ICONS: Requests

Post by randowe »

+++ Starting with requests made after January 2018, this thread is a copy of the latest icon requests from the icon requests thread at JP's. +++
Rohan wrote:Back after 9 years on this forum - I went through my own equipment file, vs the remaining icons in Open General.

Here are my requests for new icons:

USA P-61 Black Widow - this was a significant aircraft during WWII, I'm surprised it's not in there. I have to use a P-38 Lightning as a stand-in for this one.
Germany FW 190 - of course there are several of them, but they are a little messy
UK mosquito bombers- there are several of these too, but they could be improved
Japan kyushu q1w tokai
Japan Nakajima Ki-87
Japan p1y Ginga
Japan kawasaki ki-102
Japan ki-109 otsu

And I noticed that with WW2 Greece all the infantry are obsolete, could use some new ones then if the obsolete ones are going to be deleted in a new update

I am going to try working on some these icons myself, BUT in the past, I was not very good at it.

And this isn't really an icon request, but a labeling request. For representing resistance fighters/Maquis/Partisans/Insurgents, etc. icons BND81, BND83, JCP81, JCK58, JKS80 are all good, but it would be hard for someone to find them by searching for key words. There may be others I haven't found yet.

After I viewed the icon database of Open General, I believe it is necessary to restore the icons for Chinese infantry from 1905 to 2019.
I can provide the detailed information about the uniforms and weapons which was used by Chinese military in different period of time.
Is there anyone interested on restore Chinese Infantry Icons?
Maxdivi wrote:I'm not following forum and last changes since a time....any news about the "new style" WW2 infantry icons missing( Romania, Yugoslavia, Nationalist China, ecc. )? Or maybe some new for Kaiser WW1 ( e.g. Anzac in desert dress for Gallipoli campaign)?

And where I can find the daily update icon list for openincons.dat( i think you changed web site)?

Thanks and greet to all :howdy

Right now, it's prioritary for me to check already done scenarios in order to get a full compatibility with tiled maps on Kaiser and GCE Efiles. After that, continue working on "new style" icons will be my main target.
Anyway I got time to make many "new style" icons past months. Just waiting to get descriptions ready (I'm always too lazy for that task) before sending to Csaba the complete package, (hopefully in the comming weeks). :secret
Oh thanks! I'm returning sometimes on the forum looking for game updates :howdy

Which is the situation now? I found nice romanian and hungarian infantry new style in latest version, I hope the works is going on.

So my request is still Communist and nationalist China WW2, or as Randowe already asked :p Vietcong and South Vietnam set in Jankuar style, or maybe boer, redcoats brits, schutztruppe, colonial dress anzac, because I want to play old Kaiser campaign in full new style :howdy
+++ I am not sure if this one has been finished and delivered? +++
Gustlik wrote:I asked about this some time ago but....

What about Czechoslovak self propelled howitzer Dana?
Also Mi-2 helo in default style would be nice.
Juankar75 wrote:Sorry Gustlik, I never forgot your request. Had almost finished when I deleted some .psd files by mistake last Christmas, Dana was one of them. :bonk
Then lost motivation and concentrated on new tiles for maps, until I started again from scratch three months ago. Now it's at 50% done. We'll have a SPG Dana, count with it.

Wow, nice one :clap I would take it as it is. Please send it to Csaba. You can use the following description for the umarmed or armed version.
Icon seems to show the version without 20mm gun.

Bergepanzerwagen V Panther (Sd.Kfz. 179); grey; Engineer Vehicle; WW2 Germany
Bergepanzerwagen V Panther (Sd.Kfz. 179) 20 mm KwK 30 L / 55; grey; Engineer Vehicle; WW2 Germany

the standard colors for the ww2 german vehicles are something like these:

http://www.open-general.com/icons.php?o ... s=pat&oia=

the most importants are: grey (not this alu-grey, but the original pat-style grey), sand, panzergrau, winter/white

+ green for jungle iconset and brown/green/sand/camo for the western front after 1943 (see Bob C's "rc" icons) can be added, but are less important

I could add camoflague not just plain colours upon my templates. But who adopt the icons? I will not be an icon maker albeit I provide templates for those whom need certain icons whenever I have talent, chance and\or time. Just not want to be an icon maker and have any more DFxxx icons. Consider me retired or such :)
Perhaps I may create a thread somewhere like "DF's mindless template collections 4 iconmakers" or such...

randowe is very talented photoshop user, so i guess he can create the color layers, somewhere in the templates pack there should be Juankar's standardized photoshop hue+saturation layers for the cold war color variants, i guess they can be used for ww2 vehicles too (i use gimp, sligthly with different color layer schemes) or if you ask Oliver (von Schweini), he can help how to make the excellent not-too-saturated greyish green, sand and brown colors what he used for his zy* vehicles and planes. there is only one strict point: don't recolorize the bg, black parts (like gears) and the shadow of the vehicle (it's #484848 on most pat-style icons)

Here there are 7 version from Panzergrün to woodland. For winter the basic (see attached link over in an earlier post) is good or adequate not looks like a 16-colours EGA icon. Those you may find adequate or useful christen to LV or whatever just not DF.

And perhaps delete some of these posts after icons' check as we went tid-bit off-topic.
True that PS users could easily add multiply\overlay mask over my templates to colour them (I do the same with locked layers) but I not know how GIMP may handle this. So for any of my later TEMPLATES (as if declaration for would-be users) you could easily colour in PhotoShop (or I may describe somewhere how do I?) or GIMP (someone may also explain this kind of method).

And thanks all your patience - I know I need a lot of patience to deal with :)

I use most of the vehicle + infantry icons, but winter versions are not so important for me because the vehicle + infantry icons are somewhat special. I don't know about other designers? But, while you are at it, maybe you can add a romanian R-2 + infantry and a italian M13/40 + infantry. I forgot those when i made mine.

Btw, what about the french tanks Bobby Fitzmarcel postet at JP's? Should we add them? I'd volunteer to write the descriptions.

he posted ugly jpg files, i asked the original png files but never asnwered, maybe you can send him a pm too

+1 if you adopt Duke's bergepanther, his panzergrau is absolutely okay, the sand is close too, but the camo files are too saturated compared to the existing colorset

there is no planned release date, i'm just working a bit on icons too

regarding "inf + vehicle", first i want to finish the german and soviet icons, then i can work on other nations too, so please add italian and romanian units to the wishlist for now

I wrote a message to Bobby at JP's. Let's hope he will log in there :ihope

As for the Bergepanther, i wanted to paint it in the standard grey. I'd use the silver one and maybe i can copy parts of a existing Panther tank with the correct light grey. Just give me a year :lol

Not a request per se, rather a question: is there any icon of a crashed airplane (preferably JU 52) similar to the few icons of destroyed tanks? Thanks for info!

As far as i know, there is no such icon. Only a grounded Ju 52 or Spitfire with some grass, desert, etc. around. Like this one:

I'm making a couple scenarios around the invasion of Norway (Weserübung) and noticed all Norwegian WW2 infantry icons are "obsolete"!
Could somebody please consider updating them? At least the basic units of all the main WW2 actors should be up to date...

Leon made some ww2 norwegian infantry icons. They are included in the openicons files.

Now that's strange. I'm using the latest 0.93.4.2RC, so I should have them, shouldn't I? :huh
(My EFile uses the standard OpenIcons.dat, I don't have personalized icons.)

Thanks anyway, I'll check again in case I missed them somehow.

Hello :howdy

I searching for the old Icons of Infantrie. I want to bring back the old PG II style. I found an old Open General Version from 2014 with the old icons like this:
Image

here are the new style (that I don´t like so much)
Image

I know that in pass, there are two versions of OpenIcons.dat, one in new style and one in old style - but I don´t find the version in the old style. Can somebody help me?
