I'm surprised by the high number of views on CC 74, but I'm not sure if it was just a lot of bots or real users.
Either way. Maybe the campaign was really interesting to everyone out there because it involved battles from the end of the 19th century and WW1.
I'll take this interest as an opportunity and play Urica's “Weltkrieg 1914-1918” below. The second reason is that there is no AAR for this campaign in the forum so far, because all the old reports with JP's have disappeared.

The first shots have been fired ...Sarajevo ... and now there is no turning back.

Good morning, General. Just as you expected, the French have mobilized their troops in a matter of hours, and they are ready to invade Elsass and Lothringen. Since most of our divisions are in Belgium executing the Schlieffen Plan, that means that our enemies have numerical superiority in this region. It's essential that you hold Mülhausen long enough, slowing the French advance and forcing them to send reinforcements to Elsass, weakening their defences in the west.

Victory conditions:
- After 9 turns you must hold 4 VHs for a BV, 3 VHs for a V or 1 VH for a TacV.
... and so began the Great War

On closer inspection, it looks simple at first: The scattered German units march south from the northern part of the map by the fastest route, reinforcing the defenders of the 4 German VH in the center.
Defense is often easier than attack. This statement is only partially true here, because the Germans are inexperienced and have big problems with the French, who have much more experience. The skillful use of the field command with CS function and the non-stop support from the artillery prevent a disastrous start to the campaign.
Enemy flags remain out of reach - as does the prestige to be gained there. However, because the prestige cap is very close, I even take the liberty of repairing a few units in green whose health was in a life-threatening condition.

Schlacht in Lothringen

Aug 20th, 1914

The main French attack is taking place in Lothringen, where in fact they've managed to penetrate deep into our lines. If we don't stop them even Metz and Strassburg could be in danger. Gather your troops, counterattack and drive the French out of Germany!

Victory conditions:
- Take all the VHs.

The first battle in this war that I have to fight offensively. For the first time, I have an air unit at my disposal. It is technically immature and can really only be used for reconnaissance. 2 Ammunition can be used with SA = 1 (HA = 0) and only has a moral effect on the enemy.

Aux units are available in the north-east. I have high hopes for them. They should conquer the VH in the north-west. The task is accomplished with some minor difficulties.
My core units + some aux units march to the first VH in the center of the map. There are first contacts with the enemy and after a few turns the VH is in my hands.

Then I continue south. First I have to cross the Marne-Rhine Canal. Fortunately, all the roads/bridges are intact and no bridge pioneers are needed. The battle for the last three VH is difficult and costly. There is still some prestige to be gained in distant French flags, but the turn limit for the BV is too close and so I end at this point.

Who could have thought that Von Schlieffen's Plan would fail? It seems that the war will be much longer than we had expected.
Although the main battles are taking place in the west, you know that the situation in Elsass isn't exactly calm. Right now the front is stabilized on the Vogesen mountains, but the French have occupied the strategic peak called Hartmannsweilerkopf. There they have an excellent advanced position for observating our movements on the plains of Elsass, or for launching a new offensive against Mülhausen. Your mission will be driving the French out of the mountains as fast as you can.

Victory conditions:
- Take all the VHs.

Special note:
- The unit that takes Hartmannsweilerkopf will obtain a leader.
A surprisingly short scenario.
The infantry exchanged their horses for motorized transport at HQ. I invested in artillery in anticipation of increasingly entrenched units.

Since the failure of Von Schlieffen's Plan we've been forced to adopt a defensive strategy in France. The Entente forces have numerical superiority and they are well aware of that. Now they'll try once and again to break our lines with all the means at their disposal, and after that they'll send all their reserves into the gap, hoping to cut our supply lines and encircle our units.
Our intelligence system has warned us that one of those attacks is going to take place very soon here, at Neuve-Chapelle. Four British divisions, including some of their colonial forces, are ready to storm your positions. You've repelled similar attacks in Elsass last year, so we count on you to stop the British. Good luck!

Victory conditions:
- After 10 turns you must hold 7 VHs for a BV, 4 VHs for a V or 2 VH for a TacV.
Very difficult. The defenders have to withstand high attacking pressure. This is not possible in all positions and some aux units retreat or are destroyed.
Recapturing the VHs is a complicated task. The first thing I manage to do in the north is to achieve a superiority of forces and decimate the enemy to such an extent that I can roll up the front line piece by piece from there.
In the center, the battle swings back and forth. The British keep bringing reinforcements into the field, but they can be held back.
The situation in the south is not good. I can't bring in any reinforcements and so the last VH ends up in British hands. It was one VH too few for a BV. A few extra turns would have helped me ...

Zweite Flandernschlacht - St. Julien

When the "Race to the Sea" ended last year and the front stabilized, a salient was formed around Ypern, whose conquer has become a matter of great importance for us. Strategically speaking, there are some small heights there that would be extremely useful as observation points. But its symbolic importance may be even greater. In october thousands of good German soldiers, including young students and other volunteers, gave their lives in this very same area, trying to take Langemarck. It is our duty to avenge them and show the world that they didn't die in vain.

Two days ago we released tons of chlorine gas against the French defences located north of Pilkem, and it worked extremely well. Two enemy divisions either died or had to run for their lives, opening a large gap in the Entente lines. It's a pity that we don't have enough reserves to break the enemy front completely, but with your help we can still take advantage from the use of the gas. Push through the gap, in Kitchener's Wood and St. Julien, and most of the Ypern salient will be gone. But be careful, there are two British divisions in the area, and the surviving French could regroup and counterattack, too.

Victory conditions:
- Take all the VHs.
First brief contact with poison gas.

At first glance, it looks like an easy task - the enemy VHs are only a few hexes away from my units. But it's not that easy, because I first have to fend off the British attack. This works well, especially because I have invested in support weapons such as artillery and machine guns, for which the large supply of ammunition is particularly important. This means that almost all attacks by enemy infantry can be neutralized.

Just as we feared, the British have launched a massive autum offensive near Loos, with the intention of breaking through our defences and forcing us to fight in the open. They'll stop at nothing to succeed. They're even using poisonous gas, those barbaric islanders!

The British offensive has been well planned, but it seems that they're being too slow executing it. That could give us the precious time we need to send our reserves to the open gaps and contain the enemy swarm. Right now one of the most dangerous zones is our observation position at the Hohenzollern Redoute, a series of fortifications and trenches near Auchy-les-Mines. The British know that it's one of our strong defence points, so they've sent some of their best troops to conquer it. We count on you to defend the redoubt at all costs and to defeat our enemies.

Victory conditions:
- Take all the VHs.

Special note: In this scenario the "skip first player turn" option is activated.
At HQ I improved the light cavalry and invested in two 7.7cm FK 96 n/A.

I intend to use the 7.7cm FK 96 n/A as a standard artillery unit. For me it is the best combination of power, mobility and ammunition supply in the Kaiser-Efile. I convinced myself of these advantages this week during a visit to the “Museum of the First World War” in Ingolstadt (Bavaria/Germany).

Despite my intensive preoccupation with the topic of the First World War outside of the game, it was of no effective use to me in the game - I missed the BV by one turn.
The British were too strong and too aggressive in the south-eastern section of the front and got me into trouble. In the middle section (center), poison gas was used in large quantities and decimated my defense considerably. The chlorine gas clouds work like heavy bombers with two munitions and very little movement and fuel. The effect on soft targets is devastating. There is no possibility of defense.

Verdun: Unternehmen Gericht

Feb 21st, 1916

Attrition. That's the ultimate goal of our new operation. We can't break through the Entente lines, nor can we defend ourselves forever. So we'll set a trap for the French Army. We'll launch an offensive against Verdun and its ring of forts. Naturally, taking the town would be very important, but what the OHL really wants is forcing the French to counterattack in order to retake the lost terrain. Then we'll be able to annihilate them with our artillery fire, standing on safe positions.

If the plan goes well the French will lose most of their reserves, and then they'll be forced to accept our peace conditions. Yes, you're right, General. Our plan at Verdun isn't working as we had expected. Certainly, the French are fighting like lions and are forcing us to take a heavy toll for every centimetre of terrain that we conquer. But once we expell them from one position, their counterattacks are rare.
One of the main reasons is that our long range artillery hasn't been able to neutralize theirs, so the French guns are constantly harassing our infantry, which has been exposed to enemy fire since the offensive began. The French don't really need to bleed themselves with useless counterattacks.
We should have stormed the French artillery batteries located on the west bank of the Maas from the very beginning, but now it's too late to regret that mistake. You must correct it now, but be careful. It won't be an easy task. The French are heavily entrenched, and from the higher terrain they'll be able to spot all of your moves. But if your troops are fast, they`ll reach the objectives before the enemy sends its reserves.

At HQ, I sold all mobilized Landwehr and Infantry 16 units.
With the prestige I acquired powerful Pioneers 16, Guards Infantry 16 and new artillery.
The battle was very successful. To cross the river between me and the French troops, the Supreme Army Command provided several bridge engineers as auxiliary units. The efforts of my units were rewarded with four new leaders.

Welcome to the Eastern Front, General. It's frustrating after all of your efforts at Verdun, but it seems that the Russians and the British have finally come to the rescue of France. The Russian offensive, planned by Alexei Brussilow, has been the most surprising initiative that we've seen in years. It's pierced the seemingly strong Austro-Hungarian defences like a hot knife through butter, and now our allies desperately need our help. That's the reason why you're here.

The next step of the Russians offensive is the taking of Kowel, in Wolynien. However, now that they've concentrated a large number of troops in the area, they seem to be reverting to the tactic of human wave assaults that have been so unsuccessful since the war started. So, even though we're at a disadvantage, we have a real chance to stop the Russians here.

Victory conditions:

Heavy battle with heavy losses. The Russian Tsar and his generals send wave after wave of attacks against my defenders. With the help of my powerful artillery, I can hold my positions and only have to retreat minimally. However, my first attempts to launch a counter-offensive and take the necessary VHs also lead to critical moments.
