A few questions

Post by eskuche »

Hello! I have the itch again and have come back from Panzer Corps. A few questions which may seem silly.

- What is the difference between CC EFILES and standard efiles with the same campaign?
- I selected ATOMIC EFILE randomly and picked Weltkrieg randomly, and it appears that this is actually one of the newest campaigns! Why for these do people play on 100% and not 50-75%? Also, when I read the AARs, there is almost no overstrength. Is there a specific reason why? Is it better just to get more and more units?

Thanks in advance. :o

Personally I never played a campaign, from any efile, with other than 100% because all campaigns were built and tested with 100%. So I think I am only playing the "real" campaign at 100% prestige for both the player and AI. In the campaigns I design myself, like Weltkrieg, there's also no prestige cap because I strongly dislike the prestige cap shenanigans very much because it favors veteran players only. When elite players play the cap more than the game and exploit everything possible, with for example 50%, and end up with a better core than other players. Nope :nyet
But that is only my opinion.
Of course everyone can set different prestige levels and go for it :cool You can always set house rules. Like Dimitris is playing with 75% but always playing until the last turn for a tactical victory.
Every run of the same campaign can be played with a different core or different house rules. Especially a campaign like Weltkrieg, which I hope gives the player a lot fo freedom in terms of core composition!

I rarely overstrength units because sooner or later the AI will hit one of these units and every lost strength points means you loose prestige that you will never get back. For me overstrength is more of a fun gimmick, where you buy sp for certain special units or simply for fun :lol . But for example Dimitris bought strength points for all his artillery and air defense units in his current run of Weltkrieg. So it really comes down to ones preferences and playing style.
Generally I'd say it makes most sense to overstrength units like artillery and AD, which are behind the front and in no direct contact with the enemy. If you buy sp for a infantry unit, the chance is high it will loose them in every scenario.

It is the same with upgrades. Less upgrades mean you save prestige and thus can buy more units.
For example, If I upgrade a Panzer II directly to Panther I save around 300pp compared to the Pz II > Pz IV > Panther sequence.

But again, it comes down to ones preferences. If you want to create the best monster tank ever, you want to always have it at 15sp (or more if possible).

You also can play the Weltkrieg campaign with a smaller and highly specialized core or spam the battlefield with cheaper units. I think both will work and there are many more options :cool For example hoza's current core is rather small but he uses a lot of combat support para units and planes with recon movement.

Sorry for the long text :o

Excellent. Thank you for the in depth response! I was concerned due to seeing cores > 100. Coming from panzer corps, I was afraid I would have a sunk cost in not knowing some secret optimal core strategy. It’s quite um new to me that there is no slot limit, but I imagine frontage would come into play at some point.

You are welcome! If you have further questions please feel free to ask. We have a small discord server if that is interesting for you. You'll find the link in the first post of my ATOMIC efile thread.

In Open General it is possible to limit the core size by setting a limit for units a player can buy in each scenario but this feature is rarely used.
