Back Sort Of...

Post by REDrake »

Hey Guys,

I am back, sort of...

Not a lot of time for playing or working on e-files these days... :dunno

Work has been tedious, changing job places even worse, corona lockdown affected my business life, I also had some neurological problems due to some issues with job and so on...

I also see that I was made moderator of Equipment Files sub-forum, in absentia... :huh

:welcome back, Dragoş! :wave

i hope you can cope with your problems succesfully. the og pub is always open, when you want to share some misantropic or cheerful thoughts, visions, videos, etc.

and don't worry about being a mod, admins (Luis, Juankar and i) can do all the very rare necessary jobs, it's more like an appreciation w/o any responsibility. plus you can "vote" for the 2020 promotions ;)

... and I would add this pub has music in "The Obligatory YouTube Music Video Topic".
Although, for specific soul restoration purposes my personal recommendation would be also much more specific than the mix of choices from various posters:
Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart.

Well, that's for me, other souls may be tuned quite differently and their most efficient musical restorers may be quite diverse.

Obviously, it was not an original name.

The movie The Mouse that Roared is a classic.

But Maus fits better in the overall Panzer General theme.

i hope Dragoş doesn't mind posting about my current situation:

after working hard during all summer to kiss the ass of our partners, my company lost its contract what i was working for, so i lost my job. fortunately, my bosses were very helpful and offered me a new position, so i still have a job, which is great in these days, as all of us know it very well. unfortunately, this change means i will have basicaly zero free times for a few months. i know i have serious backlogs in the maintenance of the repository (icons, mapx, leaders, etc. databases). i hope i can add the delayed items in november. so don't worry, i'm alive, i haven't forgot this community and i'm still 100% commited, it's just a temporal obstacle in my life

i still read the forum and do the admin jobs in the evenings

stay safe and happy hunting! :howdy

Hello people,

Sorry for me very lengthy absence. Things went to toilet with my life this past summer. Problems with the job, financial issues, moved our to a rented apartment where my PC is still in a box and came very close to divorce.
2 months ago, I was forced into putting on hold any ideas of working as a sole practitioner lawyer.

On top of that I have some medical issues with something called narcolepsy which affects my daily efficiency. It requires medication, but is not fatal. Winston Churchill lived with it until 90...

I do want to get back to OpenGen eventually, but nowadays, I barely have time to touch computer games...

Yes, I will make it.

Nowadays, I am trying to lecture my 7 years old daughter in the pleasures of history and wargaming... For now, no computer games (although, she likes it when I used to play Age of Empires in front of her, past summer), but I aim for Santa to bring her 3 COBI (LEGO from Germany) sets: A set with German soldiers at Narvik 1940, a Pz IIIM and a Me-262...

That will be fun! Cobi has some good historical sets about topics Lego would never make a set of. Some of Cobi's ships are hugh. Cobi is from Poland and producing in Poland/EU only. Not like other big companies who have a factory in China, i am looking at you Lego :lol
I like building with bricks too. I create hugh Star Wars (desert planet) houses. Like the Lego modular houses series. If someone knows that.

Have fun building the Cobi sets with your daughter :howdy

Well, she is addicted to Lego since she was 2. She has a lot of lego sets. But I had my eyes on these Cobi sets for about a year or so.

Yes, I also saw those huge ships, but they are quite expensive. around 150 Euros for Graf Zeppelin. The cheapest is the VIIB U-boat, at 35 Euros.

For now, I want these 3 sets. To more honest, I actually ordered the Bf-109 first, but Cobi called me to say that because of a mistake even though I paid for it, they no longer have it in store. Therefore they actually told me that they will send me the Me-262 in exchange, even though it is more expensive with no extra charge... :cool

Might be a marketing strategy, but I cannot complain...

Now, I only need to make certain my wife is not angry for buying this without consulting with her first... :wife

Awesome. Of course that would be a Santa gift to remember, as I am also a fan of Sabaton...

Cobi kind of tricked me. Like I said I ordered a Pz IIIM and they said they will also gift me a Me-262. The package arrived.

In it was a Pz IIIE and a P-51C Mustang...

Only the Narvik 1940 soldiers were what I expected...

I had fun assembling the Panzer this evening. Except for the tracks, those were dreadful to assemble.

The plane and soldiers will be brought by Santa...

No. Only the floor and a carpet with obstacles made of other bricks are to be played. :)
A more detailed mock-up of the battlefield would be suitable only for an exhibition - too high probability of damage and waste of work put into the construction. :lol

Haha yes, a large detailed terrain layout needs a lot of time...and bricks.
I once saw a damaged house review at youtube. Something like this would go well along the vehicles. It's a Modbrix set. Cobi certainly is high quality but i don't know about Modbrix.

Sorry for the off topic talk. Once i finish my star wars houses and find a way to get a good photo i will open a new thread :lol :lol

Here is the Modbrix house i was talking about:

My kid already knows what other Cobi sets wants...

She wants especially the Graf Zeppelin carrier. But she also wants the German 1940 Narvik soldiers (which I already bought), the Churchill tank, the T34/85, Bf-110D, Pz-IVG and VW Schwimwagen (I hope I spelled it right).

I definitely cannot afford to buy her the carrier. I might get her the U-boat, which she found fascinating as well, of just the Bf-110D.

Last time i've been to Malta it was still the 20th Century. But i remember it as a beautiful place.

Good luck in your new endeavors!

:howdy REDrake. In Germany we say: other countries, other customs. Therefore my question - is your professional qualification as a lawyer fully recognized in Malta?
In any case, I wish you good luck and success.

Actually it isn't. That was never on the table when I considered moving out. But I am working as a legal compliance executive, which basically means working as a lawyer, without being warranted as a lawyer...

Yes, I know adaptation is difficult, especially since I have no friends here, so I make do, one step at a time.

Back again...

Still living in Malta, becoming more of a Brit each day...

I would like to get back to Panzer General one of these days, but for the past months I got more and more into playing Order of Battle World War II.

Not to mention some Close Combat games...

My e-file is still saved as well as all my campaigns in work (not a lot of texts)...

Another post. Unfortunately, my gaming days are on hold for now. My laptop died and I was unable to buy a new one, because in Malta they are insanely expensive...

However...

I did manage to pass unto another the enjoyment of playing Panzer General 2...

She's 9 and she managed to win her first scenario in the game. And got awarded a SiGIB for her efforts.

I might induce her into Open General at some point... After all campaigns need fresh blood testers...

Yes. I started to get her used with Age of Empires 1&2 and at some point I told her about PG2...

She is still struggling to learn, as she constantly buys planes only and sends artillery to the front lines...

Yesterday I showed her the standalone SSI scenario of Malta. She immediately see spotted errors in geography and then misspelling of Valletta as Vallena... I do agree, that map is messed up

You have to build her a Malta scenario on a more accurate map ;)

Already done...

On your map, modified... Since, I have been living here, I came to realize what a dreadful experience a naval invasion of Malta would have been. Only 3-4 usable beaches all with bottleneck canyons and the terrain would be terrible for paratroopers...

Except she's not yet ready for my Superblitz campaign.

Having fun at Chisinau, helping Romanian allies...
