Map Bug report... (457)
On Gilestiel's, map 457 (Kharkov) lists a mismatched .mapx and .map ("pntllria" = map #456 "Pantelleria"!), and the fitting "map457.txt" has all location names shifted upwards by several hexes.

Re: Map Bug report... (457)
I fixed to point only to kharkov4 .mapx and .map (needed to use shp files). But when downloading from MapFinder both mapx/map fiels show up duplicated
and I don't know why nor how to fix that.
I've not fixed the map457.txt though, as either the mapx and the scenarios created using this map don't need the text file.
Anyway, if you want the .txt also fixed, please tell me how many lines should be added/removed from the beginning.

No, thanks, it's not needed if there is a working .mapx.LuisGuzman wrote: ↑2025-11-06 13:16, Thursday if you want the .txt also fixed, please tell me how many lines should be added/removed from the beginning.
Re: Map Bug report... (457)
No one used the names for map 457 because nothing there matches... and it's been like this for a long time (maybe from the beginning?)
I checked the old saves on the CD --> in March 2007 it was just as bad...
Mapx doesn't correct the names either - they're just as corrupted.
There are 5 maps named Kharkov (83, 134, 237, 457, 1241) --> I checked, and from other map texts --> they don't match either.

Maybe all the Kharkov maps were made based in former 83 and thus all inherit the errors
I think the best is to remove the .txt existing for either Kharkov map, and maybe to remove also from all the related mapx
What do you think

Hi Luis
Another linguistic misunderstanding... it's good that you're making sure.
I don't trust automatic translation even more now, when the AI tries to guess what I mean...
I checked whether the names (txt file) from maps 83, 134, 237, 1241 match map 457 - and that's what I meant --> the names from these maps --> could have been (past tense here) theoretically swapped... for now, don't do anything.

Not sure to understand this properly yet, but IMHO, that map457.txt should be removed from downloading this map, right ?I checked whether the names (txt file) from maps 83, 134, 237, 1241 match map 457 - and that's what I meant --> the names from these maps --> could have been (past tense here) theoretically swapped... for now, don't do anything.

Re: Map Bug report... (457)
Luis, you can now delete that strange map457.txt file --> I thought I'd make a new one to replace it with...
This is a nice map (457)
I tried to create a correct map_457.txt file. To do this, I first left only single names in the original map457.txt file (to avoid repetitions) - there are 29 of them. These last ones are river names.

Then I downloaded the appropriate map sheets from 1943. Kharkov is located in the corner - so I had to download 4 sheets to cover the entire map 457.
I put these sheets together into one map and started searching for city names. Unfortunately, I didn't find all of them.
The names on the map are written in German, Polish, and Russian phonetics. However, for the map file - they are used in English phonetics. If you use Google Maps - you currently have Ukrainian phonetics in this area (writing names).
If anyone would like to finish - create these names --> I'm attaching a file (sheets of the merged map) with the found names marked according to the list from 1 - 24

Re: Map Bug report... (457)
The names 6-9 are all in the same area south of Kharkiv. If you check the history of the villages you will find the other versions of the names. For Zid'ki I think it is Zvidky. On your map they are between the numbers 10 and 20.
EDIT: Efremovka is located at the southern map edge below number 17. It is called Jefremowka.
Pervomajsky is maybe modern day Slatopil, which is southeast of Jefremowka, but outside of your map.

Re: Map Bug report... (457)
Thank you, Klemens, for your help.
I identified other cities, but I couldn't find numbers 15 and 21. Number 22, however, is located about 93 km from Kharkiv and is currently a train station (it used to be a village).
Since the others are within a maximum of 50-60 km, I reject this location.

The rivers in map image 457 also seem strange.
The Severskii Donets River (2) is acceptable.
The Udy River (4) should flow into it. The Lopan River (1) should flow into the Udy River, and the Kharkov River (3) should flow into it.
Below, the Mzha River appears to be drawn, but its name is not in the list.
The river marked in red, perhaps the Merla River?

It is also difficult to match the cities (names) found to image 457.
The map seems to be significantly distorted compared to reality.
I'm finishing this topic.
