Thanks for the replies! And the pictures of you sea deployments. I really don't know why I have this problem, everything seems in order, and was working fine, as I said, this has happened before, and I can't remember how it was resolved, I think a re-install? But that did not work this time.

I guess i found the solution. Please check if the checkbox "ports dont allow deploying naval units" is checked. If so, uncheck it.

first of all, this seting affect both real and dirt ports, if real port allows deploying ships but a built one doesn't, not this setting will be the solution

secondly, if this is an intended setting, you SHOULDN'T suggest to cheat, instead of you could have explained this setting :2cents

I am very sorry. Shinobus had a problem and i thought i can help him out without much explanation. I somehow thought that he would ask for further advice if any was needed. But i see that i was wrong and apologize for that. It will never ever happen again :bonk

i still don't know what's Shinobus' problem: he spoke about dirt ports, but we still don't know what about the real ports, how can we reproduce this situation (efile, campaign, scenario, savefile) at all

regarding your sarcasm: when you act as a designer, you also have very strict policy, and you disliked when i exploited some bugs/features. why do you think any other designers would like when their campaigns, scenarios, etc. are ruined by a suite cheat? :dunno

Hi Cs_ :welcome to the forum

Yes old .map files are not hosted as to be downloaded automatically, because campaigns already converter to OpenGen format don't use them.
Any old package using .map files different than the PG2 stock efiles should include any .map needed, so :dunno why it is missing for you.

Anyway I've uploaded jh3novg.map so you should be able to continue if you retry it.

i've checked the 1600+ old *map files i got, and jh3* maps are included. imo i can add a static zip package of the old pg2 map description files to our website, though we can add them separately for auto dl, similar to the jpg files, as you prefer

I have a similar problem.
A few days ago I started a second run of the CC56 and used an older OG installation. After two scenarios it was over. The map was missing. I started the automatic map search, but was unsuccessful. A total of 37 maps were missing, which I could not load.
I switched today to another PC. But even with the current OG version 0.93.3.0 not all maps are loaded:

Checking campaign [C: \ Open General \ efile_cc56 \ SCENARIO \ ss-blitz.cam]
Scenario # 9 [SSscn10]
[mapfile: GIBRALTAR + .map] not found even on the web

as a temporal (or permanent?) solution, i uploaded the 1660 old pg2 map description (*.map) files i collected to our site:

http://www.open-general.com/install/pg2_maps.zip

it's linked on the "special installer" page

idk what's the problem with the auto dl, but this link can be always useful as a backup :2cents

EDIT: i see, auto-dl uses Luis' site (which is temporaly off) and not the mapfinder :doh

Well, Mapfinder did disable automatic downloading some yeas ago ...

Currently OG tries to download from the map repository at my my site and if not available, it tries the map repository at open-general.com, so there should not be any problem with automatic downloading of missing map pictures.

But old .map files are hosted only at my site, which right now, is available only by ftp, and is broken when accessing by http, which is how OG tries to download automatically :thud

If downloading old .map files manually is a big problem we could upload to open-general.com all the .map files too, so OG would be able to download them automatically too.

:doh you are right, as only my site host these files, OG only tries to download from my server.
I am fixing and once checked I'll upload the updated exe

BTW: Obviously I have to upload to "open-gen.com", where do you prefer to put ( OpenGenRC.zip and OpenGen/OGX.zip) :dunno

whatever you prefer :) actually you can commit the exe (either rc or ogx) itself, and i immediately write a script for creating a dl (zip) package for it

Trying to unpack the exe (using 7zip) creates a CRC-error.

The OGX pack is fine.

would you check the filesize of the rc.zip, please? it should be 10,996,860 b

Sorry, I am extremely annoyed that the automatic download of maps is still not working.
What do I have to do? Do I now have to manually reinstall the maps as in grandma's time? Which files do I have to download and in which folder do they have to be saved?
I just want to play with an existing installation (0.93.3.0) and not constantly install any new test exe. Does anyone understand me?

What do I have to do? Do I now have to manually reinstall the maps as in grandma's time? Which files do I have to download and in which folder do they have to be saved?
I just want to play with an existing installation (0.93.3.0) and not constantly install any new test exe.
with the latest official exe (0.93.3.0), the auto dl won't work till Luis can solve the http-problem of his site, because it was the only repository defined for *map files (the new site was defined only for *jpg images) so you can

a) update to the rc files, which is the "release candidate" of the new official exe, and i think it is very close to be an official release, it's safe to use it, it's not a test exe

b) you can manually dl the all-in-one pg2 maps package from our site and unpack it into the root folder of the game (files will be copied to the main "map" folder)

sorry for the inconviences. this situation may happened because we wrongly believed that the new site had already been added as a full map repo, but it wasn't :( :-o now it is, but only a new exe can handle it

Good Morning,

I checked my installations on two PCs last night. One computer works with 0.93.3.0, the other with 0.93.2.0.
For all CC's (1-76) I did the "Check campaigns & DL missing maps" until the message "No critical files are missing".
The following problems were found (the same on both PCs):

@ Luis: http serve4 of your sites works again :yes

@ Para: cc07 is a very bad quality campaign (just like cc02), there are 'ghost scenarios' mentioned in the .cam file but actually not part of the campaign. maybe i can try to remove them with pg2 suite.
edit: cc07 should be playable in its current status

missing text files shouldn't be a problem, they aren't critical, and honestly hundreds if text files (and videos) mentioned in .cam files are missing

i'll check gibraltar+ map and cc74 later, now i install a new laptop for my mum, so probably tomorrow

Probably, because:

Indeed this old campaign include many scenarios that are not used, many empty slots, and that makes OG to report unused scenarios because OG checked all data included in the .cam file. Have you checked if it works anyway ?
I have NS_USA_ext_fixed.xcam which fixes the slots in the campaign using yet the same old .mscn files, but not included in the CCPACK.
I'll commit to be included in the next build

gren_08 should be included in the CCPACK because the repos doesn't include specific pictures to be used in choice scenarios.
I haven't it either in my install, so if anyone could send it to me, I'll commit to be included in the next CCPACK build

I've checked with RC and OGX versions and neither report GIBRALTAR+.map as missing, so I'm sure I fixed the uppercase issue after the official 0.93.0.0

I plan to release a new official 0.93.4.0 very soon, I'm only waiting to add a new possibility to read the repos from an external text file, so changing the available repos can be easily switched if we need because a break down.

the background pictures of the choice scenarios shouldn't be added to the map repo, they are located in the 'scenario' folder of the efiles. gren_08.jpg is missing from cc74, indeed :-o , but it can be copied from efile_kaiser, i'll do it tomorrow, or you can also do it easily

thanks for fixing cc07 :bow

Of course, the choices' picture should not be in the repo, these are used like the intro pictures, so they must be in the scenario folder

Don't worry, I'll copy from kaiser and commit to the svn repo :yes

Today I installed OpenGen in a new laptop and, as usual, Windows tried to sabotage my efforts:

- First, it told me that I couldn't load older exes that weren't on the Microsoft store. For safety reasons, of course. Neer mind, I managed to change the configuration ow Windows, and moved on.

- Then, I had to adjust the screen resolution of the laptop, from 1920 x 1080 to 1366 x 768. With the first one, the icons in OG were too small.

- And when I thought that my problems were over, Windows screwed me with the miscelaneous sounds. Instead of the classical "click", the new laptop loads a horrible screech, everytime. I checked the sound folder, just in case the files were corrupted, but they aren't. Somehow, Windows is meddling with the game, and the miscelaneous sounds aren't loading properly.

Of course, I could play without any sounds bt I'd like to ask you first. Have any of you experienced a problem like this? And, if you have, how could you solve it?

It looks like a problem with the drivers
- download and install DirectShow drivers (what you have selected for the media settings for OG?)
- download and install the drivers for your sound card
- set / check the correct configuration of the sound program
- use another default program for video / sound (I personally use VLC media player)

Hi Luis :howdy
I've been playing some OG again recently. I've noticed that the AI don't use (launch) units sit in containers (carriers, bunkers etc.). It makes no difference whether a unit sit in a container from beginning or moved into by the AI in the course of a scenario. Once in container, the unit is ignored by AI. :-?

… and one more thing. :) Kamikaze units don't attack uncompromisingly. They run around and attack sometimes, but don't use the first chance to attack the enemy.

If you want units to attack uncompromisingly it is better to activate the "fearless" checkbox on scenario level for the unit.
Kamikaze means that the unit gets destroyed after it attacks, like a rocket or kamikaze plane, which can only attack once.

Yes :winkgrin , I am currently working on two campaigns

RED ARMY CAMPAIGN 1936-45 (21 scenarios)

I started it years ago and have now completed it - scenarios are ready, also tested, but I'm still working on the briefings

and

NATIONAL REVOLUTIONARY ARMY 1925-47 (also 21 scenarios)

a nice low-tech campaign about the Kuomintang that spanned several wars

Second Eastern Expedition, 1925
Northern Expedition, 1926-28
Sino-Soviet War, 1929
Central Plains War, 1929-30
Chinese Civil War first phase, 1927-37
Second Sino-Japanese War, 1937-45
Chinese Civil War second phase, 1945-49

and some other minor skirmishes. :lol these Chinese ... crazy

This campaign is halfway through.

:hi

OGX version: 0.93.4.31.OGX available at my site: http://luis-guzman.com/OpenGen/OGX.zip, improving the logical for AI 3.0 when disembarking units from naval transports.

Also AI vs AI should work now.

I plan to promote OGX as the new RC version in September (if no more issues are reported) in order to release a new official version before October, merging the OGX branch. So it is possible to develop using the better AI 3.0 with OGX.
