OK...

I decided to move\convert Modern Warfare from PeG to OG. I converted the equipment, fixed the dates\availability stuffs and started to reset the sounds for the units. Rearrange some units among classes were necessary because PeG handled aircrafts differently.
I strongly hope that converting the scenarion and campaigns would be easy and swift but I know that some units need manual reset (transports also handled differently in PeG thus transported units would need some "extra love").
I wonder if in case of maps the s16 files are necessary to convert into jpg or enough the mapx file (does it contain the map image?)...
This is my first conversion project so I mostly go blind following a "tried-and-died" pattern...

I think that is all for now...

New year and I am back to work on ModWar to OG conversion...
And I decided to add some new scenarios and units for it. Ukrano-russo war provides lots of new stand alone scenario ideas like escalated frontiers (lots'o'nationz versus lots'o'nationz on huge 5000x5000 pixels map!)...
I hope around the end of winter I could share a demo from the Modern Warfare E-file. I am positive about it because lately I feel myself really alive and full of energy what is a very good thing.

One of these days you may not even need to create your own "what if it escalates" scenarios...
But until then there's plenty of room for speculation.

So far 3 campaigns converted from PeG Modern Warfare to OG version.
Pffff... Not as easy as I thought to convert all those stuffs :P Literally all scenarios need to fix manually because some attributes (fuel for planes) are miss (hah, looks good when crash at the end of turn!).

Campaigns and scenarios are seems playable (not tested as heavily though just swift-checked).
Need to master a new music for the e-file... Mayhaps some C&C gold themes would be nicely fitting, dunno...

Still working on the first 5000x5000 map picture for the e-file (hunh, well restarted it the third time to be honest).

Would add lots of new units during this week for the equipment like: BREM 4K, Giatsint B, Iskander and a polish stealth tank (saw a nice concept when surfed Google), new infantry for Ukraine and elite versions for Russia (+blue berrets)...

Most is too modern/rhytmic/artificial for me. As campaign background music... maybe.
https://www.google.com/search?q=ukraine ... zKhJkTykx8

Pop wave. Maybe not the best choice for the job.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fC4dHxVlCA

Patriotic mix.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_TpxOYofP0

Or classical...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmk8cmghM7k

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir-j8F3wsIE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2048-6hVkXs
1st and 4th links may stand some chance as background music, although for the purpose here... I do not know.
Seems more like the complete antithesis of war...

Okay, first the link:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/lr7ibgb3 ... r.zip/file

This is the DEMO of the Modern Warfare's conversion from PeG to OG.
Far from perfect but since I would have a hard time coming (yeah, things seems to love turn upside-down when you think you passed the worst) I thought I share this for sure...

Known bugs\issues:
Units seems to start 0 fuel and half ammunition (bad conversion from PeG?) <= While I manually reset the air units to prevent them crash the other units not fixed (ships may also have trouble 'cause of this). Not sure if there is a way to batch-fix this instead of unit-after-unit but when I could I fix this!
Sometimes an error log generated about an unit not exists even the original PeG equipment <= Hunh? Have no clue 'bout this nor have any idea how to fix this if it need to be fixed (most probably not)...
Music sometimes go astray <= I would change the old music completely so IF it not cause you crashes I think mute would solve this...

If one may find any other bugs, please, let me know! I also think all alpha-channel issues are solved within the e-file but if not, let that me know to!
THANKS!

Had a Brexit War started.
Royal Navy did not budge a single hex.
Aircraft did move and the French did send two Fighters to destroy one British Bomber.
In my second go I downed the two and bombed three French ships.
I also managed to Embark a ground unit and move it, contrary to the ships...

To Duke Falcon:
Hello here is the solution for fuel and ammo problem. Start Suite. Load the Campaign. In the Register click Campaign. A window opens, scroll down to Reset Fuel to all units in campaign, Click on it, OK. Scroll down for Reset Ammo to all units in campaign.

To Bombast:
The ships don't move, because they had no fuel. Solution see above.

@PeeDee
Thanks! I would run the process through when I could (perhaps it works even for scenarios).

@Bombast
I listed it among the known issues but I fixed only the aircrafts in a haste because 0 fuel in their case is... Sensitive?

Otherwise I would really fix the issues I know or would be found. Not in the next two weeks nor sure when. Have some troubles I need to survive in an adequate shape and condition before I give a run again this conversion thing.

OK.

I again work on the conversion to Modern Warfare to PeG. Thanks for PeeDee I could easily fix the fuel "bug" of the conversion!
Some new maps for stand-alone scenarios are also under making. Not plan any new campaign now but if I finish quickly with the conversion a 4-6 scenarios ukraine campaign may be a candidate to add...

Okay, conversion is finished!
Here is the Modern Warfare's OG-ported version:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/lr7ibgb3 ... r.zip/file

Now time to add new units, scenarios and an ukraine mini-campaign to the e-file...

KNOWN ISSUES:
Leaders! Converting them from Peg is stupid. When try to change them the Suite freeze or crash. Game seemingly handle them well so far but unsure still...
If any trouble may occur let me know and try to fix it (if possible)!

Modern Warfare e-file is upgraded&updated!

Unitpaedia is done, even for the near 50 new units added to the roosters.
It have 10 campaign (latest is the Ukraine one with 7 scenario) mostly based on fictional events (hope so, see main post).
9 stand-alone scenarios, I recommend SAS8 & SAS9 to try! "8" is a huge 5000x5000 pixels map with lots of scenario-exclusive units, the "9" is a good match of themes (listen the music and you would not miss the culture reference).

Glitches may still exists albeit tried to exterminate as many as I could. Not in the shape to progress swiftly, sorry!
+ Not promise any new campaigns in the foreseeable future. Sorry...

A part may be based on future events...
One thing about the future is that it tends to partially repeat the past.
We've already seen we got another "poker" player that likes to play for empires like old uncle Adolf.
For that one to get quiet it took the destruction of a great part of Europe, not counting the rest.
I'm not seeing much reason not to see that basic model repeated one of these days: just not all the details will match, of course.
One detail that matches closely is that while most of Europe is hoping it does not happen the "poker" player spent decades injecting hatred, contempt, imperialism and racism on his people. Not all of them bought it but unfortunately they are a minority.
So, at this point I'm just waiting to see when will it be, the "next step on the accelerator"...

What was I saying back there?
Active theater of war number 2 is now active.
More campaigns for Duke Falcon's modern e~file.
The doubt now is whether # 2 is enough to ignite the "big one" or if a number 3 will be required.
The obvious candidate for that is much further east but its main actress does not feel she is ready yet.
So, she is patiently sitting and watching how things turn out...

So, if China attacks Taiwan (if you meant that) then India would think it's time to solve their problems with China. In which case Pakistan would try it's turn on India... A cool series of events, enough material for a stand-alone PC-game...

But I let ModWar rest a bit. I working on something else slowly now...

PeG II.
If considering just the easternmost portion.
The list of "actors" is of course longer even considering just the "frictions" that are already evident.
All the countries around the sea of China are having trouble with their neighbour.
As is the Island-Continent further southeast.

But I'm more inclined to the occurrence of the "big one". The one in which all the "local storms" will get fused.
All the "local storms" are (in)directed against the same target...
If that target exhibits any very evident sign of weakness on dealing with the already active theaters...
The tiger is naturally programmed to jump at a fleeing prey...

But I started upload videos how I play Fantasy General:

It's like kind of a new hobby or such... I plan to add some more new content to my YouTube channel of varied themes.

Love the Xeno General efile! Exactly the kind of fighting I was looking for after Anomalous Operations. I like how the first campaign progressively gives you all these overpowered Taeron units and then you're stuck fighting for your life against them in the next Terran campaign and the Mantid one with its monstrously long first scenario which feels like a campaign in itself. I've really come to despise brutes, S.H.O.Gs and Taeron guards. :clap

Believe me, if you may start to play the Red Guard campaign you'll learn to curse my name!
I created that campaign and even I cursed myself many times playing it... Well, self-hatred is a dangerous booby-trap I think...

:uzi :uzi :uzi
I also - again - in a huge delay with my current e-file... Surprise! Is there anything I ever done and finished in time..?
Pfft... Hardly, baby!
:o

But I managed to decrease a bit the delay. 70% of the icons are assembled and saved as nice, little PNGs...
However the ships and trains would kick down the lamp from the ceiling with their sizes! Wooo-hoooo! Huuuuge icons, we shall see how OG would struggle to display them!
Just need to figure out how to set-up certain things for the campaign where I DO NOT WANT a core, maybe a single commanding unit, everything else the player must buy for that current, ongoing scenario and manage the monetary things well otherwise...
And I need to assembling\remix some music for it what I already planned how-and-what, just... Yeah, my attention is a bit disrupted lately: Manage my YouTube, care tenderly my Ko-Fi, working on my e-file and I also work on a NWN module since 2000 aswell... (But I made a lot of alternate drider models and now try to turn a mustard jelly model to a kind-of shoggoth...)

So, sorry again, it seems, well, I lost in my own Dark Imaginaerum. Realitae and Veritae seems so far-far away now...

And just to pestering your mind and soul, dudes!

And here, deep in my own, dark Imaginaerum,
Surrounded by the relics of remorse and sorrow,
Queen sit upon a golden throne, majestic,
Rule my world's ruins firmly, in my dark Imaginaerum...
Lost tales, untold secrets, chances,
Hopes, choices! Ran, ran and vanished, tarnished,
Tattered and weathered by the sick thoughts,
Basic boulders of my wicked, dark Imaginaerum...

Because of a Windows collapse I lost most of the maps of my current project (46 maps range from 1920x1920 to 5000x5000)...
A good lesson: Never let anything to save\store anything on the same drive where your Windows creeps!

...

Ja, good lesson afterward...

But why did you lose your work?
If Windows crashed and the hard drive was working --> did you reinstall Windows and format the drive?

It was not possible to start the computer from an external drive?

Connecting the drive with your work - to another computer?

It's a painful lesson
There are security options
For example, you can store files for free on Google Drive
I also have a 1000 GB portable drive connected via USB
Additionally, the old computer serves as a place for an archive
I used to burn my work to DVDs ...

But why did you lose your work?
Windows partially killed itself. I planned to move those files for USB, I usually do that every 6 months (that's why I only lost the maps and not the whole e-file).
It started with slow loss of free space. I launch Window's own Disk cleanup what started to remove files. Halfway the PC suddenly restarted and the Windows dropped back a security save point made in April. Windows barely worked, stated systems files are missing (the idiot deleted those for itself) so I ran a repair. Then reinstall stuffs like Adobe-things, TerraGen, OpenOffice, everything what were on the Window's SSD (Because even those what seemed intact were refused to read\open by the Windows, it automatically deleted them after a log file were shown).
Now the reinstalled OG and all my e-file projects are on the other SSD.
The problem were caused by an update for Windows what caused it "forget" to clean up temp and cache folders. Since I not installed that update again the "loss of free space" bug vanished.
Windows is a strange thing. Still wonder what the hell it did to essentially castrated itself with Disk cleanup... But sure made me very sad...
And it's a Win7, most stable from all the 64bit Windowses (no joke!)... I miss my good, atomic-proof XP, dammit...

A story like something out of a fantasy

I used Win XP for a long time, also Win 7 --> I switched to Win11Pro for over a year
I have been using CCleaner (not tools built into Win) for all these systems for many years
I also recommend a program to monitor the entire computer - HWiNFO64
It will show the temperatures of individual computer components - processor, graphics cards, disks, motherboard
Disk usage, remaining percentage of their use, failures, exceedances, etc.

As for Win7 - it is no longer supported and there are no updates ...
I would check this disk (which Win crashed on it) to see if it is functional and has all clusters in order ... have you defragmented it in the past?

Fantasy? More of a nightmare...
I mean I knew Win OSs could kill themselves but the last Win I saw done this were the legendary Win95.
And albeit not supported any longer the updates still available and the OS still able to find them automatically (most of them).
Things now work fine again. Managed to revive\reinstall everything and check&destroy Win temp folders weekly (still not manage temp and cache remove for itself). HWinfo or Avast or anything else I use for checking (MemTest and Radeon has a checking\recording software on it's own) showed nothing. But things normal again (only Firefox bomb me a XUL error but that's because I revived FF and not reinstalled, means nothing).
Oh +1! Now Windows refuse to acknowledge DT virtual drives set up. I need to re-mount everything after every start\restart. I guess it's Windows idiotism again. It forced me to buy Rites of War on GoG but meh! GoG version runs smoother and the music not bugged anymore.

The bright side that I can re-shape the plans of the campaign. Now I can make some different maps built on ideas recently borned from the chaos of my mind! And maybe I have ideas for some very hard, only "BV achieved" maps :evil
And now cavalry also added to the equipment as a cheaper alternative of motorized infantry. I planned some maps where it would be important to spend money wisely when purchasing units.

Fantasy? More of a nightmare...
This is a badly translated word ..
I meant - improbable, rare, strange
Yes, I have experienced similar experiences when the hard drive broke down, clusters were damaged - then Windows went crazy ...

For me, Win7 was also sufficient and I resisted replacing it with a newer system for a long time
But I was forced by the applications I use
- Firefox did not want to install a newer version
- OBS, did not support all the features as on Win11
- Google Drive did not want to synchronize folders --> I had to do everything after logging into my Google account --> it is more convenient to work on a local folder
- Irfanview also did not update

What bad came with Win 11?
All older equipment (printer, scanner for photo films) lost the ability to install their software to support this equipment
They work in a basic scope under Win11 (which is not always sufficient)

As protection against damage - disk, system, against data encryption by bad software --> I use disk cloning to another external disk (it lies in a drawer and in case of problems it is enough to swap disks - the computer starts as if nothing had happened, zero software installation)

I think I set my current, vastly lating and delaying project to "pending" state...

A vast amount of reconsideration seems necessary about it. I made some test and I recognised some serious design flaws...
The e-file
- let resupply only on supply hexes (cities) or by dedicate supply crafts...
- large, larger than 3000x3000 maps become impossible to accomplish...
- rise the number of supply units seems to put AI in trouble...
- rise the number of supply units with broad fronts put insane amount of extra management of the player...
- most units are slow, move but 3-5 hexes and sports low fuel (20-30)...
- most would find so many extra-troubles unacceptable considering you would have no core units (only if there is a way to fix max core number around 4-5!)...

I must come up with some balance ideas for those. Also must figure out how to make AI 3.0 to attack "must survive" units of the player (currently the AI seems to attack generally, not aims "designated" targets)...

Xeno General has it's complete package. That contains both the patch and the alternate lines campaign, apart from some other contents.
The little pictures at the bottom of the first post are obsolate. I kpet them because I like them and they could be usefull once in the future.

Greetings!

A surprise, 3-months development e-file for you:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/zgf95p4p ... e.zip/file

A YouTube video about it:
https://youtu.be/RzdRmBGfT48

And of course, credits:

Code: Select all

This E-file may never happened without certain persons well deserved to get credits!

First, foremost and uttermost an extreme huge thanks for BBC because they created and still run the outstanding
sci-fi show "Doctor Who"! Without them and their Doctor Who show this e-file would not exists. Huge thank you
once again, BBC!

Also noteworthy that all content in this e-file are fan-content based on copyrighted materials! All copyright of
the Daleks, Cybermen, Movellan or any other featured races strictly belongs to BBC!

For the graphic bases a big thanks for Fairline and the Civilization-forums! I used their beautyfull graphics as
bases for my slight graphical modifications or to create some new units for this e-file. Without them and their
graphical geniuses this e-file would took years longer to accomplish if ever!

Further graphics used are sprites from X-com 1&2 (OpenXcom forum members, you created more stuffs with higher
quality than I did, thank you very much!), Sim City 2000, while the map bases were created in the map editor of
Heroes of Might&Magic 2! All these put together in PhotoShop.

The music belongs to BBC! The theme were remixed by ShayProd on YouTube!

Videos are edited from materials found on YouTube. Those were featured on many different channels and could not
found out which one were the original author. But whoever was that, damn excellent job you have done! Thank you!
Thanks everyone!

P.S.: When the forum would be less slow and prone to collapse (bot invasion again?!) I need to clean up my first post and get rid of obsolate stuff there...

I watched your video. I downloaded the e-file and played part of the first scenario.
I recorded a 9-minute video from it - 1280x720@30.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nrx9ch ... sp=sharing

I like the music.
I'd have to get used to these icons and what each means.

I have a few technical notes --> if you don't need them --> let me know.
The red text is hard to read - especially at lower resolutions.
Of course, it depends on the background colors (especially the map).

The video you recorded is 960x720@60.
When recording OG, I think 30 frames/second is sufficient, or even 25 --> if you can see blur during movement --> then you can use more...
My video is about 30 MB, how many MB is yours?

I used to make maps like yours (intense colors and overlaid raster) --> but I gave up on that --> some icons may be hard to see (if someone has poor eyesight, the colors blend together - that's what happened to me)

1. I know some texts are hard to read on low-res (I use 1280x1024) but it's the font. Dalek font is not low-res friendly. But it's the font relates to the theme, I have little to no choice about it...
2. The video I recorded were 1280x9XX, checked it (and 1.35 GB) but whenever I upload to YouTube YouTube convert my vids for dumb resolutions. I checked through all possible YouTube settings, cannot change that. It's YT's utter idiocracy. I am aware it and a few times mentioned it in descriptions under my videos. I use the RadeonRelive's factory setting for "high quality" since I basically use the recording for MWO purposes. Also, because the recorded videos are awfully large (1-5GB per video) I delete them after upload. Imagine what YouTube would do with my videos if I may use lower recording quality... Idiot YouTube...
3. Maps were hard to choose by style. Fairline made excellent icons for Civ and some PeG\OG mods. I used his icons as base for edit\extend to create this e-file. I wanted maps what fit in style. Luckily Heroes of Might&Magic 2's map editor fitted well, then I searched through the "Spriters' resources" webpage for isometric building sprites. Tumbled upon SimCity 2000 spritesheets. Mix&match and fit perfectly for the icons' style!
4. I tinkered much about the icons to makethem distinguishable. Dalek colour schemes are uniformal so I need to play with the bumps and other features to make them less uniform. Many of them thus not "true to the show".
5. Music is from YouTube, I just tinkered the volume here&there. See credits!

Actually, this e-file is half-done. Only one campaign, no single scenarios. But I plan to expand it later. I just wanted to made and present something here, for the community, because I am very unproductive lately...

YouTube recommended resolutions are:
SD 854x480
HD 1280x720
FHD 1920x1080
2K 2560x1440
4K 4096 x 2160

If you upload a video in a different resolution --> it will always be resized to the first one below yours --> the heights are important.
E.g. 1280x900 --> 1024x720
1280x960 --> 960x720
1280x1024 --> 900x720

I always edit my video in VSDC Free Video Editor after shooting it. This allows you to change the resolution and quality, reducing the file size.
Also, remember about audio – YouTube will lower the quality for the average viewer.
Therefore, it's a good idea to set the audio to 128 kb/s, stereo 44100 Hz.
Better settings are available for those who pay for the service.

One more note: It's better to select "full screen" and not show the Windows bar. This adds about 40 pixels vertically for the game.

Image

If you're recording at a resolution of, say, 1280x960, it's better to upload the resulting video to YouTube at 1080p, meaning 1440x1080. With a good codec, it will be smaller than the original.

forum working awfully, indeed... on Youtube can't give much advices, except those about content if you get me, fast cars and underwear if you are into money :lol

but seriously, after looking at video, and since i some time ago commented your other works and commented "blending" or fiting of maps in units in them which wasn't so successful nor pleasing to eyes - in contrast in this mod of yours it is very nice and in concert or harmony :yes since i looked video before reading your words, there was that "seen this somewhere" impression about maps and you explained, so HoMM 2 based, again maps and units fit well... they are also, i think, perfect option for some your older fantasy mods etc.

already told, on productivity you should be ashamed of yourself :) but as i said no doubt your mods are top of all i seen in quart of cent around ; ...as minor note, glad even that you mentioned WH 40k older games so i got rites of war and final liberation etc, great fun, but generally no much time as desired to try even this, hope i will at least try.... on playing issues, hate 1 hex moving units :) thanks for mods, btw.
