Fictional Campaigns Thread
Since we were talking about fictional campaigns in the other thread i though i open this one tonight. The odds are high that none of the campaigns will ever be made, but we can still talk about them I'll start with this:
For quite some time now i have a bunch of campaigns in mind, which all are based on the book The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. D i c k. Long story short, Germany and Japan (and Italy to some extent) conqered the whole world and established colonial empires and puppet states.
Here are some campaign ideas:
- Germany invades the east coast of the USA
- Japan invades Australia, the west coast of the USA, Central and South America
- Germany fights Japan in North America and then in East Asia/Australia
- A uprising in the Rocky Mountains leads to a large revolt and the new USA fights for freedom
Here is the map from wikipedia:

Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
I played this campaign successfully with the germans in Hearts of Iron III. Was fun.
Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
I got this one in mind:
PLACE: Fictional small Carribean island with a populace of roughly 50-60 thousands.
LEADER: Former army colonel, now president-for-life
ANTAGONISTS: Frente de Liberación Popular, drug cartel, communist guerilla, USSR, oil company hirelings, USA
TIME: late 1960's to early 2000's
Never done anything about that.

Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
Thanks for the topic. Here are my ideas for campaigns.
The universe where Reich won the Second World War
A bit modeled on the world of Hearts of Iron IV mod called The New Order, here you can get to know a bit of this world: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/ ... ysOfEurope,
And this is how the TNO world look in 1962:
The idea is to present the two campaigns from the perspective of both sides about the West-Russian War, an attempt by the post-Soviet forces to regain the territory of the Reichskommissariat Moskowien in the 1950s. At the same time, the Wehrmacht will fight the Waffen-SS because Himmler wants to seize power over the Third Reich through a coup d'état.
A universe where the power and states is like in the Middle Ages, but with the technology of the Second World War.
Campaign of Barbarossa - the beginning will start with a fight to support the imperial power, then an expedition and fight with rebels from the Lombardy League, then a conflict with Heinrich der Löwe and a trip to Poland, and finally the Crusade to Jerusalem
Mongolian Campaign (on Soviet equipment) - first uniting the Mongolian and Siberian lands, then an expedition to China, then Persia, then an expedition to Ruthenia, and finally the invasion of Europe
The Teutonic Campaign - the Baltic War against Sweden, then an attempt to take control of Novgorod, a short episode in the Crusade, at the end of the war with Poland, the final tank battle at Grunwald
Other alternative campaigns.
The Italian Campaign - building a new Roman Empire, and finally the final battle with the Third Reich
Cold War in the Atlantic - US naval campaign against Great Britain, mainly involving the capture of Bermuda and Greenland along with several naval clashes and the drowning of convoys
German Campaign in Africa after WW2 - against the Americans, something like an alternative Vietnam, the last mission would end with the evacuation of Africa through the Gibraltar Dam while resisting against American invasion of the area
---- ---- ---- ----
The idea of the American uprising is the most interesting .

The Man in the High Castle, the book is interesting, although the series was a bit disappointing in the later seasons.randowe wrote:For quite some time now i have a bunch of campaigns in mind, which all are based on the book The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. deck. Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
I would find it funny to converte a WW1 campaign into a WW2 campaign. You still have the WW1 maps and battles, but you have the newer equipment, and the best british tank is something like a Firefly. I don`t know if this campaign would be playable, but I find the idea funny. Or to play WW2, but eg Germans waited with the attack until 1943 and have the better equipment to invade russia. No real fictional campaign but the equipment for the battles would change.
Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
I never played Hearts of Iron
Generally i find the ideas interesting which you guys mentioned, when you play a historic, like medieval, campaign with WW2 equipment.
I would add the American War of Independence or the American Civil War to the list.
Or Germay trying to get back the lost colonies in Africa in the 1940s.

There is a short campaign like this in the LXF efile.
Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
"Philip K. Deck" like that, nice way to avoid vulgarity
most seriously, only fiction i'm interested in is something I mentioned to you in your thread much before i.e. world wars and German thematics in fantastical steampunk (and similar art styles) settings, would be great efile and campaigns. So Germans would look like that on poster I made, for example. Walking machines, unusual tanks and all sort of technology. Surprised that solid turn based game was never made in such manner, great potential. but regarding OG we know well it is not gonna happen and I'm not icon maker, made only few but this needs dedication i don't have, so mentioned as fun moment... on poster added "Reich girl" for fun (they can send them to Africa, soldiers not girls i mean....)
that's it, personal fantasy interest, like the settings though more fantasy than fictional thing... since you mentioned and being from only (so far) country in Europe ever in conflict (unparalel and small, but only) with NATO and having all sorts of historical events (Germans were in conflict with NATO before it was made)) - of course i had various ideas through years of making some fictional campaigns and addons with own national empire Had various premisses and themes incorporated - based on facts that one "mad scientist" was our man (Tesla) and we had few other capable minds ; - how suddenly they all live in enlarged Serb kingdom and make some super weapons and military enlargement is planned... it happens during decades starting from late XIX c. Then there are various units, regular army, Chetniks with special command and armament department, bit of misticism after (in 1920s) Dušan's body is found and it creates some field of armor and in Timur's grave special example of legendary "black armor" is found, impenetrable and kept because it was only soldiers who ever hurt his troops, Scythish legacies etc. etc. it is war through decades, enlargement and arms race constant, country getting bigger and final frontier Tokio. you got idea, though sounds funny, but special weapons included. I will surely not make such campaign, made some mods for other games on thematics, but anyone is free to work on my idea on solid turn based system (as i say to younger generations, be it fantasy, myth, medieval or modern history, you have enough material and ideas to make game, film or book you just lack mental initiative and courage and knowledge... and IQ))
have fun whatever you make, i added my post more for colorfulness and fun, but seriously in high fiction settings. Not realistic, both of them and safe to say never gonna happen. As said you are prime active OG moder in this time so i shared it... as Duke Falcon's works showed OG has a lot of space for various mods, fiction, fantasy or alternate history, but i'm not on that level and honestly can make just few things per years. Trully and without joke fun to those who will potentially make some great powers fictional camps - regarding post steampunk is fun as for my second paragraph story, nice thinking isn't it and would be refreshing game (but i prefer my Warhammer for tough looking mf-ers) have fun Randowe, didn't joke with you again and worked outside of OG on such subjects for fun... as non-historical fiction unlike your question which was about historical fiction. most important is that there will still be players for you around, hope.

Although I never played it, in fact I never even knew about it until now. My inspiration were the 80's and 90's B movies.
Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
Wanted to upload the new efile version to dropbox, but my internet is so slow again, upload failed and i was told to connect to the internet Will try again late night tonight
Anyway, i was speaking about fictional campaigns and there are actually some ideas that are more likely to become a OG campaign than others. Germany versus Japan has to be dismissed because there are no big maps, or not enough, of North America and Asia. In the future i will mostly rely on the collection of 3150x3000 pixel classic style maps and at the moment we have 59 of these with some more under construction. At the moment i doubt we will ever get more than 70. And i am not going back to small maps; these times are gone
So there will be two campaigns that are more likely to get made and i hope in 5 years we will have both of them:
- USSR wins against Germany and then goes on to fight capitalism and conqueres Germany, Western Europe, the UK and then attacks the US East coast.
- UK evacuates Dunkirk, repells Sealion 1940, recaptures Western Europe and Germany and then fights the USSR on Eastern Europe, Ukraine and Russia territroy.
I think one of the most interesting aspects of such campaigns in OG is the fact that you can play equipment versus equipment in combinations that will never happen in historical campaigns.
Some things Ale mentioned are very interesting, and my Efile is named ATOMIC because i had a Mad-Max-Zombie-Post-Nuclear-War-Apocalyptic-Campaign in mind at the beginning, but it will never be possible because of the lack of icons. Same goes for steampunk et al. Imagine wooden steam-powered tanks! That would be cool

Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
Also, speaking of fictional campaigns... I got nothing but fictional campaigns.
I need to finish the textimg for "Achtung Tiger!" and then I'm ready to unleash the big cats!
Hopefully I'll be finished gefore Christmas.
I know that this is not exactly THE fictional campaign, but it's on par with original Blitzkrieg, so I think that it may count.

Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
Yeah, maybe the thread title is wrong because it means the campaigns are fictional = non existent
Maybe someting like alternate history campaigns would be more fitting but at the end only a native english speaker can help us, but i guess it doesn't matter and we can talk about everything

Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
Yep, I guess there's a real difference between fictional campaign (like Blitz) that still follows the course of history, and an alternative history campaign that makes its... well, its own course of history, e.g. some of the more "outrageous" campaigns from the sci-fi/post-apo efiles.
It still makes me a bit sad that we've never finished the collaborative campaign for which I made the Mars map, but the world doesn't end tomorrow, so maybe...
Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
It looks like our criminal goverment forces a total lockdown, black out, and coming out on our nation, so maybe I'll have a LOT of spare time to finish the Achtung Tiger!
Frankly, I'd rather be NOT governed by total but at least the will be unleashed.

Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
Just came across Operation Unthinkable, a hypothetical attack of the western allies on Soviet troops in Germany on 1st July 1945. There would also be Polish and even German forces fighting with the western allies.
That would be a good starting point for a campaign. The attack would have been taken place in the Dresden area, but i would use the big Harz map, then Berlin.
But since i want to use big classic style maps only there is a hugh gap from Berlin to the east and the next usable maps would be Narva and Novgorod in the northeast or Jassy/Iasi and Odessa in the southeast
Have to think some more years about this campaign

Re: Fictional Campaigns Thread
I actually started working on such a campaign a few years ago. It was actually the converted UK campaign from SSI, which I extended by using the Soviets v Allies scenario in Dessau from SSI and moved from there. I do not remember how far I went after that, I think I made 3-4 scenarios more. My idea was a fight along the Baltic, as Western Allies had a huge fleet by this time and it would have been easier to support an advance instead of going through Central and SE Europe.randowe wrote: ↑2021-11-28 23:29, Sunday Just came across Operation Unthinkable, a hypothetical attack of the western allies on Soviet troops in Germany on 1st July 1945. I was thinking on only making 8 scenarios at most and then after a crushing defeat against Soviets in Warsaw to open peace negotiations due to the threat of an atomic bomb dropped on USSR...
Likely all my design activities are over at this point, until at least July next year, when I move in a new house and I get the chance to unpack my PC.
However, alternate history campaigns are my favourites. You always know how a historical scenario is supposed to end, you never know how an ahistorical one plays out in the end. Over time, I made several campaigns like that. GWC reinvented, my own superblitz, which is mostly finished, but untested, American War for WW1 (loosely based on the Southern Victory novels of Harry Turtledove) and American Union campaign (loosely based on Kaiserreich mod from Hearts of Iron II, III and Darkest Hour).
