First off, I'd like to ask if there's a campaign that's recommended for inexperienced players, after the tutorial.
And secondly, although I am afraid it might be a question related to specific equipment files, I still feel like I must ask it: are all units costs ballanced around being cost-effective? Or in a campaign, the player should scout around multiple units and nations trying to find a better cost/benefit advantage rather than just buying what seems tactically necessary at a first glance?

Re: Recommended campaign and balance question
Just to the second question: Usually campaigns are played with one main nation. However, there may be individual scenarios within the campaign in which support nations are available. For example, if you are playing a German WW2 campaign, the designer may have built in the ability to buy from other allied nations such as Italy, Romania or Hungary. In most cases, the value for money will be the same or very similar. In any case, the player should compare extensively.

Re: Recommended campaign and balance question
Regarding your first question: ... in order to answer this, counter-questions automatically arise such as
1) which period do you want to play (WW 1, WW 2, post WW 2, other)?
2) Which side do you prefer: Allies or Axis?

Re: Recommended campaign and balance question
glad there are still new players doing old theme and game mechanics dating back to 1991, welcome. but great game with lots of user made stuff...
have fun.
they are usually various "Blitz-camps" with German equip, with any e-file but (as you said) as new player you might want to start with some low cost files, maybe (SSI, WK etc) but not needed as many newer files are better and more fun to play with... but maybe playing more - Parabellum or someone else they might give you even better or simplier recommend, don't even know what's outhere. but usually easiest are various longer German camps...CIAagent wrote:First off, I'd like to ask if there's a campaign that's recommended for inexperienced players, after the tutorial.
if I understood quest correct, yes it is best to "scout around" and secondly, it really depends also not only on e-file as you said but also campaign and its type.... in short, I remember some English (not to say British for fun)) camps where it was much better choice to have some as we called them cheaper "walking guns" (with 1 in organic move) than some more expensive and more powerful etc... there are also camps where some type of infantry is needed etc. etc. so i hope i gave proper answer regarding sense of your question...And secondly, although I am afraid it might be a question related to specific equipment files, I still feel like I must ask it: are all units costs ballanced around being cost-effective? Re: Recommended campaign and balance question
Thanks for the answers.
Regarding the counter-questions to my question about a beginner campaign, firstly, I don't particularly care for Axis or Allies, or even Entente or Central, or even NATO or Warsaw. What I am seeking is a campaign to act like an extended tutorial, introducing basic concepts and then going more complex over time. In this case, I suppose, say, in WW2, Soviets probably started WW2 a bit simpler than the Germans, so they should be, at least theoretically, more "noob-friendly" than a force that requires full integration and coordination of multiple armed branches to achieve a victory on a given scenario.
In the same vein, arguably, a WW1 campaign would be theoretically simpler than a WW2 campaign, having little aviation and armored combat. Further arguably, a Victorian era campaign would be even simpler, having no aviation and no armored combat and even less trench warfare.
All this is very general and vague, though, at least I presume so. So, to the essentials, I am looking for a campaign that starts comfortable for a bad/inexperienced player, but gradually gets more complex to make said player better.

Re: Recommended campaign and balance question
I only know just a few campaigns. But I would say that it can be helpful for unexperienced player to play with more prestige. And because of that maybe a campaign without a prestige cap can be more helpful.
Re: Recommended campaign and balance question
Good suggestion! I support it.
Re: Recommended campaign and balance question
In WW1 you may face other problems like slow transportation, low fuel or small variety of units. And for example, heavy cavalry and tanks are in the same class, so technically armored combat and heavy cavalry charges are "the same".NotCIAAgent wrote: ↑2022-05-10 16:28, Tuesday In the same vein, arguably, a WW1 campaign would be theoretically simpler than a WW2 campaign, having little aviation and armored combat. Generally i would suggest everyone to play a campaign that is interesting for you and as a newbie one can always play on a higher prestige level.
The Blitzkrieg/Blitz campaign in all its variations has been very popular since the beginning of PG2 and OG and if i had to suggest one campaign, it would be this one.
Re: Recommended campaign and balance question
It's a little bit pity that there's no longer tutorial campaign. Many campaigns designed in the past few years are extremely well designed, yet they can be a bit too troublesome for newcomers even at lower difficulty. I am one of the culprits, too, even though my campaigns are definitely not the harshest.
I tinker with an idea of a short "arcade" campaign, maybe Germans in North Africa or even better Finns, as the limited nature of at least the core managment would definitely make the decisions much easier. I'm afraid that new players can be overwhelmed by the analysis-paralysis, and the overall difficulty of the campaigns (most of them designed by experienced players who naturally tend to create hard and complex works) can be daunting.
I'd try a classic Blitz in a low-cost efile, crank up the prestige slider, and see if it works for me.
