You should try units from other nations, my favorite units are the Slovakian range 7 ATY, the Hungarian Nimrod Flak (range 2 is really good) and the Finland elite units (mountain with great movement and para units with exploit success). Also i believe the Italian ships are VFM.

If Recon attachment makes any unit to move phased (for the player), would be a big mistake IMHO. Then the player can have all CS units or healer units with phased movement.
