I like this take on the old SSI battle and it was an enjoyable way to start the cam. The flank attack from the west was a nice touch and made a mess of my Arty column that was heading south Anyway lots of fun, a leader and enough cash to do some upgrades after the battle.

A fun little battle where my units picked up some good exp fighting the entrenched enemy units. I picked my way through the defensive line using mainly my Pioneer unit backed up by 5 and later 6 artys.
I had just enough cash after the battle to repair all my units except 1

I feel that Herr Doctor has tweaked this scenario a bit as I didn't find it as confusing and frustrating as in the original version, good job Jurgen it was fun to play
I used the cash to complete repairs to my core units. A little Flak seems to have appeared in my core, I saw no mention of it but the fact it's named already suggests it's mine to keep
I also scored a Stug proto which I'm hoping will come in handy in the upcoming battle where there are a few tanks if memory serves me correctly.

Another fun little battle I found the first 6 MSUs easily enough then sent the planes out to find the last 2 which were holding a couple of small towns further west. I left 4 planes there to take turns reducing them until destroyed while I cleared the central area and the last MSU for a last turn BV

- No Luftwaffe units have orders to provide air support to your troops, but fighter units supporting air landings around The Hague and Rotterdam might come to your assistence as they pass through the area.
II/JG27 [Jafue3] reinforces in turn 7 and disbands in turn 10. Not much, but they should have been there.
IV(St.)/LG1 [VII] reinforces in turn 11, but by that time, you had cracked the Grebbelinie so you probably never saw them.
I am very happy that you have started this CC (with the much newer version of the campaign). I tried to incorporate the many many recommendations provided by Jan in this version. Can't get a better playtester then him. The end of the campaign has received a completely new victorious path with a storyline developed by Adler. Can't go much better there when it comes to realistic what-if scenarios. Get a BV or V in the Ardennes to open up this path. Good luck and much fun!

Always fun to play a well known map from a different perspective I sent a small Kampfgruppe to the west to take the airfield which turned out to be a harder battle than expected so the Stug was diverted there to assist the Arty and Recon and eventually 2 bombers were sent up there as well. The Pioneers had to go it alone after the Stug departed and spent their time in the center-left of the map while the main Kampfgruppe of 2 Infs, 2 Artys and 2 Flaks headed due south ignored what they could while they made their way to the 2 southern VHs which they took for a BV -1. The little Flaks are great for cleaning up weakened enemies or scooting around to the rear to attack Artys.
Thankfully the units auti repaired so I was able to upgrade the last Infantry and give them better trucks.

After cracking the front line with my core units I rushed the Recon and a Flak straight north where they crossed the river and began the task of taking the north-west VH, meanwhile the rest of the core moved to the center of the map and took the VH there along with some $$. The aux army had a tough task crossing the river but eventually made it with a number of losses. Once over I had to return a small group to the south where my VH was under attack while the rest moved north-east and along with the core Artys when they arrived, they took the final hex for a last turn BV

I sent my core to the east VH and all the aux to the west VH. A combination of the recon showing light defences in the east and horrific losses in the west changed my plan so I sen 1/2 my core to the west VH and they worked their way up to it while the aux units took the brunt of the damage. Just couldn't dislodge the bloody defender in the west so missed a last turn BV so had to settle for the V
At HQ I upgraded the little AT to Stug and bought another Recon.

My first move was to send all the planes up to my deploy zone so they could help with a quick breakout. I then moved in a line straight towards the VH, clearing a path and rushing units through as I went. Once my Artys were lined up over the river from Belgrade I brought back in the planes for spotting and began the process of clearing the city, ADs first followed by Artys then Infantry. Meanwhile I snuck a Recon around to the west and brought him into the city from the south-west so he could snatch the VH as soon as he was able for a BV-1

After a good study of the map I decided on mass river crossings. My core headed north-east towards the lower VH, stopping to engage some Russians on my side of the river and continuing on towards the VH once they were dealt with. After spotting some Russian Paras I returned the new proto AD and less experienced Stug to my VH to hold it but for some reason they never attacked but instead followed the direction of my advance attacking aux units On turn 2 my planes had scouted the defences on the opposite river bank and my attack plan changed- I decided to force a crossing directly west of the lower VH using the new Bridging ability of the Krad Infantry and split the Kampfgruppe with 1/2 attacking each VH once across the river. This attack was quickly successful so I then pushed over the river in multiple spot with aux units who I used to soak up the enemy ammo and stop the Russians from sending reinforcements to the VHs. The plan worked perfectly and we scored a last turn BV

I used to best units of my core to quickly bully my way to Yelnya which I took without too much trouble then I sent 2 Artys, 2 Stugs a Recon and 2 Infs south to hold off the Russian attack. The aux army was divided into 3 groups and they crossed the river and headed as fast as possible to the northern VH along with all the planes. By the time the Infs arrived at the final VH I had 5 Artys lined up and all the planes. I pounded the hell out of the area ready to take next turn or the one after, only for a group of Russians to attack my VH which was defended by an AT gun and an Inf. Both of these were killed and with the VH open the enemy was unable to take it so next turn I used everything I had within range to whittle away at the VH until I managed to sneak a Recon in for the BV

I basically took 4 main routes to the south pausing to clear objectives and create bridgeheads etc. Russian cavalry attacked my starting VH but luckily the defender had enough time beforehand to dig in and was able to hold on while a couple of planes rushed to help which ten allowed him to hold on while the final 2 southern VHs were taken for a BV-2

I deployed my Artys right at the front backed up by my fast attack units (Flaks, Krad Inf etc) as I was hoping the Monsieur Doctor hadn't changed a lot with this scen and I kinda remembered how it played out. Well my fast breakthrough was a fantastic success but it also had my army suddenly smack bang in the middle of a Russian reinforcement spawn I had to quickly circle the wagons around my Artys and hold off the Ruskis while the rest of the core caught up and made a relieving attack, realistic as all hell really anyway after averting disaster we managed a last turn BV and scored a Swimwagon Inf for our troubles plus at HQ a new Arty was added to the core for the expected attack on Moscow.

Wow this really was an exercise by Dhr Dokter in just how many enemy Artys can be successfully installed on an OG map
My main plan, after discovering the essential makeup of the defensive front line, was to breakthrough with my core fast units as quickly as possible and try and run amok behind the Russian lines. I had deployed my best Artys and the Krad Inf so by turn 3 I had opened a small corridor in front of the Supply Hex which I streamed my mobile units through and directly north where they worked their way to the top of the map taking out the enemy guns on the way, sadly this plan also required the sacrifice of many Aux units to reduce the ammo of the defenders so I could over run them. Meanwhile a strong force moved along the bottom of the map, taking the center-south VH and emerging from the forest just below the south-east VH and straight into a Ruski reinforcement wave. A major battle resulted then we were finally able to head north and take the lightly defended VHs for a last turn BV

I started with a 3 Kampfgruppe approach with 3 lines of advance towards all the VHs. When 2 reinforcement waves appeared north and south, I rejoined my core, minus a couple of units which I attached to the aux groups. We headed due east until running into a large enemy formation in the middle of the map. I brought up every available Arty and placed them in a north-south line with stronger units in front and quick mop up units behind and hunkered down. After 3 turns of absorbing the Russians smashing themselves against the line, I moved forward again leapfrogging the Artys so there were always at least 1/2 that could provide covering fire. The northern aux group did ok advancing along the river until a KV2 rocked up and made a mess of them. Thankfully the 3rd aux wave that arrived in the middle was nearby trying to catch up to my core so I diverted them north and they were eventually able to kill the KV then cross the river and head north to the VH. In the south the going was slow but steady and was helped when I sent the 2 recons down to take out the Artys while the core was bogged down around the final VH. Once the south was secure I returned the core units to the central fight and we snatched the BV on the last turn.

My main problem in missing the BV was getting bogged down in the middle of the map with those nasty 15sp tanks, I should have bypassed them and let the Aux troops clean them up and I might have scored the BV. Oh well onward and upward.
I doubt I will have the cash to fully repair my army so after reading the brief I will concentrate on getting my defensive unit back to full strength and hope for the best.

I brought up my core and created a defensive wall in front of the center VHs while the aux units withdrew from the front back towards the VHs to defend. I setup a defensive line halfway up the map running in a sw-ne direction and awaited the Russian sttack. When it cam it was kind of piecemeal so I had time on my own turn to resupply and wait for the next hit. North survived no problem with only a few single unit attacks, West manned by an experienced core Inf held off the Russian paras easily, South was able to use the river to stay alive and the 2 centrals sat behind the core defensive screen. I deployed my 3 best artys and Super Move Recon in the front and the rest here and there across the deploy area. The front 4 units sped south as fast as they could, setup the guns and started to pound the VH while in the west I moved a few units about to create a defensive screen and rushed core units down to attack the Russians from the rear. Quite a number of units from the Russian VH moved west away from the city which helped me a lot. Over a few turns I was able to clear the northern area above the VH while the enemy was distracted and on the final turn last move I sneaked the Super Move Recon into the cleared VH for the BV

I deployed my best Arty and Pioneer Inf as well as 2 Flaks that never made it to the battle. The Pioneer moved up and took out a coastal battery only. The Arty was able to assist the port defenders and reduce the VH defender so it could be convinced to move out and allow it's capture for a last turn BV

The toughest part of this battle was breaking through the initial Russian front line and sadly many aux units paid the ultimate sacrifice With my core I was more cautious and took my time with the breakthrough. Once behind enemy lines it was a much easier task to move around, locate enemy tanks and swarm destroy them.

I was my turn to dig in and face the onslaught. In the core zone I put the armour first backed by the Artys and Flak, in the aux zone I brought up all ranged units from the rear and formed a line between the VH over the river and the south-west VH. The VH over the river was basically left to it's own devices while I set my traps and waited, hoping that eventually I could relieve them or recapture the hex if lost. They fought grimly but on the 2nd to last turn the VH fell and I was unable to recapture it so had to settle for the V

My main plan was to pull back from the 2 river VH in the south-east whilst the core units moved up to take positions where they could launch attacks to regain them. The northern VH I defended with what I had there as well as sending 3 Stukas up to help reduce the Artys and a core Inf, Tank, SPAT and Recon. In the center 4 deploy hexes I put my Sup Man Recon and 3 best Artys and moved them forward to just behind the VH where they joined the aux arty and were able to hold off the attackers. Once everything was in position and with 2 turns to go I launched my attacks and quickly retook the south-east VHs, cleared a path to the center VH and continued to hold the north with what was left. On the last turn I sped the Super Man Recon through and snatched the VH from under the Russian noses for the BV

I setup an aux defensive wall south of the river which gave me time to get my core into place so that when the Russians reached the VHs I was about ready to try and hold them off. Luck was on my side with what seemed like endless Rugged Defs which allowed my Tanks to speed out, kill a weakened unit and return to within defensive range of my Artys. Once the Russian attacks seemed to be weakening I pushed out and retook the north-east VH and killed the force trying to take the centre VHs

I decided on the eastern route and leapfrogged my units taking out the barricades as I went. The final river crossing had a 15sp barricade that held me up and almost lost me the BV until I returned the 2 Recons and they reduced it enough for the Pioneer to kill, which allowed my Krad to refuel then on the last turn they all rushed to the escape hex for the BV. For some reason the Partisans surrounded 2 VHs but didn't attack, they did however take the north-east VH.

My plan was to create a defensive line in roughly a north-west to south-east line with the river and other feature as a buffer. I left the frontline aux units where they were and to bring up my core, space them along the river crossings and road junctions etc, back them with Artys and ADs and dig to await the onslaught then eventually hit out and take the enemy VHs. The US came, wave after wave of Tanks and Infs, so many Artys pounding away it was a friggin nightmare. The aux frontline did their job with honor and reduced the US attackers enough that the few that slipped through early were easy kills. Eventually the aux frontline was completely gone and the Americans started appearing within range of the core defensive line. I was helped by the entrenchments, cross Arty fire and rugged defs but those blasted long range Artys in the center were a thorn in my side and annoyed me to the point I finally sent out an Aux SPAT and one of my core Panthers to take care of them, the SPAT died but the Panther returned to my lines in glory. The BV passed and I was still pinned down, finally I was able to strike out and try for the V but the defence at the north-east VH too strong so I had to setup shop and pound with Artys while a Recon raced unseen up the east side of the map to snatch the VH for a 2nd to last turn TV anyway no core losses is a BV so onward, can't say the same for the poor Aux units, I think there was only the ADs left by the end

I made slow but solid progress in working my way through the massed US units on the way to the VH and with my units surrounding the city, Artys setup to start the bombardment and my Tanks roaming killing stragglers a US Inf appeared out of the trees and snatched my starting VH so I had to send a fast force back to retake it and in the meantime the BV and V slipped by anyway my fault entirely

I think I must have without knowing it deployed perfectly as I got a BV on turn 4 I put the Tanks and best Arty in the south, the other Artys within range of the VH on the hill with the Recons nearby and the ATs at the river crossing with the others spread around. The south fell really quickly with the Tanks taking care of the small group around the VH then crossing and taking the Artys over the river then it was defend defend. The center VH I took with 3 Stugs and was easy enough once they killed the Tank nearby. The north VH on the river was taken with Aux units units committing the MSUs to the battle and losing 2 of them which made the task a bit more urgent. The VH on the hill was last and was cleared with Artys then snatched with the Super Man Recon just as my starting VH guardded by a 2sp Inf was threatened by US troops.

I threw everything at the Yanks and managed the BV with a LOT of lost sp, thankfully there was auto repair aftewards
My core followed a basically south-west to north-east route with single units or small groups breaking off here and there to assist the aux units in capturing VHs. I managed a BV-3 when my Super Man Recon was able to sneak across the eastern river and snatch the last VH just as a bunch of US reinforcements turned up in the north and threatened my column of Artys in their transports.

Well it's been quite a while since I started this battle so I can only guess what my early strategy was but it looked like I was expecting an attack from the bottom and/or the right side of the map as I had setup a long SW-NE defensive line with mostly aux units backed by artillery. My core Artys and a group of armour looked to be on their way to the main city so I continued them on and setup the Artys around the west side of the city and kept the armour in reserve. The recon in that group had to rush west towards the ships after a town fell into enemy hands there and with help of the ships, once they had taken out the subs, they eventually retook it and the recon hung about just in case of another attack.
The attack I must have been expecting did come to the south-east end of my defensive line but with a bit of sliding south and then to the north to cope with an attack there, I held the line well enough. I was too cautious in the north-east corner of the map and should have moved out earlier but instead waited for the arrival of the reinforcement battlegroup and with some bad luck I missed the BV by 2 turns

Well this was a far quicker battle I sent my Artys to the north around and down while the rest of the core headed straight across the map towards to
he VH. My defenders had enough time to dig in a couple of levels before the main Russian attacks started so were able to hold out just long enough for my relief force to arrive and start picking them off. It was a close thing with only the defending Inf and a single AT left before the tide turned and I killed the last required unit for the BV.
At HQ I put my truck-bourne units into 1/2 tracks finally

Holy crap what a monster of a battle row after row after row of artys ground my troops into the dirt I sent most of the aux troops to hold the southern flank after it became clear there was going to be one or more counter attacks from there, meanwhile my core ground it's way onward. The aux units in the main Budapest held their own but were eventually defeated but for some reason the Russians didn't take them even when empty running low on turns and strength I was on the outskirts when I took the Russian VH and the battle ended!!

I sold the Maus proto and used the cash to over strengthen my tanks, artys and flaks.
I pussied out right from the get go and planned for the TV My Artys were sent to the front and helped to hold the Russians at the river for a good many turns until the heat go too much and they withdrew to prepared positions within my core. The core was arranged in a north-south line 1 hex in front of the 2 central VHs, tanks and ATs at the front, Infantry the next row behind, a row vacant for the Artys to withdraw into behind them and lastly Flaks and ADs in the last row with the Fighters over the Artys. The aux army sacrificed themselves valiantly in holding the tide at the river for many turns but once my artys had withdrawn it wasn't long until they were over-run. Two turns of only a couple of weak attacks on my core defensive line was soon followed by wave after wave of everything the enemy could throw at me but with the cross fire of the artys from the rear they died one after another, my main problem was maintaining supply so did little on my own turn except re-supplying. The Russian planes seemed to think that attacking my Flaks was a good idea and they all died The line held right up until the final turn where I lost a couple of core units so I went all kamikaze and sent them all out to make havoc amongst the weakened Russians. The northern VH was cleared but the enemy had no unit within range to capture it so the battle ended with the TV.
So ends this epic campaign, nice job Doc I had a lot of fun
