Hello, newcomer here!

Post by gomez99 »

Hello!
Tidying in the attic I came across the PG1 and PG2 game CDs. Last century :lol I used to play them quite often and I really liked them. Now I searched the internet and to my surprise and joy, I came across this forum. Trying to load the games, I came across a list of files of various types I should use. I know how to use office and browsers, but when it comes to installing, apart from downloading and installing something that has an installation file, I am a total beginner. English is not my native language.
I would especially appreciate if someone would have enough time and patience to guide me through this maze.
I have two desktops, one with WIN7 and one with WIN10. PG1 loaded quite slowly on both, PG2 I couldn't, I suppose the disks are also old. On WIN7, PG1 runs acceptable, on WIN10 it moves very slowly, almost frame by frame.
best regards

:welcome to the Open General forums !
Do you speak Spanish ?
If so I can move this topic to the Spanish forum and guide you in Spanish if you prefer.
Anyway as you are interested in OpenGeneral rather than Peoples General (PeG), I'd move your topic out of PeG subforum :yes

Hello, thanks for answering so quickly! No, I don't speak Spanish, I speak Romanian :)
Actually in PeG I am interested, I am more familiar with it. I am not sure I understood what is Open General.

As you didn't mention PeG I thought you were interested in PG1 and PG2 :huh

OpenGeneral (the reason for this forum) is the evolution for PG2 with many enhancements, it is free and you can install very easily, using the (All-in-One) Installer (InstallOpenGeneral.exe) available at https://www.open-general.com/

LE: I thought that PeG and PG are the same game, I understand now that actually the original has "branched"

Hello, thanks for answering!
I read some of the posts on other sites and here, and I find many references to map files, e-files, and others, which can/may/should be loaded for the game. Somewhere else I found a program which was supposed to change some type of file in another type of file.
I can download and set up the game, but I am totally lost when comes to adding maps, equipment, new scenarios, and the way maps, equipment and such files affect/modify the game. And how I can make them work properly on win10 (if possible)
I downloaded the napoleon campaign, and it works satisfactory on win7, goes slooooow on win10 if at all.
regards
