything good in that (mostly) i hope football atmosphere never becomes tenis one, as in serious sociological way some of fan behavior is good, as crtitique or just good laugh/joke (nor racist one but no problem like English singing "small town in...")) As, historically in many places, fans dared to touch some criminal figures, politicians ans corrupt elites often. finished, but as sociology experiment interesting, welcome all

pedantic as always, must say on second thought and look that it was maybe just case of "too drunk or druged" and not police pickup, there is some struggle there so undecided :) but nonetheless they attracted police initially present just on other side of divide..... and funny try to steal flag by one of rival fans, enraged one from Cologne fans (as they say) especially )

normally it is easy to look at it from distance and no victims, but there would be fight without l'gendarmes... small kids should be safe on such spectacles and result should matter, seriously speaking. another light thought from one colegue - how one decide what is racist, technically we and Germans are diferent race :lol

bye really, but reach subject hope something fresh there esp. about colors and history

I believe football restarted some time ago.... if you mean that well it is true that I like turn based games but when it comes to football I prefer my a bit more real time and faster :lol (even with VAR)

"de gustibus non disputandum est" as Plinius would say, so who likes likes... anyway, since I posted to make a joke here are some "brit-foot" news - we get rid of Milošević last week, wasn't that good and champion is already known here because all is fair :) and appointed "young talent" which led us to CL 10 years ago (as even younger coaching talent) but wasn't able to get serious job since then so he is back to biggest club he ever led... mentioning black-white factory of coaching talents (beside those once famous in Spain and Mexico etc) we'll have 2 managers in England this season, both in second division - hope they make it to new year :lol but we already had one which managed to take clubs to premiership twice, so you never know.... that one since opted to forget about football and now works on Qatar oil fields :) good luck to all and amen (to Randowe))

Carlo earlier today leaving the pitch :lol .... for some time like to look at manager's reactions, sometimes more than game itself, especially those trying to "hide them" like he does, but he couldn't hide what he feels this time )

interesting weekend in England, both managers i mentioned in second league scored wins so I joined with fun photo, but Randowe is right - the game is properly called "sucker" :) but like it sometimes in lack of better fun... no idea about America btw ;

I don't know if anybody outside Germany is interested in the german football 1. Bundesliga. But if you want, you can take part in the traditional betting game of the Raiders PG Forum, which will be held in our OG forum this season. You just have to predict the outcome of the games and post the predicted results. At the end of every round i will post the analysis and points everyone got. Post your predictions here if you are interested:

unexpected but nice idea (if rewards are rich) & thanks for invitation.... but do not know much about German football. Who is bestest there usually, FC Köln? :dunno .......................... :)

(maybe I'll join later for fun if there is interest, although as Plinius would say "si fueris Romae, Romano vivito more....." - I'd prefer things more international, but at least you have some activity and ideas :yes sorry for saying, but not into posting in subforums myself.... nobody forces me, that's true)

....hope we get points for guessing winner also, not only for correct result

Yes you get, but less. With the exact result you get 3 points, if you bet the correct goal difference, then 2 points. If only the winner is correct, then 1 point. Randowe will announce the exact rules later.

Of course there is no other reward than fun :lol
Maybe we can set up a more international betting game next year when there is interest. But this time we had to set it up in few days because we were already very late.

Here you can see the table from last season: https://www.ligainsider.de/bundesliga/tabelle/
Bayern Munich are always champions and win most games. All other teams behind them win or lose depending on their daily form.

Para my friend...... while I thank you for kindness & taking my words so seriously :) - even back in 1980 I knew that Bayern is "best team" in Germany (i'd like any other winner though almost every year beacuse they are boring)) One Bayern ex-player even took my team to CL as coach, Matthäus almost 20 years ago - his highest point in coaching career :) placing us on solid 4th place in strong group....

i was just joking i know a lot about standings in all major continental competitions, even some less major as second division in England, as mentioned. thanks again :) not bad for fun beating Germans in their game, maybe later but somehow place is.... ah, well you know - good luck with some action.... i know i'm also old.

bah, after witnessing team progressing through Euro-league round against team that played first ever European home game, and progressing by dubious penalty in extra time (but being "dominant") i just say how far away look those days from 2003 and kicking out Newcastle, Robson, Shearer and then 3rd team in England..... so i looked at tube and spectacular penalties after that game just to have reason to still like sport :lol .... and people are still ready to say that everything will be better in future :p ....to be honest even Newcastle isn't some "power" anymore )

anyway, know nobody cares about silly teams (as joke, it's how it is) and i'll talk about it unless we win something big (like domestic super-cup)) but posted to say that if someone still want to join Randowe's game - he is doing point calculations anyway :) - it starts tomorrow so i put this thread upfront, not that it matters at all as much....

one more personal-ised thing about that night in 2003, worth mentioning..... 1990 WC in Italy was probably first WC i was able to watch with some sense and memorize, was popular here. Bobby Robson, Matthäus (everybody instantly remembered him here)) and penalties as one of stories... and then "wow" who would say both of them and penalties would play such important role in your (after all from football periphery by that year) club newer history and you will watch both faces in (much more) dramatic moment :lol it's all symbolic and great story... Matthäus wasn't some "sir" in the end of story, but night and his face on bench will be remembered maybe for long, considering club prospects and ambitions (and fact that UEFA changed format of qualifications) - maybe because it included Bobby and him.

IDK, one of the reason why that sport is personal fav, i can say unlike many of you with privilege that club (and country, and city) had continental champions in many sports :p but nothing nears such emotions for me... at least for one night when I was younger, not anymore it comes with age :)

question is, is Schalke relegation material, or Bayern really good :p btw, it ended 8:0 to add to his words, for who doesn't follow, like Para. and i joined game as he insisted)) ... but no problem i did, and i'll comment in your subforum BL, if anything to comment and laugh about but that's unlikely considering language, great noise and participation there, maybe i should have waited for more Germans there before entry )

anyway, here more relavant things.... did I tell about one night in august of 2003...... and then Lothar said "i can't watch".... and Bobby said "Alan, he is tall, just lift the ball a bit" .... and then blah, blah :lol

could easily have been 4 more players for the betting game but they were not able to make the transition from last season to the new season for different reasons it seems... But that should not make us worrie :lol

Btw i already picked one game for one of the october dates :secret red star rising ;)
