sympatyk, i know we talked about this often already. But i still don't understand why you refuse to use png. There is a huge quality loss from map 788 to the new map. Do you see it? That's why png is much better because there will be no quality loss. Yes, png 256 has less colors but it is sharp.
When you work on the map, which file format do you use to save the work in process & store your finished map files for your archive?

If you are making a map ..
and the input material is 24-32 bit color
the program is also 32 bit color (the previous version of Gimp had no choice - the current one has the option to choose the color depth -> 8, 24, 32)
.. then the output was 24 bit color for the png file
So it was necessary to generate an 8 bit color png file
From this file, Luis obtained a jpg file
The quality of this jpg file and the weight was worse than the jpg file (my file)generated directly from 24 bit color (with the same conversion parameters)
It is different if you are using 8-bit material and working in an 8-bit program. Then it doesn't matter -> you can send the png file to Luis. After generating the jpg file (according to the procedure) you will get the same jpg file that Luis will generate. Of course, your png as a non-lossy format - especially when zoomed in, it will look sharper than jpg.
But it doesn't change anything -> players will get a jpg file (it will download automatically), and who is playing on the map enlarged by 300%?
Yes I know - people have such small monitors - they want to see the units .. .. -> but they have a jpg file - as a map

When drawing, you will use other 20 colors
Total 260 distinct colors
There are only 256 colors in an 8 bit file
So 4 colors will be removed (replaced)
You'll send this file to Luis
Luis converts it to jpg using -> JPEG, quality: 70, subsampling ON (2x2) (these are the - quality boundary parameters)
All players will get such a map ..

Then i copy and paste the whole map into a new true color file with 16,8 million colors and work with this.
Now, in a ideal world all resources, like cities, woods, airfields, rivers are only taken from png maps in the map making process.
When map is finished i save two files, png 256 colors and jpg 40% - 50% quality and send both files to Luis.
As far as i know, when uploaded at map finder the jpg will automatically compressed again, but that is out of our hands. The file may even get bigger then!
BUT for map making, input and output always has to be png imo.
I am sorry, i don't want to persuade you. It's just to understand each other better. Because we are the only active map makers in the world

Gilestiel created this map viewer when shp files were valid for PG2 and PEG files were S16 files, so when an indexed color palette was valid in the map images.
So it would have to be an image file - in the bmp / png format

Viewing several maps, when the average file size is 2.3MB, the next transfer is 10MB
So less map file weight -> many times less transfer between MF and your computer

All the other things... well, we can do nothing about it.

I mean, there is no end. It all depends on single people who run the different homepages as a hobby. If one day they all will have lost interest or have no time... only some nerds like us will know about the 1500 maps and all the stuff.

I remember he also wanted to upgrade the Suez Canal scenario (scenario 12) from G35 camapaign from map number 63 to new big map number 1058 like the other scenarios he updated in that campaign. Unfortunately, he did not have time to realize it, too.

I know about the ranking and read many posts in opengeneral.pl forum, but i don't think i have the time to play many campaigns to score points. I also have the habit to play until last turn for a BV, which also gives less points. But i also must say that i never pay any attention to campaign score. For me the score is irrelevant
But i can post my AAR and obervations here in this forum?

I also play until the last turn, I get all the flags (if possible) -> gives more exp and pp
I always use this rule at the beginning of the game, not necessarily later ...
This was also the case in G41 - from a certain point I finished the game ahead of time ..
Of course, choose the place of publication yourself
Playing in the ranking does not oblige me to the next games - it will probably be my only one this year ..

Not that I'm aware of.
There are some PeG conversions that are still WIP, but nothing really new.
Definitely the USA and the USSR / Russia.
After 2000, Israel and Japan are pretty good.
As far as I know, the next planned project for the modern campaign was an improved version of the Fulda campaign (G39 7 DAYS TO RHINE). It's the Cold War campaign in the early 1980s.
Guslik planned to expand it and completely convert it to large maps.
It would be my first choice.

There are so many campaigns for WW2, you'll never play them all
So they kept getting more and more difficult - only one way to victory
You had to have hints or reload every now and then

Maps as I wrote - they were made (Gustlik saw them) -> according to the need, more can be done. Anyway, the choice of maps belongs to the designer
As for the campaign - the current G39 will only be a narrative, not a direct transfer - that's how I imagine it ..

Yes, if a new campaign is to be made, it is better to kep G39 as it is and start a new campaign with a new number. Because with a change to big maps, most scenarios will change completely. So it is better to keep the story and build a second campaign, in my opinion.
Anyway, i will have to play G39 first, to get the feeling. But it is not a promise I just have a lot of interest in making a modern campaign in the future.

"Light Infantry" maybe "Lekka piechota" or in Poland they play this role Territorial Defense Forces - "Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej" - WOT
"Antitank Infantry" - rather not translatable.

But there is no such thing as an anti-tank infantry unit in the Polish army.

During the Second World War (September 1939) - infantry or cavalry (cavalry is infantry - riding horses) with Ur anti-tank rifles (some soldiers in the unit)

For the purposes of the OG game - you can name such a unit Ur35 and place it in the infantry class ...

I know about the tank rifle. Early in the efile i used the name "Piechota Ur" but later changed to englisch "AT Infantry" because the 1946 and 1950 AT infantry is not using anti tank rifles anymore. I also always have to choose whatever icons are available.
Every nation in my efile has AT infantry and light infantry because many nations used some kind of anti tank rifle for example.
It does not necessarily mean that units like this 100% exactly existed in history of the army of a country.
Light infantry can be even an ad hoc unit established in the field with light weapons and greater mobility than standart infantry.
That's why i call my efile a fantasy efile
I just wanted to ask for the correct translation of the names because all other names are in polish in the efile. And the polish names mostly come from the icon descriptions.
I mean, there are so many infantry icons with antitank rifles and light infantry. So i want to use them of course.

Just an idea Regarding the recon tanks, you guys could use the vehicle + flag icons. If i am correct you do not use them for HQ units in the efile, so you could use them for recon units to distinguish from the tank class.Trudno jednoznacznie powiedzieć. To kwestia do dopasowania i przetestowania w grze.
Jeszcze nie robiłem nic konkretnego w temacie. Planuje zająć się tym w weekend.
Jeśli miałbym szacować to pewnie 14x14px albo 16x16px.
(In my opinion these flagged units look good. I use all of them and more newly created ones for HQ units)

One thing i know, although it is not a plan for a new campaign, is that Gustlik had planned to replace the small Suez Canal map of campaign G35 DELTA FORCE with the new big map 1058. In EFILE_GUS_Zx there are another 3 campaign.
As I recall, Waldzios once uploaded a screen where there was a section of the Algeciras map showing the battles of the British against the Spanish. As I suspect it must be from some unreleased campaign.
It would be good to keep these unfinished campaigns in an archive somewhere.
