Hi Luis
I don't know if we understand each other well..
I will present the problem once again using the example of only one map creator (selected Gustlik maps - not all)
We are now talking about maps made for PG2 (8-bit colors, indexed) --> mandatory png file, and .map file, and txt with names
You can see it in the screenshot (combined drawing for several maps)
- most maps do not have a .map file --> number 695, 700 (has a mapx file), 701, 702 (has a mapx file), 703, 704, 705, 867, 938, and others not shown here
- most maps do not have a png file --> number 695, 700, 701, 702, 703, 704, 705, and others not shown

Maps 942 and 952 are correct

Was the removal of png files from these (and other) maps conscious/intentional? - we are talking about maps made during PG2

Of course, the lack of . map files is a mistake

Other map creators have the same (some less, others more) - the scale of the problem is large

Hi Luis

Well, I think I do understand you, but the point is that I have no idea why so many maps are missing currently.

I'll ask Gilestiel to see if he has backups to help understand what's happening ...

Edited:
I've mailed Gilestiel about the issue.

I've checked the files at MF server: 990 map/mapx; 423 png files; and 1675 jpg files.

My local backup (maps I've uploaded) has: 712 map/mapx; 552 png files and 583 jpg files
The first map I uploaded to MF was map 952 (17/02/2013)

I could restore all .png and map/max files that I have uploaded to MF from my local backup
but I prefer to wait for Gilestiel answer.

Thank you very much Luis

My interest and writing about MF is emotional
This site united the entire PG/Peg/OG community
It is the only map search engine in many areas

Remember that my maps are an exception? --> most of them were sent in jpg format, except for early maps for PEG --> currently all without exception can be in jpg

Here is a small digression for the uninitiated
PEG currently distributes maps with the game - Micha returned all reserved map numbers - they were used for maps for OG
Also .map files for PEG are different than for PG2/OG

It also works the other way around
Kowdar, when converting campaigns from PEG to OG, needed changed images for maps
These maps are delivered with the campaign (they are not in the MF maps pack)

Anyway if someone find any missing file yet, please report here and if possible send it to me by email to upload too.

Thanks a lof to Gilestiel for his unvaluable hep :bow :notworthy :bow

Thanks again :bow :bow :bow

Now MF is probably twice as big as before
I've seen even 3 files - .map/mapx for one map
I've also found an addition to two maps 910 and 991

@ Major Heinz
Are these shp files - for your WK2 campaign - already in MF? --> if not --> send them to Luis..

I've always used this program (7zip) - for speed I made it in its own format --> I'll make it in normal zip format (although it's also a 7zip program)
I've been using it for a long time and never thought about changing ...

Yes I know 7z.exe, and I use too to create .zip files ... but my question actually was : where did you find that 991_910-7z file ?
Did you find at MapFinder ?

File hel2.map - for map 910 - is a file made by Gustlik, for some campaign from the PG2 era
This is a change of terrain in relation to the original hel.map file (I don't remember what it changes now)
Save from 21.03.2006 - old CD

Map 991 is my first map sent to MF
These shp and Orneta.map files are from 17.09.2012 and were attached to the map 991
This is what the save on the old CD says

Another map bug, noted at Gilestiels:

There is "178 - Tarakan - Borneo", and there is "1570 - Tarakan 3k - Indonesia"... :huh
This is a difficult one, Borneo actually being an island divided into 3 countries (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia), but whatever you choose the two Tarakans should be in the same category. I'd vote for "Borneo" even if it's not a country, since Balikpapan (298, 1491) is already referenced there, and back in WWII they both were part of Dutch Borneo, and both targets of Japan's quest for oil. It makes them easier to find through the filters.

And since we're in "this is an island, not a country" discussions, there are three maps (196, 200, 220) referenced "Hawai". But "1372 - Pearl Harbor", also on Hawai, is referenced "USA". I'd suggest to put those three "Hawais" also to "USA"...

There are many such (very old) bugs at mapfinder. Maps assigned to a wrong country or split into several countries or assigned to entities that are not even a country.
For example, Midway is part of the British Virgin Islands. Borneo (not a country) shows the flag of Brunei. And so on...

When i submitted my Tarakan map long after the other Tarakan map was created, I of course chose Indonesia, because Borneo is not a country and Tarakan is part of Indonesia nowadays.

Well, it had to show something, and it couldn't possibly show the flag of Borneo... :lol

Yes, we already had a discussion about this, contemporary vs. modern, Bombay vs. Mumbai, and so on. It's the problem of shoehorning historic geography into modern geography (which is a rather mobile target, especially now the post-WWII era of peace is over and blunt imperialism is becoming acceptable again). :dunno

Anyway, my bug report above was mostly about putting identical locations into the same country, since I think most scenario creators proceed like me, they search by country, and so might miss something. I nearly missed your Tarakan map after finding a Tarakan and Balikpapan under "Borneo" (which was my first search, given it is under "B", and they were part of Dutch Borneo back then. I admit I have no clue to whom they belong to today).
