A problem with an in-game cursor

Post by Sike »

Hi all,

Been playing Open General for years, and now I'm stuck with quite a peculiar problem.

Since my videocard had broken, when I launch the game, the cursor starts to blink between an in-game one and default windows, which is quite irritating. Otherwise the game runs perfectly fine.

Maybe this has something to do with the usage of in-built an Intel HD3000 instead of a proper video card, and I won't be able to replace the broken one in the foreseeable future, regrettably.

So, is there a way to disable the in-game cursor or somehow resolve the problem via other means?

Would appreciate any advise, thank you.

Hi Toncel55, welcome to OpenGeneral forum :howdy

I'm sorry but I have no solution for that annoyance, and there is no way to play it in windowed mode, sorry.

Yeah no worries, its a great game anyway. Whats interesting is that the cursor problem stops when there is any kind of window opened, like scenario briefing, settings etc.

Thanks and take care

Hi all,

First of all, thanks to randowe for a welcome to the forum, it is heartwarming indeed :)

Then again, I am sorry for your inconveniance, Toncek55, as I feel the same pain when this cursor-blinking draws all the attention best given elswhere.

Last, but not the least, LuizGuzman, thank you for the reply, however, can You affirm that there is no known way to simply disable the custom cursor of the game, maybe via some OPENGUI .png shenanigans?

I wonder if when deploying, mounting in transport (ground, air or naval), disembarking etc., the blinking issue does happens too, or only happens with the normal cursor ?
If it is only the normal cursor what raises the issue, can try to remove (or much better rename) the file cur_arrow.cur located in OPENGUI folder, but maybe you won't see any cursor when playing normally. :dunno

If removing that cursor you can play with the win cursor, that's the solution, if that doesn't fix the issue you can rename rename it again.

Hi there,

This solution worked for me on Windows 11:

I ) Go to your Windows cursor settings
II ) Tick the 'Display pointer Trails' (you can use the lowest setting)

The game should pick up on the trail and display the ingame cursor correctly.
I hope this works for you too. :ihope
