Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
In old good times, when people spent time with Panzer General 2 instead of doing something productive, how did you deal with the player and AI units visibility information - fog of war information or black and red binoculars information currently available with Open General? I just wonder, as it's a quite important information to have.
Did you just check your and enemy units all the time to see how far do they see?

In the old days of PG2, when there were only 5 official campaigns - people played them all the time and some knew them by heart
Later, they made modifications on the same maps and based on the same scenarios
Hardware developed slowly
Those who played were also the creators of new maps and equipment - so they knew it all perfectly...
On the previous forum - JP's - everything was widely commented on..
I see that you are trying to find the right campaign for yourself
I invite you to the Polish forum - it will be much easier and faster to communicate

Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
In the good old days, I didn't attach any importance to visibility information. Most units looked at one or two hexes - done.
Under OpenGeneral I have not changed my behavior. I don't care about red or black binoculars, they are hidden. FoW is always on.
As Sympatyc wrote, you know the enemy formation well after playing several campaigns and the visibility information fades into the background. If a move goes wrong, you can always restart and play differently (better).

Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
Initially I ignored it too, but it's so powerful - staying out of the enemy visibility makes you invisible (especially for artillery and planes).
I was just thinking about playing old custom campaigns in PG2 instead of OG (as OG instability frustrates me a bit), but today it will be probably not possible to prepare a custom PG2 installation with efiles, campaigns, icons, sound updates, etc. as old websites and links are dead.

Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
I assure you the OG engine is stable...
The problem is probably on the computer or software side - antivirus, other applications, or graphics card
Specify - what system, what card, what OG version
And if you can, write on the Polish forum --> it will be easier, more precise and faster --> I write in a language I have never learned (I don't know) through a translator and this is a second forum for me...
In addition, e-files are different - there are a lot of them here, and in our case there is basically one... and it is much easier to provide help or fix a mistake

Lol sympatyk, why you try to lure Szperacz away from this forum with every of your posts. He knows about the Polish forum but decided to become a member here. You should respect that.
And you are right! Staying out of the enemy's spotting range is very powerful. That's why i recon a lot myself (with planes) and always try to hide from the enemy.

Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
You will not be able to avoid attacks by long-range artillery if the enemy has it.
You can avoid air attacks by protecting vulnerable units with AD. This is part of any well-organized army.
You will only have really serious problems with visibility (in my experience) in CC 56, which I am currently playing again. Here the Western Allies have radar observation bunkers with a visibility of 25, so the AI can see (almost) the whole map and they can't hide. Your own units can see up to a maximum of 10 hexes during the campaign, but you first have to find the corresponding units in the e-file because they are only available under a support nation.

Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
Ultimately, I think the question of visibility is overrated, because the decisive factor is: What can the opponent, the AI, do with the information from the visibility of the human units?
If the AI is set to defensive, there will probably be no reaction. If the AI is set to aggressive, it will probably only attack if it has a chance of success. I can provide many examples from CC 56 ...

Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
That's certainly not what I had in mind - but the convenience of understanding and helping...
I see that Szperacz hesitates between PG2 and OG
So he has a choice - --> your e-file and campaigns - under your care, or PG2 in the form of CC under the care of Parabellum
Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
I didn't mention my efile at all! He can choose to play what he likes.
Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
We don't understand each other again
It seems (that's how I felt) that the man needs tech support to play both PG2 and OG...
Let him play whatever he wants - I don't impose anything...
... but the best help will come from people who know about it
So my suggestion - your e-file or CC...
That's why I would also prefer to write in Polish to avoid any misunderstandings.
Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
Guys I love you all and all the forums and all the efiles and campaigns And I also love girls and panzers.

Re: Question for Panzer General 2 veterans
I also don't have enemy spotted territory marked.
I do look how far they can see (especially radar or observation posts) and I try to guesstimate how far to stay away.
Having too many icons over the map just takes away from immersion.
Contrary to the original game, the various long sight range units are important to bombard.
With the new AI I also have to keep better flank security as the enemies can sometimes try to sneak up on my supply and exhibit other flanking behavior that did not really exist in the good old days.
