Re: Open General on Linux with Wine
I have finally managed to get Open General working with full video support on Debian 12. I have updated the instructions in the OP.

Re: Open General on Linux with Wine
UPDATE: I have yet to get video playback working properly under Debian bookworm, which is now full wayland. I have also added a note to the OP, I have discovered two packages that improve the running of just about any application under wine. So much so that I'm surprised it took me so long to find ...

Re: Bug Report
I'm going to mark this as closed. It appears that the behaviour I described was accurate, but it wasn't an issue with Open General. It was a problem with wine. I have found some packages which are wine preloaders (wine32-preloader, wine64-preloader). What they do is reserve the memory address ranges...

Re: Bug Report
I think I understand a little bit of what is going on with this, at least in a general way. What appears to be happening is that the Open General executable is trying to write what is probably an audio file, or files, to a specific memory location or locations, but is unable to. When it is unable to...

The solution for me was to turn weather animations off in the user interface settings. This is not meant to be a harsh criticism, so I'm going to say what I hope I have said before. I love Open General. It is my favourite version of, perhaps, my favourite computer game of all time. I think what Lui...

Re: Bug Report
This has been across several versions of wine, and as you see, others are experiencing the issues on Windows. I don't think it's a Linux specific issue. My memory is hazy, but I might have also experienced this when I was running Windows. I think this issue has been with OG since just about day one....

I'm posting this here because I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced something similar. Re: Total Unit Strength and Experience for Each Side in Open Suite
I use a lot of experience ranges for units, so if you want to total the experience, you would need to take the average of the experience range. So 100 - 200 the experience value for that unit would be 150. Still do not understand this :huh What do you want to sum if the unit has an experience level...

Re: Total Unit Strength and Experience for Each Side in Open Suite
It is probably not too much work if result is output to a .csv file with just 5 rows (one header + 1 row/player) and sums in columns. So you can load in Excel to further process Then, columns would be totals (per player) for: sp exp bars sa ha aa na gd ad cd rdm attach1 (total units having it) .. a...

Re: Total Unit Strength and Experience for Each Side in Open Suite
No question that it wouldn't be any kind of magic bullet for scenario design, and all of the scenarios in the original SSI Blitz campaign were designed to be both part of the campaign and as standalone scenarios. I think it would be useful for both those contexts. No question as well that location a...

Total Unit Strength and Experience for Each Side in Open Suite
Something that might be a useful tool in Open Suite for scenario design is a tool which totals up all the experience and all the strength points for each side/player. I don't think it would be too difficult to code, just a matter of iterating through all the units and totalling the numbers, multipli...

Open General is 32 bit is it not? If it is, then yes, you need those 32 bit packages. If it isn't, then you don't. I just assumed it was because most games of this vintage are. But seeing as Luis is compiling it, it's entirely possible it isn't... :) And yes, 1GB seems like a lot until you realize y...

Liberator Special
Is it time to take the liberator leader special to the woodshed? It has always been the most powerful leader special available, so much so that many people playing Open General or PG2 will either reload when they get that special or edit it out of the game save. Simply reducing the prestige increase...

Re: playtest: lvjtn tries oak blitzkrieg 3.02 @75 - abandoned
What I like about the idea of adding a liberator leader to the recon unit is it evens out the playing experience across replays. Getting a liberator leader on a unit like a recon unit really changes the way the whole campaign plays. So if you just add one at the beginning of the campaign, it makes i...

Re: playtest: lvjtn tries oak blitzkrieg 3.02 @75 - abandoned
I think that German campaigns have the potential for 3 ugly scenarios: - Windsor/Invasion England '40 - Crete - Malta Part of what made that original SSI Blitzkrieg special was that, way back when, it seemed like each person had a scenario or two that would ball them up. But there are a few that mo...

Re: playtest: lvjtn tries oak blitzkrieg 3.02 @75 - abandoned
A lot of effort was put into balancing the prestige available, and the caps, in this campaign. I suspect it is very sensitive to changes in prestige levels. You should notice a pretty huge difference between 100/100 and 75/100 in terms of overall difficulty. If you want to mess around with prestige ...

Re: playtest: lvjtn tries oak blitzkrieg 3.02 @75 - abandoned
There is one note I'd like to make. Ivjtn suggested that prestige be increased by 20%. This campaign was designed and play tested at 100/100, and that is in the readme. Ivjtn play tested this at 75/100. Raising that to 100/100 would cover the 20% increase and be at the settings the campaign is desig...

I very much appreciate the playtest. I realize I'm a little slow responding here, but I don't tend to follow the forums much. I will try to go through them in detail. It appears that the audio in the intro video to Open General is not working. Not sure why that doesn't work, it is working in the campaign videos.
